Just last night, a friend introduced me to Yousei Teikoku [妖精帝國: trans. Fairy Empire]. This band is a duo which consists of Yousei Yui and Takaha Tachibana. Their music is a blend of very interesting sounds; their songs use everything from synthesized tracks, to symphonic melodies, to full choir vocals, to guitar and keyboard passages that would belong in some of the most epic of power metal. All of these combine to back up Yui's very sweet, youthful voice.

They remind me of artists like Love Solfege’, Kanon Wakeshima and Ali Project in terms of sound and style. Yui's vocals are stronger than Kanon's, but some of the use of strings reminds me of the cello in Kanon's projects, and the general themes of the music match up very closely with Ali Project and Love Solfege'. With their music, this band intends to invoke the Fairy Empire, lost to insensitive humans by time and cynicism. Because of this, their sound is very ethereal, but dramatic, and powerful. They have done music for anime on top of their own projects, including Innocent Venus, Kurokami and the Mai-HiME video game.

To be honest, I'm actually quite impressed with what I've heard of them [I'm actually amazed and disappointed I didn't find them sooner!]. The reason that I bring them up is that Yui often wears gothic lolita in their performances and PVs! She tends towards deconstructed styles that border on punk, lolita and aristo-inspired gowns, and also wears 'doll' goth, but always manages to look very, very cute. Sadly, I can't find very many clear photos of her in lolita, but a lot of the videos I've linked to below show her in outfits where the inspiration is clearly visible.

Songs I recommend:
Gekkou no Chigiri
Simulacra
Hades: The Rise
Hades: the Bloody Rage
Schwarzer Sarg
Gothic Lolita Propaganda
