La was a feisty one; Cordel had his suspicions that she was the one who had tipped off W’ten and K’em, but there was no proof of it. He arched one eyebrow at his mouthy Apprentice and pointed out, “While we’re talking about things that should be, I might very well point out that there’s numbweed that you should be preparing.” In other words, ‘shut up, La, or else I’ll assign you to boring, smelly, and distasteful chores’. The language between Journeyman and Apprentice had a subtle tone all to itself. Not that Cordel really would assign La to something like that. That was what random Apprentices were for, ones without official mentors like himself. Cordel wasn’t going to let her miss an opportunity like this for some hands-on learning.

“Besides, every time I’m NOT at work, someone decides to experiment with stupidity. Someone dosed a weyrling with fellis and if I ever find out who it was… I’ve got to get that fardling door fixed…” Grumble, grumble, grumble… he went back to examining the patient, trying to figure out the right dosage. For adult dragons, a gallon was the official regulations, but a dragonet required different care…

“La? Run to the office and grab half a gallon of linseed oil. Mind the splinters. K’em was overenthusiastic again. And you!” Back to Rinfala again, because Cordel hadn’t ranted at anyone lately. “What were you thinking, letting her overeat like this? Were you too busy thinking about your hair?” Oh. Right. She was nearly bald, wasn’t she? Cordel had sort of passed over that aspect because dragons were more important. “You get to clean up after her once she’s… purged.” To put it mildly.

The tension whooshed out of Rinfala in a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding. As much as Arioth seemed to hate the idea of vomiting, at least she could--at least it wouldn't get that bad. The back-and-forth between the two Healers (a Journeyman and his Apprentice?) was largely baffling to the new goldrider, so she opted with the usually-safe option of acting like it hadn't happened. When Cordel turned his attention back to her, however, an eye twitched and she found herself taking a deep breath to avoid saying unpleasant things. "I try to avoid it, but she competes with her clutchmate. A lot. You probably saw some of it, even." Shards, he'd probably helped to patch up the Candidates mauled by both Arioth and her massive brown clutchmate. "Of course I'll clean it up, sir."

Shuffling around uncomfortably, Arioth paused and glared at Cordel as though wondering why he hadn't made her feel better already. Soon needs to be now, she muttered, expecting soon to happen, well...sooner. This was not...she didn't like it. At all.

The eyebrow made La quiet down, and Cordel's comment brought her even more into hand. Giving him a brief nod and casting her eyes downward in submission, she turned tail and fled for linseed oil. Linseed oil, she needed to remember that. Half a gallon...more than enough, she was fairly certain. Cordel was over-estimating. His comment about the splinters didn't even register with her for the time-being.

Isonth didn't bother to follow her rider at all and instead kept sending soothing feelings at the little gold, waiting with surprising patience for the poor creature to calm down.

Ok… so, it was permissible, Cordel decided, for a new Weyrling to be unable to control her lifemate at bonding. They were both getting used to each other then. But, the fact that Rinfala had allowed Arioth to compete so voraciously with her Brown brother did not speak well of her. While he sorely doubted that Rinfala and Arioth would ever become senior Weyrwomen, they would at least be Jr. ones some day. And that was bad enough.

“Then you need to learn how to stop it before she sets a pattern.” Ha! As if she already hadn’t. “Constipation can be cured easily enough, but it’s even better to just avoid it. In young dragons, it’s most often caused by overeating. Watch her more carefully in the future, especially if her brother is around. For the next few days, you’ll have to keep her restricted to gentler activities. Preferably ones without her brother involved, if that’s at all possible. I’ll have a word with the Weyrlingmaster about it.”

And as for a punishment… well, actually, there wouldn’t be one. Cleaning up would be enough of one.

Rinfala listened to Cordel in tight-lipped silence, with the occasional nod to show that she was indeed listening and not simply ignoring him. There was nothing she could say to excuse herself, nothing to shift the blame elsewhere. Arioth might have been as easy to control as an untouched two-year-old, but if she didn't manage it now, she'd never be able to. Arioth would only grow in size and power as she matured, and her already formidable will would only grow stronger. It was up to Rinfala to grow with her, or be left behind. "Yes, sir." After a moment's pause while she considered, "It won't happen again."

Air whooshing through her nostrils in a snort, Arioth studied the two silently. While her discomfort was growing, her panic had subsided with her rider's calming and the soothing thoughts of the patchy green. Now, she was more interested in seeing what these ones would do to make her feel better.

With a couple of cautious 'meeps,' twin flashes of gold and green darted into the room, giving the dragonet a wary glance before burrowing into a nearby clothesbasket. While Shim and Killer had deemed it safe to return, they weren't about to take chances yet.

La returned as quickly as she could, carrying the filled skin as delicately as she would have carried a bowl full of the oil. Which would have been a bad idea, though she did have one of the larger wooden basins under the arm she wasn't using to cradle the skin. She hadn't bothered to stopper the linseed oil; too much time wasting, frankly.

Striding up to Cordel, she gave him a cheerful, if mildly sarcastic, smile and handed him the skin. Then she set the bowl on the ground and went to Isonth's side to pat the dragon. You're doing a wonderful job, love.

She needed help, Lanamine. This is what we are for.
