Oh, this was much better than she had expected. Crooning, Arioth leaned into the scritches, looking very pleased and...almost gentle. They thought she was pretty and they were giving her scritches and they were good. I like these two, she affirmed to Rinfala. They are good. There was no double meaning, no emphasis that might have hinted at a Search, simply a vain dragonet thrilled that her ego was being stroked.
Grinning down at Arioth, Rinfala almost shook her head in amusement. "Almost as bad as a Harper," she quipped, her voice teasing. Aware that Hers didn't mean it, Arioth simply ignored the comment and kept up the rumbly little croons. "Most of them do, I think. It's a pretty reliable sweet spot." With a slight nod, she added, "Rinfala."

Oh dear. Vera really had indulged a bit more than was wise, hadn't she? A'bri wasn't exactly sure what to do- he wasn't sure he knew her well enough that offering to take her back to her room wouldn't be misconstrued, but it didn't seem wise to leave her unattended, either. ...And she was crying. That was not good. He definitely needed to try to fix that.
:Mine, your friend is very strange. Why does she sit on the floor when she could sit on the bench?: Varth's tone was puzzled, but he moved forward willingly enough as she stroked and patted him. He enjoyed that, and she was saying very nice things about him. He sensed A'bri's worry when tears slid down Vera's cheeks, and he gave a low croon, nudging her with his nose. :She is leaking, Mine. Can you fix it?:
:I don't think she chose to sit on the floor, Varth. I think she slipped,: A'bri thought, finding the silent communication surprisingly comfortable. :And I'm going to try... But usually when people cry, it means they are sad, so I'd have to be able to make her not sad, and I don't know if I can right now.:
Kneeling down in front of Vera when she indicated he should, he looked at her earnestly, concern clear in his muddy-green eyes. "Vera, sweet, do you want to go back up on the bench? It's probably better than being on the floor... There's a lot of people here, you don't want to get stepped on." Not that she was likely to be stepped on with Varth standing between her and the crowd, forming a barrier with his bulk, but still. "And yes, Varth is a Brown, and he's very big, and he definitely likes being petted. He's enjoying that a great deal, though I think he's a little confused as to why we're down here on the floor when there's a bench right there."
When Bell screamed, A'bri winced, and reached for his little bag of treats. The second kraw was not nearly so loud, which was somewhat reassuring. He smiled faintly, and held out a bit of dried meat for the Blue flitt's inspection. "Will this suit you, Master Bell?" he asked, hoping to keep Bell calm and quiet long enough to get Vera back up off of the floor.

giftwrapped "Oh, pish posh," La answered Zara's admonition. She was briefly tempted, likely courtesy of the buzz, to inform Zara that Cordel certainly appreciated the value of a good drink, but her common sense promptly tackled that idea to the ground and hauled it off long before she got anywhere with it. She was quite happy to haul Zara over to Anne, and smiled warmly at the other woman when they were finally close enough that she could talk without shouting over people.
"Anne," she said with a smile, pausing briefly and putting together a more coherent response. Shardit, cider should not be getting to her this quickly; it was only cider and it wasn't like La was a Candidate fresh from a hold and learning how much easier it was to avoid getting caught with alcohol. "Are you doing all right?" she asked after a moment, slightly more serious. Yansanth was a sweet Queen, and would probably be taking the death (and Cheoth's emotions, no doubt) badly...and that would reflect on the rider.
Anything else she had been about to say was stopped by the appearance of a flitt. Glancing up, La recognized her and blinked. "Ahoy?" she asked, lifting her hand and offering it, palm-up, for the flitt to perch. If Ahoy was here, that would mean...
Yep, there was the voice. "Ollen!" she called, turning and waving an arm in the direction she thought it had come. Shards, this was getting...interesting. Buzzed La and three lovely women? Only thing that could make this more awkward was Elae.
Not that La was complaining....not at all.
---
Food table....three sleeping men...hmph. We'll find it, anyways, Redhath answered, already patiently nudging W'in in a direction similar to the one he had been nudging before. W'in's protests were slightly more strenuous now that Toronth had stopped his humming, and possibly because W'in realized exactly to whom they were about to speak.
"Toronth, I'm really not sure this is a good idea..."
Nonsense, W'inmine. It's rude to ignore a lady's invitation, and you need enough work as is without having to restructure your manners.
And then they were in sight. Toronth rumbled happily and bugled a greeting to his sister, and W'in waved awkwardly at Ferris. The young woman managed to give a shrug and hold back some new onslaught of tears or emotions as she came into the close company of a friend. She gave a small nod and a smile to Zara, then returned her attention back to La's question. "Doing alright. For the most part," she concluded, shrugging once more and sniffling. Her eyes were still rimmed red, but she was holding up okay and didn't seem to be too much of a mess. ...That was probably only because Yansanth was asleep at the current time, so Annelie only had her emotions to really worry about. She blinked and opened her mouth to ask La the same question, but she stopped and just gave a small "Oh?" at the sight of the other flit. Gnattie recoiled her green neck at the sight of another of her kind, but she thankfully kept her skreeing trap shut. Another friend of La's? Annelie turned and looked where the taller girl was waving to, then spotted who must have been Ollen. The group's numbers were certainly growing. -------- Hwinth heard and spotted her bugling brother first, and she moved a few feet away from the table to give a little trill of her own. It was this that prompted Ferris to turn around and catch sight of W'in just as he finished waving awkwardly. "Well, look who decided to finally show up!" Ferris called, giving a cheeky grin as the pair got closer. Hwinth turned and looked at Hers for a moment, but said nothing and meandered back to the table with Toronth. "Woman-Weylin, how're you?" she asked, her voice over-exuberant as if to act as some sort of distraction as she skittered a foot closer and then landed a sharp, TOTALLY WELL-MEANT smack on the young man's shoulder.

Making a 'tch' noise and shaking her head, Zara simply left La's retort alone. Alcohol impaired both logic and judgement, and trying to impose these things on someone under the influence was...difficult. Since La wasn't that drunk--a bit tipsy, certainly, but nothing horrible--it simply wasn't enough to argue over. Shards, she'd be tempted to get into something good and hard herself, if Fuxith wasn't thoroughly mortified by the concept of drunkeness. Glancing between La and Annelie uncomfortably, she was relieved when the appearance of someone's flit proved a distraction. "Friend of yours, La?"

Ahoy gave some indifferent chirps towards the three women, she recognized one, the tall one that had the affectionate bronze. She twittered a few more times before popping between.
Ollen made her way to the group just after Ahoy popped out. "S-sorry, all the emotions swirling around must be getting to her," Ollen rubbed the back of her neck and slowly smiled. She'd interrupted their conversation, Shardit! Well, La had waved and invited her over..
If it were any other Gather Ollen would probably already be drinking but this wasn't any other gather, this one was one celebrating a happy...and said occurence. She looked at the other women, I'd rather pick all the diamonds from Ista's beaches than be here today.

TrinityCowgirl Unfortunately, A'nt could work no such magic in his own mind- the boy was still distraught over the Hatching's events, and likely would be till the end of his days. Worse, too, was the creeping worry and realization that he hadn't been watching Matsukazeth at all when he'd hatched. His focus had entirely and devotedly been on the little b- MINE! Honestly! If I do not keep an eye on you, all you do is talk yourself down! Do not worry, I have told you! Yours doesn't mind, for I have you now! And while it was semi-threatening in nature, A'nt could sense nothing but love from the little dragon. Laughing a bit in nervousness as his face colored, A'nt looked back to P'ree from Matsukazeth, giving a dismissive wave of embarrassment. "He, aha. ...Thinks I have self-confidence issues. And, uh, thank you! On the well wishes, and the compliment from Iawanth. It's nice to know somebody has some faith in me. Of course he does! Matsukazeth hummed brightly, once more stretching as if to show himself off. I am perfect for Mine, because he is perfect, and I will work just as hard as he does! We are a perfect match!"He thinks you have self confidence issues?" P'ree pointed to the brown and then to A'nt. Iawanth had taught him a lot about himself that he would not have known otherwise. "We both had a lot of faith in you, for what it's worth. You're quite welcome, Iawanth is very pleased." He looked at the proud brown warmly, he missed when Iawanth was small like that, it was silly to reminisce over, but he also recalled both of their dieing need to fly and to thrillseek when they were cooped up doing mundane things in the weyr. he wasn't quite what to say next. He was used to speaking so openly with women, not to young newly impressed riders. The day in the bowl where A'nt scared the pair was a different situation Iawanth's emotions were strong and P'ree wanted to reassure the young man that the blue wasn't going to do any damage to him..and Iawanth had spoken to him something that was quite rare for any dragon and his Iawanth. I have never met a dragon that does not have a perfect match, Iawanth's logic was...well it wasn't always completely logical and he often stated things that were obvious. A dragon without a perfect match would go between and no one wanted to think of that now.

She swelled a bit with subtle pride as her sister asked for the goldrider's name before she could, staying quiet to hopefully encourage this sudden change. Karai was good with people--much better than she was--and with a bit of time, surely she'd make plenty of friends here within due time.
Whether they were friends worth keeping, well, Ava would decide that.
"Very pretty." She murmured to the gold in agreement, laughing quietly at the strange noise that slipped from her. It certainly sounded happy, almost like a warble, but not quite. A brow quirked soundlessly at the unexpected mention of Harpers, her soft expression disappearing to be replaced with a calculating one. Was she talking to the dragon? Had to be, wasn't that fascinating?
"Nice to meet you." Was all she said, and though she was curious about how long Rinfala had been at this Weyr, she stayed quiet. Maybe Karai would ask, and the two would hit it off. This girl had a good head on her shoulders, or so she deduced from what she'd seen...

Ryugen "Z'nal's been going out of his mind trying to nail down someone to... well. Nail to the floor over it. He's furious, but apparently they've so far managed to keep a step ahead of him, if they're doing in on purpose. Or at least any of the reprimands he's handing out don't seem to be getting anywhere." Shards he hoped it wasn't some pack of idiots doing it on purpose. What could they POSSIBLY hope to accomplish by making people more miserable and stressed? Riots? Death in the barracks? The latter he hoped was extreme but somehow it didn't take much of a leap from his current thoughts. "Pretty thing." He acknowledged the gold, though he also immediately thought of F'sey and his thrise damned little monstrosity. "I'll admit I'm not the greatest fan of flits, however. I've had to speak to too many people about keeping them off the damn hatching sands lately." He sighed with open aggravation at this. "That certainly hasn't done much for my mood, personally." C'mor grimaced and shook his head slightly. "I saw a couple at the hatching with their flitts. I guess maybe it's easier to control them if you have a dragon to tell them what to do as well as yourself but I must admit to being less than impressed by them. As if anything more needed to go wrong; if you can't control them well enough to keep them off the sands, don't go yourself... I suppose if there are people messing things up on purpose, they'd be very, very careful. I can't imagine what the punishment would be for sabotage, but I wouldn't be surprised if any candidates taking part were sent away."
Still, if girls could touch soft eggs and not be punished, maybe idiots who made bad situations worse would get off without much more than a repirmand too. They had to be doing something more to that girl, had to be. He couldn't understand why she hadn't just been thrown out of the Weyr to begin with, he really couldn't.

Admittedly, it was a bit hard to keep track of everyone all at once, but Anne looked so lost that La immediately went to put her arms around the other woman. "Things'll get better," she murmured, feeling her own eyes fill with tears as she realized what she was comforting Anne over. When Ollen reached the group, she looked up and let go of Anne to hug the other girl.
"Hey," she said softly. "You all right?"
There was a brief pause, and she looked from Zara to Anne back to Ollen and bit her lip for just a moment before offering everyone a weak smile and dashing the tears from her eyes in a vigorous movement that made it look more like she was rubbing her face. "Zara was offering to stay with me tonight, and I know I'd like the company...maybe it'd be best if we all stayed together? You too, Ollen, if you want," she said, an arm still around Ollen's shoulders.
Nobody should be denied comfort on a night like this.
---
The smack all but overturned W'in, who was barely staying on his feet as it was. "It's W'in now," he muttered, fixing Ferris with a glare that was half-hearted at best. It was too late to deal with her right now. Toronth was eager to ensure his sister was still well, and had quietly abandoned W'in in his time of dire need.
"And I'm okay..." he shrugged. "Lots of trouble here. Only gonna get worse before it gets better, too."

The hug was something much needed, and it was appreciated immensely, but the sudden comfort and affection almost let the floodgates reopen, so the timing of La letting go was almost perfect. Annelie took a step back and rubbed her palm over her eyes with less skill than the Greenrider. She could feel Yansanth stir sleepily in her mind, and so she quirked a smile in attempts to send some sort of reassuring thoughts to both her human and dragon company.
"That... sounds good," she mumbled, nodding a little in agreement. Comfort was definitely what everyone needed right now, and comfort usually came in numbers. Usually. ------------------------
Ferris opened her mouth to give some comment about his name, but the new rider's latest words grabbed more at her attention.
"Worse?" she repeated, then began to shake her head slowly, her face calm and even holding a small smile. "No... I think things will start getting better; we've already hit the bottom, so now we can only go up, and while we may hit a few bumps and get a few bruises, we'll eventually make it out."
To her, the deaths of two dragonets -- two babies -- was rock bottom. There was Thread, and there was also losing one's own dragon, and while both things scared the living crap out of her, well... there was just something about witnessing what she had that evening that really hit home; death became real, it became possible, so now it was there and no longer something hovering on the fringes of imagination.
At Hers' puzzling thoughts, Hwinth took a moment away from her brother to move a few feet and tap Ferris' hand with her snout. The girl appeared to have barely felt it, but that was alright with the young green, and she soon moved back to Toronth, enough of her affection given for now.
How is yours, Toronth? Ours seem to know each other somewhat well...
