Okami
System: Wii (original was on PS2)
Players: 1
Rating: 9
Storyline:
It starts out by telling you of how Kamiki Village was under the control of the evil Orochi. On the night of the full moon, Orochi would eat one of the fair maidens living in the village, and this occurred through a span of 100 years. On the last year, he picked out the maiden Nami, who was the love interest of the great warrior Nagi. Dressing up as his beloved, he went to Orochi's lair in order to defeat the beast, and ended up getting badly beaten. Just before getting hit with the final blow, a wolf with red markings appeared and helped Nagi defeat the dreaded Orochi. This wolf, named Shiranui, died during the battle, and was blessed as a God. The wolf was buried underneath the sacred tree of Kamiki village, under the protection of the Wood Sprite Sakuya.
It's been 100 years since the demise of Orochi, and thanks to some mindless fool, Orochi has been brought back to life. In order to protect the village, the wood sprite Sakuya revives the wolf, with a new name, Amaterasu, and it is here where your journey begins.
Gameplay:
OK, I'm not good at fighting games. Never have been. Not even Smash brothers. I'm not good at any type of game where you actually have to fight the monsters using punches and kicks. (except for simple one to two button attack games like Rune Factory)I get beaten every time. But my friend kept talking about what a great game it is, and kept asking me to try it out. I didn't believe her, because it does involved a lot of fight scenes. But then I picked up the controller, and it's become an obsession.
You play as the great sun god, Amaterasu Okami, the reincarnation of Shiranui. In the past, you had the powers of the great Celestial Brush, which allowed you to create cyclones, typhoons, and even trees, with just a few simple brushstrokes. But after your death, these powers were scattered across the globe, and it's your job to not only get all of the powers back, but to also rid the world of darkness.
The artwork for the game is absolutely beautiful. It looks like you're running around in a Japanese style painting, and there's plenty of areas to visit. The fighting scenes are pretty simple, but will kill your hand if you play the Wii version. As for using the brush, simply press the B button and make a mark with your controller in order to lash out the pain.
This game is absolutely great, but not for younger kids. And also be prepared to rest your hands a lot if you play the Wii version.
