I was wondering where I can get an old leather tool belt or some kind of belt with pockets to use for steampunk, or if I should just make it. I saw a girl do it before with actual tools, but I want it to hold a ray gun and make-up, stuff like that.

The only pattern I have for something even close is for a craft belt kinda thing that I don't think looks as good, so I'm debating about altering it, and then I need to buy leather (Well, more likely imitation leather) and heavy duty needles, or use my canvas which wouldn't look as cool. I don't know if maybe I should just settle with canvas or not, but it may be more practical to buy it.

You can always check a Home Improvement store like Home Depot for them, and hope they sell leather toolbelts. If not, then I've no idea.

If you're going to make one using leather (which will look much better than canvas) you're going to need the right leather working tools. My dad made a utility belt which was awesome, so I recommend making it from scratch. You have more room for creativity, although modifying one would be easier. You don't necessarily need a premade pattern, just look at a few normal designs and sketch one up.
I must admit, I've been contemplating making one myself, I just need to design it first.

I think I might have some leather working tools, since my mom used to make bodices from heavy duty material, since they were cheaper and work well (Some of them are actually supposed to be used for furniture) So she has some heavier duty materials. I would still need some, and I should probably be looking around for if I could just use a regular sewing machine with a heavy duty needle or if I need specialized machinery.

And, of course, money is an issue. It's always the big issue.

My dad usually hand sows things, saves the need for machinery. If you already have the tools you need you're halfway there already! Yay!

The monies are always a problem. ._. Anyway, good luck with your project!

as far as belts go...
i know alot of persons who have made pockets for specific things. Like if their persona has a gun that they ALWAYS carry, then they would make a holder for that gun only.
When I was at AWA Danny Ashby of Outland Armour answered the question " When do you know you have too many pockets on your belt?" and his answer was " When you cant move any more." so if youre going to draft a belt dont be scared to put many pockets on it.

thats all i know for you
