Have you ever taken the chance to look at a fellow role-player's character profile, or your own for that matter, and wonder what inspired their creation? I'm sure every profile has some sort of reference to the person who created them somewhere.
If you want an example of what I am talking about, I'll go on and explain my character, Elyan Uriel Maxwell. And note, some character won't have as many references as others.
First off, his name is very old English as I happen to love Britain. Elyan, which is a real name, was the name of one of the Knights of the Round Table, led by King Arthur. The Knights, which were told as stories to Elyan at an early age, helped to form his personality. Thus, he became rather chivalrous. His middle name, Uriel, is named after one of the archangels of God. Although neither Elyan and I are religious, he came from a religious background and as such, his name reflects that. Maxwell, which was inspired by Duo Maxwell of Gundam Wing fame, is a very old English surname, dating back around the time of Elyan's birth.
Elyan and I share the same birth date. But, his age fell around the time of the War of the Roses (York vs. Lancaster), which also interests me. In terms of his physical being, he and I share few similarities. We are both the same height, but I made him weigh more than I do so he wouldn't be so skinny. But, as a human, he was sickly, a thing we sorta share (I have a genetic disorder). The albino thing just sounded unique. Plus, I like the color white.
Other than that, his story is one of my own creation. Of course, it has its inspirations. But, those will remain a secret. But, this is a majority of what helped to create Elyan.
So, what helped to create your character(s)?

An interesting topic (: Interestingly enough are you British too or just interested in Britain? XD (gogoBrits~)
My character stemmed from an interest in French history. I speak French in real life and I drew a lot of inspiration from Anne Rice's vampire novels - hence the name 'De Lioncourt', which you'll recognise no doubt if you're a fan of the series. The first name just happened to be my Gaia name at the time. I'm generally not too good with names to be fair. So Rikku de Lioncourt suited me fine.
She's of French nationality, mostly because I like the traits that are associated with the French - cold, somewhat arrogant. I know it's not necessarily good to play to stereotypes but at the time that was how I envisioned her character.
As a character she's matured a lot (I started DNY a.. Long long long time ago now. 2003 even). When I first started roleplaying as her she was still young and naive, now she's become rather cold, reclusive and of course the coven matriarch. She takes pleasure in causing problems for the other races of course.
It's been too long to tell you my exact reasons for her being. XD But there you go. (:

Unfortunately, I'm American (although, Obama rocks). But, I love British culture and history.
But to me, Elyan is a combination of my own traits, original character traits which I like to include and matured role-playing skills. Although, he's a bit of a baby at times, even if he is over six-hundred years of age. But, Meredith will be the one to make him tougher. ^_^

Boo! We need more Canadians in the guild, too. I'm so ronery ... - tear -
Canada was originally a British colony and we're still nice to ze Queen! XD
Anywhoo ... I suppose Meredith kind of stemmed from my uncreativity and laziness if anything.
I took a look at a few of the hunter profiles and noticed that Zin (former hunter leader) said he just disappeared from his family so I decided, heh, why not have a connection to another RPer? So I PMed him up, suggested the idea to him and he was all, "Kool beans, yo." (Not actually, but you get my drift.)
So after that I constructed the Meredith profilez. It was a lot shittier than the one now but yeah. I decided to make her a bit overly bold and extremely confident. She was someone who near always rushed into situations without thinking but she's one of those people who had a good heart and would do anything to keep another person safe, even a complete and total stranger.
I also decided that because of the first two traits she would not be shy so she's a loud blabber mouth. She also never finished high school so I try to make her seem somewhat ... I dunno, hasn't finished high school-ish, fought for a living kind of thing. Which leads to why she is so burly in her physical appearance. Not disgustingly burly but definitely more toned than most women you see around.
She doesn't like letting people know when she has a problem because she's self-conscious about seeming weak to people so she mostly just tries to blow things off that affect her. However, she's a horrible liar so most people can see right through her and such.
She's grown now, for sure. She's a bit more cynical after various screw ups and losses but she's still got that good heart underneath it all. More than anything she just tries to live her life and stand by her morales even if they seem like they aren't getting her anywhere in the long run. In essence, she's a goody two shoes that acts all tough so that people don't know how soft she really is. ^^
