Uuni grinned back. It was strange to see someone she knew fairly well with a dragon that was really not much more mentally stable than a human child of three.

It would be nice to enjoy the water like that and to find it so new and shocking. Or perhaps it wouldn't; she did like being able to know how to swim well, and she didn't want to have to go through that endeavor again.

"You have your own mindhealer right there," Uuni pointed out with a smile as she tilted her head towards the dragon in question.

"If the response you were aiming for was want, you got that too, you know," she added with a grin and changed the subject back again. If Kess wanted to talk about it, she would. If not, and Uuni didn't blame her because of the green, she'd be just fine with that, too.

She'd yet to take anything more than a small sip of her own drink; she couldn't say her thirst was intense. A few more minutes out in the heat and that might be a different story.

"Indeed." Kess tended to use catchall responses, using that to cover everything Uuni had said as she fell quiet, her dark eyes continuously roving from the brunette to the green, who seemed quite happy to be stomping around in the water, now that she had her rider's permission.

"Were you just coming to confirm the rumors?" A casual question, despite the greenrider's heated gaze, and she found herself moving her right arm experimentally. It wasn't a bad break, they said, and luckily, she had many fortnights before she'd need to be riding Condoranth or be tossing bags of firestone in drills.

Uuni's eyes caught on Kess's. Was there anger there? Vaguely, she debated being careful about answering the question, but she found the honest answer, either.

"I don't know, Kess. Maybe? Does it matter?" She swallowed down a large portion of the cold klah and let her eyes wander back out to the raving green.

Eventually, she took in a deep breath and rose. Seeing Kess look between her and the dragon was aggravating, so she sat next to the blonde instead. She wouldn't have to look if she knew she was right there, right?

Something like that. Things in theory never played out the way they went in her mind. "I wanted them to be true, in any case," she added as she let out that breath she'd been holding.

"No, I don't suppose it does." Shifting a bit, Kess had no problem with their arms and thighs touching, sitting closely together. Rather, it seemed to relax her and she raised an eyebrow at Uuni's admission.

"... Really." A frown. "And why is that?"

A loud croon from the water was accompanied by Condoroth's immediate thought in Kesslan's mind.

Because Condoroth is the best for Mine! Because she is the hardest worker and the only worthy of Mine!

Lighting the blonde's interesting face was a sudden, pretty smile, and she shook her head at the dedicated dragonet.

It was Uuni's turn to take command of the situation. She brushed a thumb across Kesslan's cheek, and shook her head a little.

"Oh come on, I can be unselfish sometimes can't I?" she teased and dropped her hand. "Your girl was with her dragon, and I flat out abandoned you on the sands. Is it wrong to be a little glad that there was someone with you?" And that there was going to continue to be someone with Kess until the rest of her days.

She wondered if that's why most Hold and rider relationships failed to work out. It was hard to let one's love go towards a dragon; people were selfish. She would know, because she was definitely so.

The pretty smile caused her expression to soften some and she looked farther out along the lake to a few other people that were allowed to enjoy it. "Why?" Her voice had an obvious toying edge to it to try and lighten the mood. "What reason did you think I had?" There was a grin at the thought of Kess's frown earlier. Sometimes, people could be very silly no matter how scarred her reputation was.

Dark eyes flickering shut in response to the touch, Kess's mouth quirked up a bit on one side as Uuni spoke, moving her hand. "I didn't say that."

At the strange inflection she used for Rin [rather, Kess assumed it was Rin, but didn't comment] the blonde raised her eyebrows, clearly amused. "Why? I've no idea, so I figured I'd just ask."

Her gaze searched the other girl's face briefly, as if looking for something and finding it. Near hesitantly, she continued. "It's not as if I can say I know you well." It was true. The two did not know each other's thoughts and motives.

Uuni shrugged. She had to give the girl credit for that one. It was an answer enough for her, and she hardly needed to know.

There was concern written on her face when Kess's gaze wandered. She was so weird today. Melancholy and hardly sure of herself. Uuni wasn't sure she liked it, because she wanted to fix it, and that meant dedication. Dedication was something she had spent a long time trying to get rid of.

"No," she admitted with a grin. "Unlike with your dragon friend, you won't be getting my mind on a silver platter."

Moving so that she was just a touch closer, she began to add words to her thoughts. "But, if you want to know me a little better, I'll tell you a little secret." She let the silent air drift along for a few seconds before she explained. "I'm really tired, and I want a nap. So, if you'll take my klah, I think I might settle my head in your lap and take one."

Sleep had finally caught up to her, but it was a strangely nice day and she had no intentions of going inside anytime soon. Plus, then Kess's dragon would miss out on all the fun in the lake, right?

"That sounds... Good." Kess couldn't help the smile playing around her mouth and she finished her tea, setting the empty mug in the sand at their feet before taking the brunette's mostly full one. A rueful expression to show she couldn't exactly hold both at once [or rather, she could, as her right hand was fine, it'd just be rather awkward], and she nodded, leaning back a bit to make room.

It did sound good. Too good, almost, and the blonde worked to keep things casual by leaving her eyes on her new dragon.

This is much better than being in the weyr, Mine! I am practicing my jumps, look at what I can do!

You're brilliant, Condoronth!

Kess was definitely in a better mood than she'd been a candlemark or two prior.

Swinging her legs away from Kess's body, Uuni maneuvered the rest of the way around and did just what she said she'd do. Going off of body signals, she found a position she thought wouldn't make Kess's legs go numb and bent her knees and curled up on the small portion of rock that remained flat.

Hopefully she wouldn't drool this time.

Tensing her shoulders at the thought, she shifted once more before relaxing. For a while, her eyes searched the sand and the lake that lapped lazily along its edge.

This time, there were no dragons to bump her awake and none going between to keep her that way. When she faded off, there was a smile curling the corners of her mouth.
