Gaara Last name...or lack there of...

Has any one ever wondered why Gaara and his family doesn't have a last name. I mean for such a developed character you'd think he'd have a last name.

Since the family is the blood line of the Kazekage, they are called "Sabaku no" which means "of the desert". There is no need for a last name if it's obvious who they are?
