Hey guys! My mother is a Reiki Master and soon she's going to be attuning me to it. Reiki is a type of energy healing and I've decided to learn it as opposed to other arts because it really does the same thing as all other energy healing does; it heals. If I start practicing it, then that means 3/4 people in the house will have the ability (my older brother, while being less skeptical than he was a few years ago, isn't very open to it).
I know that I have major potential for being a healer, and I've used energy to do some small healing before, but I just want to get attuned and start on Reiki I, and then just keep learning. So are there any other Reiki practitioners or other energy healers here that I could talk to? How did you get into the art?

I was certified a "Reiki Master" almost three years ago, but I don't practice very much. So for that reason I don't consider myself a "master" in any way but arbitrary title. I think "master" is a title that other people bestow on you.
But that's beside the point. I've done all the attuning, learning the symbols, etc. I got into it on a whim. I just had an interest, enrolled in a course, and then before I knew it I was proficient at it. I've had some successes as far as using Reiki for healing as well, but as I've said, I don't use it very often.

I have done a little healing, though not through reiki. While I understand a lot of people have success with it, I can't think about it too long without the Reiki Master from the OMGs! comic popping into my head.

I've been practicing Reiki for about a year now; I'm a level 2 practitioner (despite this, I haven't really tried distance healing, mostly as a result of having no one who wants or needs any at a distance). I had different Masters for each level, which I felt was beneficial because it offered a bit of variety in the teachings and experience. My first attunement/class was a group setting, and took about two weeks (the lessons and attunements were split into two seperate meetings). The second level was more private, and was over the course of only one day.
The person I treat most commonly is myself; as many practitioners do, I treat myself once a day with reiki, using the creed as a sort of preamble. I have found that this can be wonderfully beneficial, not only for easing stress and pain, but also for detecting and unknotting bad energy. (I've even found that, while I'm applying Reiki to my stomach area, I can get a good sense of how my intestines are doing--I have a digestive disorder, so it's a big help to get a sort of "advanced warning" that I can follow up on with a good dose of healing.)
I'm also the type to reiki food during preperation or serving; I do this a lot for myself, but I've also applied Reiki to baked goods I give as presents to people, for that added touch of happiness.

I practice a form of it, but its kind of primitive compared to some of the techniques out there. I haven’t really invested much time or thought into it as my current techniques work fine for me. Perhaps I'll look more into it...

I am hoping to get my first reiki attunements this fall, actually. I am taking a class, and although it's not a requirement, it's being offered as a side unit on the weekend I suppose coming up (no date nailed down). I've attempted some personal energy work to good effect I suppose, although it was really just like a cleansing sort of thing (white body, scrub out mentally the icky parts, that sort of thing). I'm excited, and a little nervous. Reiki attunement is permanent, and I want to learn a little more about it before I take the plunge, so to speak. So maybe soon I can join in discussion (lol)!

What versions of the reiki prayers/affirmations does everyone here use? I use the traditional Usui 'way to happiness' version:
"Just for today do not anger Do not worry And be filled with graditude Devote yourself to your work And be kind to people Every morning and evening join your hands in prayer Chant these words with your mouth And pray these words to your heart"
Does anyone else have shorter ones they use througout the day, or an entirely new version of the concept?

I always used a shorter version, but it's been so long since I've been on that path that I don't remember it.

I have a lot of friends that are reiki-healers. Myself not included. razz I don't feel that reiki is the right kind of healing for me, but since a long time ago I practice intuitive healing and I work alot with the spiritworld when I do my healing. I've never took a whole course but I use my spirit guides to guide me alot and that seems to work out just fine. My intention is to take a lot of courses whenever I can afford.

I used to do a combination of, Chakra healing, and pranic healing that worked WELL(surprisingly), until I got dumped...I'm only able to draw energy from my Heart Chakra, and it's power is diminished, and for me almost snuffed out by heartbreak...
I wish you luck in your ventures.

I first started studying Reiki when I was learning the ways to enlighten my mind and so I guess I'm still a beginner, I've never tried healing others as my parents strongly disagree with my practices, so I have to do it in secret...

I really wish I can learn a little bit of Reiki at least learning the basic techniques of how to use it will be an good start. I know I have potential to use this for the benefits of others, I just need to hone it and learn at least the basic techniques.
