Pack Váha

Members -

Life (male; owner undetermined) Alpha; mates to both Dark and Light; Smiles often, takes things lightly, loves and cherishes his pack.

Andre (male; owned by Kurimuson Luna) Andre is Life's unbiological step brother. He also represents Death, and is Life's fellow alpha. They met when they were youngster and grew up together, exploring. Andre is a very serious helix, and doesn't often show his softy side. He thinks the pack rests on his shoulders and he that needs to be strong for them. This doesn't mean he can't joke or be laid back from time to time, but there is always a bit of him on edge and alert.

Light (female; owner undetermined) Beta; mates to both Andre and Life; Kindhearted, Gentle, Honest; Is Dark's adopted sibling.

Dark (female; owner undetermined) Beta; mates to both Andre and Life; Feisty, Independent, Secretive; Is Light's adopted sibling.

Fire (male; owner undetermined) Gamma; mates to Earth; Has one son, Metal; Short-tempered, protective, jealous easily.

Earth (female; owner undetermined) Gamma; mates to Fire; Has one son, Metal; Giggly, Simple-minded, Loving.

Air (male; owner undetermined) Omega; mates to Water; Has twin children, Thunder and Lightning; Obedient, quiet, daydreams a lot.

Water (female; owner undetermined) Omega; mates to Air; Has twin children, Thunder and Lightning; Enjoys gossip, observant, loves to feel needed or helpful.

Akando (male; owned by Deadly Nonchalance) Adolescent; parents are Water and Air; Loves rough-play, talks loudly, can't take a hint most of the time.

Tristessa (female; owned by Veleteen Angel) Adolescent, parents are Water and Air; Sly, sneaky, and a smartass.

Acero (male; owned by Blue Eyed Melloon) Adolescent; parents are Fire and Water; Cocky, respects his parents & grandparents, wants to one up everyone.

All of these (except Andre's) personalities may not be the same once they have obtained an owner but for the purposes of this contest, please use their elemental titles and short personalities I've listed above to use in your entry.

Pack History -
The pack started when Life and Death found each other. As pups, they developed a twin-like bond. Genetically, they are unrelated but their closeness wouldn't appear so with out knowing them personally. They were adults when they met Light and Dark. Light's family had adopted Dark as their child, so again, Light and Dark are not related either. Light and Dark left their home once they reached adulthood. They didn't want to be separated so sticking together, they traveled. One evening, just after leaving the east, they ran into an injured male. Life. He'd hurt his leg some how, and his 'brother,' they assumed, became defensive of him. Snarling and growling at the females. Dark, being the more temperamental of the two girls growled and snapped in return. It was Life and Light that persuaded them to calm themselves.

After settling down, they all began talking and sharing stories. Dark and Death seemed to become more comfortable with each others presence, well enough. By morning they had decided to stick together. They remained in the same territory, Neutral, while Life's leg healed. They all had enough of traveling for now.

After so long, it was apparent there were crushes developing. The females would discuss it while the males were away, as would the males talk about their feelings for the females. Life has crushes for both Light and Dark. Light for her look on the world, and Dark's opposing personality from his own drawn Life to her as well. The same for Death. The males, one night, decided to confront the females about this. They had originally decided that if the females wanted them for mates, then they would choose who they wanted to be with the most.

The females were surprised that the males approached them on the matter. It was just so handy that earlier that day, they (being the females.) discussed who each wanted which one the most. Their problem: They couldn't pick. They had agreed that neither of them would pair with either of the males because they didn't want to break their friendship. But... not that it was out in the open that the males had feelings for them both, there was another option. Everyone just share! Death and Dark were the more jealous ones out of the four helixes but after talking about it, they didn't see a problem as long each one received enough of attention to fulfill their needs. It was decided with one exception between Death and Life: No male on male action. The females were disappointed, but agreed. (-snicker-)

Soon enough, there were little ones on the way. Light and Dark were both pregnant with non-fraternal twins. Each pup was parented by a different father but it wasn't apparent as the children looked almost nothing like any of the parents. Life, Death, Dark, and Light were are concerned but soon laid it to rest as they loved the pups the same as they would if they were identical to any of the adults.

As the kids grew, it was apparent that they were pairing off. Fire found interest in Earth because she kept him down to earth (LOL) and Earth found love in Fire because he set a torch to her heart (DOUBLE LOL). (-out of silly puns-) Water and Air connected quickly enough. Once the pairs reached their adult hood, it wasn't to long before they began adding to their family. Fire and Earth had one child, a boy, Metal. Water and Air had twins, Thunder (male) and Lightning (female).

The pack made home in the neutral territory, and remain there.

Prompt 3
Future
The pack needs to grow, and one of Life's grandchildren know it. How does the pack follow? Does one or two of the adolescent's challenge the authority of Life and Andre? Are there new members added? Come up with these answers! If you're chosen winner, we might consider your entry as a further plot for the pack.

Your Entry:

Since his three grandpups had become adolescents, capable of caring for themselves and not needing either of the omegas to watch over them to ensure that they didn’t get into some sort of trouble (though he supposed Water would always keep an eye on them until there were smaller ones running around, making nuisances of themselves in the most adorable ways possible), the pack had fallen into a bit of a pattern. Oron couldn’t, in good conscience, call it a rut – that implied that he didn't love the way things were.

He loved every last member of his family, loved their quirks. He felt close to all of them, and Oron could not count the number of times he had closed his eyes to savor the moment. How close had he come to not having this at all? What if Andre and he had slipped by one another the day of their fated meeting? Would he and his mates still know one another, or would that have been lost? He thanked the gods every waking moment for his luck, or his destiny - whichever had caused him to bump into the small white pup that would wear the pelt of another.

Oron was proud of his closeness with his pack, was proud that, despite the oddity he had come to see them as, they all seemed connected deeply. There were disputes, naturally, but Oron was proud to be the peacemaker, to stand beside his three partners and to diffuse the situation as best he could. Despite his optimism about everything, he did wish Andre would learn to take a step back when his fiery son would approach his half-brother omega, practically green with envy as he searched for the color on the Air's fur. Oron's adopted sibling was stable, was good, but Fire was riled easily, and it often took more work when the other stepped in than when it was left to the others. Yet, Oron was too uninspired to say anything to him. That was perhaps his greatest fault, he noted one fall evening as the sun blazed at the edge of the horizon: he was too easy-going. He was fine with letting things work out on their own – taking action wasn't his strong point unless there was something immediately at stake. It was laziness to a certain extent, but was mostly the interesting behavior of others that kept him from interfering. The black helix loved watching others, seeing them for who they really were, taking great interest as he watched them develop and become independent. Their lives fascinated him so.

Most of the pack knew of his paws-off policy, for the most part, which was the surprising part when he found himself confronted by one of his grandpups shortly after the sun disappeared. Thunder's metallic accessories glowed faintly in response to Oron's markings, the pair feeding off one another to create a small circle of light around them. They greeted one another the way they usually did when Oron wasn't behaving as an official – picking up their speed slightly as they neared, bonking their heads together gently (being careful of Thunder's horn) before twisting into a small wrestling game. As Thunder had gotten older, Oron had offered him more of a challenge, but he never pushed himself to his fullest against the adolescent. Watching his violet eyes light up happily when he stood proudly as the victor made Oron happy. Oron felt a certain bittersweet feeling when he pushed the adolescent off to stand up, shaking his fur and towering over the other. How long would it take before Thunder was too old to play with him anymore? Before he could even begin to ponder, a smile settled on his face. "One day, I'll beat you, pup." His voice was soft – the air was heavy, a little humid, and it felt like a night that needed to be quiet.

Which, really, didn't seem to matter to Thunder. "I've been thinking," he announced loudly, prone to waking the entire territory. Oron winced a little, but it vanished as quickly as it had appeared. Anyone who had been around Thunder for what should have been a private moment would know better than to expect volume control. "Where do we go?"

Oron didn't speak for a moment, trilling the question over and over in his mind. Finally, perplexed, he simply uttered, "What?" Playfully, he tilted his head to the side, laughing when Thunder blurted the question again before finally calming enough to respond somehow. "Elaborate?"

Without thinking or waiting or growing any more quiet, the adolescent continued, "There isn’t anyone in the pack I'm not related to." Realization dawned on Oron, but the other continued without waiting for a response. "I – We – aren’t going to be this young forever. Eventually, we're going to grow up and what then? I mean, Lightning's my sister and even so I don't think I could share with Metal." Oron hadn't expected him to. What he, Light, Dark, and Andre shared was special; he had a slightly arrogant belief that no average helix could pull it off (not that he thought any of his pack were average by any means). "He makes everything a competition, y'know?" Thunder began to pace a small pattern. "He'd be simply insufferable. He'd be all 'I had the first son,' 'I was with her first,' 'She likes me more,' and other stuff. Right?" Without skipping a beat, he went on. "I don't want to be alone."

"Ah," Oron stated softly. Looking out, he realized that the rest of the pack was busy elsewhere – he and his grandpup were totally alone. He wasn't sure if Thunder had devised that himself, but he would be willing to bet that he had this planned for a long time. "You want-"

"To take others in," Thunder cut him off, nodding enthusiastically. Oron felt simultaneous joy and sorrow. He had known the issue would surface, but that did not make it easier to deal with. The alpha was ecstatic at the prospect of new helixes joining the pack. Any new blood was welcome as far as he was concerned – it meant new faces to watch out for, new personalities to learn, and new lives to influence. It was a dream come true. On the other paw, he liked the status quo. He would have been content to dwell forever as they did now. Comfort and being able to know every last member of his pack as well as he did called for him to deny the adolescent's request. If too many others showed, it wouldn't be his family any more, and that bothered Oron considerably.

Nevertheless, Oron nodded in understanding. He loved his family… that meant others should be able to share in that love. If it meant the alpha needed to become a little less selfish and step outside of his comfort zone – so be it. "I'll talk to Andre. Thank you for coming to me, Thunder." The adolescent did not immediately recognize his dismissal. For a moment, they sat there in an awkward silence before he nudged the other a little more sharply than he had meant. "Go see what the others are up to. See if there's anything you can do for me." The other followed his orders shortly thereafter, leaving behind Oron, who headed immediately to Andre.

He came across his brother talking with Light and Dark, and Oron couldn't have been happier than to have all of them together, both for his own joy and for the thing he needed to speak to them about. They continued talking without him, eventually drawing the conversation to a close. "I just talked to Thunder," he ventured once they looked at him, expecting that he had something to add.

"Oh, are your ears okay?" Light's question drew a laugh from him, alleviating the tension he felt. He needed to get the proposal out, but had been too nervous. There was no use sneaking around it or trying to be subtle. It needed to be done. Sitting down, he told all three of them of Thunder's concerns and of his idea. Oron was completely unsurprised when Light voiced many of the same concerns he bore, and he voiced his agreement, both with her pros and cons. Dark and Andre saw the more practical side, that the pack did need others to come in or it would eventually die. However, they also voiced opinions that there would be more trouble with new helixes, that they would be unpredictable and a burden until they settled in.

Oron sighed. There seemed to be more cons than pros, both for their own sake and for the pack's. "We need to talk to the others." Light said finally, though Dark was quick to shake her head.

"No – we're the leaders. Rather, Oron and Andre are. They or we need to decide. It's their and our duty." On that note, they collectively headed to the den, leaving the discussion for tomorrow.

---

The next few days were a whirlwind of things going badly. Light got up early the morning following the meeting, waking Oron to walk with her. They decided that their family was more important than duty and that Dark and Andre couldn't be mad at them forever. Thus, they found the other helixes and talked to them in quiet voices.

There seemed to be no agreement. The way things were worked for most everyone except the adolescents, who voiced unhappily that there was even a question about whether or not others should come in. The pack as a whole realized what keeping the door closed meant, but the idea of dealing with new helixes tore the pack apart. Earth and Water adored the idea, wanted to meet and get to know helixes and add them to the family. Air wanted what the alphas wanted, stating the same idea as Dark – they were the leaders, their opinions were right. Fire was adamantly against new helixes joining, stating they were only inviting trouble by inviting the unknown into their pack.

Light told Andre and her sister what she and Oron had done, and the other pair's anger was visibly present. Light and he proposed that they should open the borders. Only Fire seemed to think it an utterly bad idea. Whether out of hurt feelings, or because Andre's logic dictated that the list of cons was longer than the list of pros (which seemed more likely), it was rejected. Now the pack wanted to know that, but all four of the leaders spouted that they needed more time. Meanwhile, over the next few days, things grew silent and cold between the pairs. Dark and Light weren't talking, and any attempts Oron made to talk to Andre were brushed aside.

Three days after their fracture, Pack Váha fell apart.

The entire pack was grouped together, looking towards Oron and Andre for some sort of answer. The pack was split in two, the adolescents stood apart from the others, all of them too independent to associate with the pack that didn't seem to take into account their problems. "We've decided," Andre said calmly, "to reject the proposal to open the pack's walls at this time. There are too many risks and not enough to gain. Discussion over."

Oron's ears flicked back as he watched the adolescents bristle. Lightning and Thunder were the worst. Thunder glared evenly at him like it had been his decision. Lightning was being more subtle about it, but her stiffness was easily identifiable as agitation. Metal, on the other hand, dipped his head in acceptance, walking slowly towards the rest, though he stood a measured distance away still, defeated. Oron tried to come up with words to denounce what Andre said, but knew it was a fight he couldn't win. Thunder growled slightly, ears flicking back in anger. Before he could come up with the words, Lightning spoke over him. "So we get to be alone because you decided so?"

"You're not alone; you have all of us." Andre replied, and Oron noted that there was no soft edge to his voice. He knew what was coming before the female opened her muzzle again and Oron fought not to run to somewhere away from this unpleasantness.

She did speak, her voice curt and simple. Her lightning arched in the sky above her, dancing out slightly. It bespoke of the rising tension, and all eyes were on her. "If our futures matter so little, then there's no point to us remaining."

"We're leaving." Thunder bellowed once she finished. Oron drew back, distanced himself from Andre. The purple helix was still watching him, his violet eyes coldly judging him from the distance.

"Then go." The phrase had no feeling, no warmth, and it killed Oron to have to listen to it. For a moment, he and Lightning watched one another before she ducked her head, turning to leave without a word. Thunder, for once following someone's lead, turned and followed behind her. No one spoke as they began to vanish, and Oron felt eyes on him. What did they expect him to do? Yet, even as he questioned himself, he knew the answer. Drawing himself to his full size, Oron turned to face Andre, who glanced at him. The expectation drew itself out for what felt like forever.

Was he really willing to throw away Light and Dark, to brush aside his deep connection to the other male for their grandpups? Would he give up his comfort zone in order to do what they expected him to do? Or did they not expect anything of him at all? They probably suspected that he would go along with it and refuse to question Andre's methods.

Oron took a step away from his brother, too much aware that part of him was vanishing further away. "I," he began softly, his normal cheery demeanor faded from his face, "cannot stay here if they leave. Andre, the pack will die without new helixes. What happens when they," he indicated the rest of the pack with his tail as he implored, "have more pups? What happens to Metal? Do we just make all adolescents make the choice of leaving or being without a mate?" He lifted his head higher, aware that Andre was still larger than him. He needed to be authoritative. "That's not a fair decision. I won't force them to make that. I'm sorry."

Andre said nothing, and Oron took one final look at his pack, all of whom he loved. His eyes lingered on Light and Dark, wishing at least one of them would join him. His paws began to move as he swept past his brother, his lovers, his family. He picked up speed until he caught up with the others. They bristled and told him they weren't going back. Oron sighed and told them neither was he.

---

A week, a month, or several - he wasn't sure how long he and his grandpups had wandered through the Southern Territory. They were growing quickly, making friends who accepted them as readily as their own family had. Oron felt like an observer. Despite the fact he made friends as well, despite the fact that he was overwhelmed by the life that glowed in each and every helix, unique in its own way, amazingly flourishing in his eyes that had gazed at the same faces for so long, despite all that, Oron felt disconnected, like something was missing. He ignored it as best he could, spending time with his travel companions with as much energy as either of the two adolescents.

One evening, he became aware that they were being followed. Organizing their small group into a hunting party, Oron soon began tracking their trackers, going in a neat circle with them until they turned about, running headfirst into two helixes, one black pelted and bearing antlers, and one white with rings that glowed. Oron felt happier in that moment than he had in the entirety of his life.

They brought them – all of them – back home, where they met a pack at its breaking point. The balance that had served Pack Váha so well had been thrown off. When he saw Andre, Oron became aware that the strain had undoubtedly become too much. Oron required no admittance that he was right, that he was welcome to return. He greeted his brother warmly, and, within the hour, introduced the new members of Váha to their packmates. The balance was restored, if a little more tipsy than usual. Nonetheless, Oron wasn't worried. They would make it work, would always be there to maintain the balance.

That was how it would be, how it was, and how it always had been.

Can you tell me you'll participate in this pack often, if you win the alpha?: I know I'm new, but I promise that I stick around for things I'm interested in, and Alpha Helix and this pack interest me a lot. My first year of college is coming up, but I'll be around as much as I can when I'm not busy with RL things. That's the best I can do. <3

Levnad sat up on a ledge that overlooked the territory their pack claimed. He had heard that young members of their pack had problems with the way it was being run. Thanks to them not being as quiet and secretive as they thought. He had come up here because it was a good thinking spot. 'How should we deal with this without destroying the pack? Even more how am I to present this to Andre' he thought a little sad. It would kill him if the pack got torn apart. He stood up and walked back down to camp to find and warn Andre. Levnad had no clue when it might be made public knowledge or if the adolescents may take a stand. He picked up his pace.
-------------------30 minutes--------------------
"Andre, you know that Tristessa, Akando, and Acero won't be able to mate unless we accept new blood. That's what they are worried about. The pack can't survive without more helixes either," Levnad said calmly trying to talk sense into Andre.

Andre shook his head "I don't think it's necessary. The pack is thriving there is no need to change that," He replied making it sound like it was the last he would hear off it.

"You'll find that it might drive the adolescents to mutiny," Levnad cautioned before walking away to go check on the pack.
---------------------- Next Day-------------------------
"We just want a couple new members for every generation That's it," Acero said quietly. He disliked talk like this to his elders. Tristessa and Akando had talked him into it.... Actually it was more like blackmail.

Tristessa was standing right next to Akando. "Akando will take you on Andre," She said earning her a fine glare from Akando.

Akando ignoring his sisters comment looked at Andre and said "The pack agrees.... Well almost all of them. Air and Water are the only ones that don't."

"That still doesn't mean It's necessary," Andre said trying not to show a little bit of worry because he had lost most of the pack's choice on this matter. Including the other alpha of the pack.

"Please be sensible," Acero said trying to compel the reluctant Alpha into changing his mind.

Light padded up to Andre "You know yourself that it is necessary yourself whether you accept it or not. Besides it's just a couple," The beta said to Andre.

Andre nodded to what Light said. He knew she was speaking honestly to him. "Though I protest the acceptance of new members the rest of my pack seems to think it's the only way. I'm a sensible leader and will listen to your request to prevent inbreeding. Though we will only accept members that fit in with our pack," Andre said giving in to the packs will. even though he still thought it wouldn't be smart......
--------------- 1 hour Later------------------
Levnad looked at Andre with his usual smile back in place "I knew you would see reason," He said to the vexed looking Andre.

"How did you find out about that? and why did everyone take their side?" Andre asked Levnad.

"I listen to the pack even if they don't think i do. Plus Adolescents aren't that secretive. Everyone saw and understood the point the three adolescents made," Levnad said hoping to ease Andre's Vexation. "Don't worry it won't take the pack apart. If anything more members will make it better," Levnad added before standing up and walking back up to the ledge to overlook his pack.

Prompt Chosen: Prompt 1 Wrote razz ast: Tell me a story of Life's past. If could be of when he was a pup, when he was an adol, or when he met Light and Dark and decided to start the pack. Be sure to stick to his history, though.

Your Entry: "He is difficult!" "He is kind." "He's a burden!" "He's generous." "I just don't see why you love him so!" "Just as I don't see how you can dislike him so much." The battle between the two raged as I watched, my body as low to the ground as I could keep it, the pack's omega watching over me with a keen eye to be sure I didn't run off to cause more trouble.

It was me they were fighting over this time, not that they needed an excuse to fight. They were nothing alike, my father's brother and my mother's sister, like night and day, and there were no two helixes who were such polar opposites in both looks, thoughts and feelings. My proud uncle was cold and ruthless, despising my father for taking over my grandfather's pack as alpha instead of him. He hated me with every fiber of his midnight colored fur and this fight showed those feelings in every poison dripped word he spat at my aunt. My loving, modest, calm aunt who lived and breathed for her younger sister, my mother. Her gold coat gave off a glow that sang of love and life, a glow I had been blessed with from my mother and her shining silver fur.

The war waged on between the two, each gaining a paw over the other but never coming to an agreeing point. This was why they were betas, though they could each lead well enough they were too stubborn to listen to the pack over their knowledge or pride, that being the only trait they shared.

"What is all this noise about?" Having returned from his daily walk alone, my father had heard the sound of yelling and had sprinted to see the cause of the raised voices. Stepping between the two my noble father gazed around the pack awaiting an explanation for the fight. Hearing a rustling beside me my babysitter, Felix began to speak. "If I may sir, Lore here managed to sneak off and ran into a member of our rival pack."

A collective gasp was heard from the other members around us, sneaking out was bad but running into a rival was worse, it would have been far to easy for the rival to tear me to shreds. Murmurs of voices echoed around the clearing as gossip accumulated. It was common knowledge I was in trouble for a great misdeed but it was unknown the felony I had committed. "Not only did he run into this helix, he led the thing back into our territory and to our den."

I really wished right then that Felix had been born mute. With a couple sentences from the lowly omega I had a thousand burning eyes on me, all glaring with anger and, in some, betrayal. I had done the unthinkable. Now the only question was how I was to be punished.

"Where is this helix who has so easily infiltrated our territory?" My father, always levelheaded even in the most dire of situations, requested the presence of the one I had allowed access to our most precious of treasures, my fellow pups.

Smiling gently my aunt trotted off and after a couple of seconds returned with what looked like a small ball of white fur with black tattoos decorating it. The ball was clutched between her teeth and just hung there, unmoving, almost as if dead. Resting the ball beside me she bowed to her alpha and took a few steps backward so that all could see our rival.

A flurry of paws and our pack had gathered close around me and the ball, eyes shining with curiosity and seriousness. Trying to ignore the endless stares I nosed the ball gently. After a few seconds of no movement I tried again only harder this time. When that still didn't work I tried the only other tactic I knew of, comedy. "Its not fair Andre! I've been a part of the pack my whole life and have never had so much attention from even half the pack, yet you come here for a day and already have the entire packs attention! I'm jealous!"

Relaxing slightly at my friendly words the ball unrolled to reveal a muzzle, two ebony eyes and small ivory fangs. "This is no time to kid around Lore, this is very serious. Your pack could tear me limb from limb for invading your territory, and my pack could easily decide to start a war for your pack pupnapping me. I am the heir to the pack after all." Though he whispered every word with all seriousness, I could still hear the slightly haughty tone he provided with that last sentence, and I decided he was being a little too uppity for my liking. "Heir or no heir I don't like the tone you're taking with me Mr. Death to all fun."

From the moment I met Andre I decided that loosening him up was going to be my job, and since he looked awfully tense I just had to loosen up his muscles by giving him my special massage, I called it The Lore Wonder!

Pouncing on the male I bit his ear lightly and proceeded to sit on his face, pushing it into the ground with my weight. "Lore get off me! You're too heavy! You're fat is crushing me!" Squirming below my amazing muscles Andre growled up at me, his eyes snapping in annoyance that he couldn't beat my awesome manliness,..... or something like that.

"Me? Fat? No you're confusing fat with muscle, cause I'm not fat at all!" Grinning I wasn't at all surprised when he knocked me off and followed it up with a mimic of my earlier move.

Wiggling himself back and forth to rub my face in the dirt his smug voice rang above me. "How do you like having your face pushed into the ground?" Seeing as I couldn't reply I answered with my tail whipping him in the face, while he was surprised I jumped and tackled him to the ground.

So caught up in our play fight neither of us noticed the warm smile of my father as he turned to the rest of the pack. "I believe there's no need for alarm. In fact, I think Lorah has the right idea. It is about time we put aside our differences and end this rivalry. Demora, Lucius follow me. I must speak with this pup's father at once." Smiling Aunt Demora bowed her head "Yes Alpha."

Yet in a fury Uncle Lucius went against the orders he had been given and called out his brother. "We're going to let some pup decide our pack's fate? You're going to listen to some flea bitten child and his deranged friendship over this pack?! How dare you! What gives you the right to decide such a fate for my pack?!"

At that my father lunged at his brother, quickly pinning his jugular beneath his paw, his fangs poised deadly right in front of my uncle's face. "What gives me the right? I am alpha, brother, or has your jealousy and anger clouded your vision so much that you've forgotten that fact? Everything I do is for the protection and safety of the pack. Ending this rivalry will ensure no lives are taken and that peace once again settles in our territory."

Growling he leaned in closer so that Lucius could see the spit glisten off his canines. "And that fleabitten child you talk about is my son. He is the future of the pack and if I hear you speak one more foul word about him or his newest friend you will face the wrath of my fangs." Letting up on the male, he walked on without a backwards glance, his only loyal beta trotting up beside him.

"She would have wanted it this way." His words were soft and loving, the pain lacing them adding to the purity in which he spoke them. "All this is for her."

Gazing at her alpha Demora felt the need to comfort the hurting male. "It's too bad she couldn't see how much he's grown. How much you've grown. She'd have loved to see peace finally restored. She would have wanted it this way."

Staring at the territory ahead the two stood side by side thinking of the future that was those two pups behind them, while remembering the ghost of the past they looked forward to returning to again.

Can you tell me you'll participate in this pack often, if you win the alpha?: Of course! I know that owning an alpha is a big responsibility and that just disappearing isn't going to cut it. Ever since I read your entry I've just loved the pack I mean come on a helix foursome? It can't get any better then that wink

Breath of life.

The saying, it entails Birth, new beginnings, hope and promise. My life has been full of them, and I am unsure where to begin. I believe I’ll be starting from my younger days.

It was a strange time for me when I met my brother, Andre. There was already so much change in the world and finding my paws was looking to be a great challenge. Young and naive I’d have thought to call myself back then, but maybe I always knew where my life would take me.
Although Andre and I are close inseparable brothers now, when we met it was a different story. We both had a lot of growing to do and who he and I are now is not who we were then.

I ran through the brush with my breath heavy and my paws pounding so hard they vibrated on the earth. It was as though my chest was filled with a ball of positive energy. I felt as though I were flying close to the ground more than anything else right then. When you’re a pup, each emotion and experience is so powerful! I’m sure you will remember this time in your own lives.

The Woods cried all around me with calls from animals and sounds from every direction. My sensitive hearing buzzed from them. When I came to a stop, breathing harshly and trying to calm my heart there was something I noticed. A smell, Helix. Being so very small I had a lot to learn, about pretty much anything and everything.

The Scent was young, like my own. Male, I could gather although still finding my feet on such matters. My father always taught me that using your nose was just as important as using your ears. It was one lesson a Helix would forever hold onto. Putting my head to the floor, excited at the prospect of my first ever real tracking adventure, I let the smell invade my entire sense.

Then I let my paws do the walking.

The trail led me further away from home, however my mind was so focused on the task that I did not notice until I’d reached the flowing river which was about a mile away from our den. This whole part was territory to us but there were always things out there willing to snatch such a small creature.

I looked around carefully, sniffing the air and hoping to catch a fast glimpse of my pursuit before heading back home.

He was lying near the water’s edge and not moving at all, it concerned me a little to see one lie so still so I moved a little closer hoping he was uninjured. I had not smelt any blood but it could have just happened and my instincts told me something wasn’t well with this other male.

Soon as I was close enough his head rose up and sniffed around him, ears flickering to catch a sound. I hadn’t realized until now that the wind was blowing from behind me! Too late, my own scent was picked up, time to face the beat. “Are you unwell?” I asked, hoping to sound pleasant enough. The new pup turned to me and I noted at how unique he was.

The patterns on his fur and pelt reminded me of my own glowing ones yet they were totally his own. His eyes were darker than I’d ever seen, deep orbs that appeared to go on forever. Then I noticed he held something in his jaws, a kind of mask. I wasn’t sure what to make of it, and my stare must have annoyed the other because he growled.

“What’re you gawking at?” He asked. The statement made me jump far more than the growl itself, and I found myself unable to answer him. “Uhm..”

The other Helix got to his paws and stared at me long and hard, and then he dropped the mask almost angrily. “Well? What do you want?” Again a question that made me pause. Finally I found my voice.

“I was just wondering what you were doing here alone, that’s all.” It felt silly to say, so I tried the more light hearted approach. Grinning my best and most welcoming grin, I then said. “So are you passing by, where are your parents?” He deflated at that question and I felt bad instantly.

“They’re gone, so why don’t you leave so I can figure out what to do next!” Turning around once more, he sat down huffing. My being here was obviously greatly upsetting to him but I didn’t feel like giving up. Something kept me standing there, watching him.

Taking a great risk, I padded over with my gangly young legs and spoke very quietly. “My names Athanasios, what is yours?”

Again he shocked me, by snorting. “Athanasios? What kind of name is that!? I’m called Andre.” He glanced at me with amusement in his eyes and I felt happy to have lifted his angered state somewhat even though he was mocking my namesake! “Well, my parents named me, but you can just call me Athan.” It was hard to be nice to someone so easily annoying but I would not rise to his baiting and biting comments.

Andre smirked and said “Alright Athan...Leave!”

What else to do but just walk away? He didn’t want me here, and my sadness for his loneliness didn’t seem to be tolerated. Turning around to head home, I thought about what leaving him here would mean. He would become a wanderer, someone without a pack. Helixes naturally gathered together, it would be a shame for him to remain alone now, wouldn’t it?

Just as I was about to swing back around once more, I heard a cracking sound just ahead of me. Watching the trees bend and snap, I gaped stupidly as a large Bear emerged from the brush. “Holy..” As a Helix I would have stepped back from the prospect of such confrontation, but as a pup Helix? Well, running came to mind really fast.

I looked back at Andre as he stared blankly at the large bear, he didn’t seem too worried. “Shouldn’t we move, he might eat us!?” I said, hoping the other would take my comment as truth and come with me. Andre just looked at me. I wasn’t sure what he was thinking but it didn’t seem to be all that good in my mind. Then the Bear smelled and noticed us, it must have come for the fish but what he had found was a buffet of youngsters.

The enormous animal lumbered forward, a lope that at first would seem slow and lazy but as he came closer you realized he was actually quite fast and very very heavy! I jumped away from him, running fast as possible to the side and turned around to find Andre. He was growling low at the Bear who was turning from me to look at the new prey.

“Andre move away from it!” I yelled, but he wasn’t listening. In fact he was just growling, antagonizing the Bear even more! I wasn’t sure what to do and the only thought that came into my mind was suicide! Regardless of that I could not sit there and watch someone get killed.

Drawing on all of my courage that hadn’t flown and left me right then I ran as fast as my paws could allow, and sank my teeth into the paw of the Bear. Just a distraction, but it was enough. Unfortunately he was not impressed by it and batted his large appendage out and sent me flying backwards.

“Hey!” Andre cried out, he grabbed the mask he was holding before and ran to my side looking at me as though I was completely nuts. Maybe I was but he hadn’t exactly left me any choice! “Fine if you need looking after so badly, come on let’s get out of here!” We both left the area faster than I believe we may ever run again.

Minutes later, when we’d caught our breath we each just stood looking at one another. I tried smiling at him but Andre wanted nothing to do with my attempts at friendship. However, he didn’t seem so mad at me anymore, in fact the look on his face was much more open and curious. Then, for no reason at all he just burst out laughing.

“Uh, what’s so funny?” I asked, not sure if he was entirely sane at all at this point! Andre calmed his chuckling down and shook his head. “Nothing, just you. You’re funny.” Letting out a few more snickers, Andre then schooled his features once more to look serious, although his eyes were now deeply amused.

“I think we could have a lot of fun together, you and I.”

The words confused me for a second, but then I felt a certain happiness from them. “Will you come back with me then? I’m sure Mum and Dad won’t mind, really!” I wasn’t sure why this made me pleased, but seeing his face I knew it was the right thing. Andre nodded, slowly. “Yeah why not. Lead the way....Hero.” He snickered once more, and from that day on we had many adventures together.

Unfotunately, that is the only story I have time to tell you today, but tomorrow maybe you will know more about me. For now, good night.

Athan~

Can you tell me you'll participate in this pack often, if you win the alpha?:

All I can say is that I will do my best to remain active, and roleplay as much as humanly possible. Sometimes life takes over, sometimes you are busy! Sometimes things just bloody happen but I am willing to promise to do to the best of my abilities.
