"Actually that had nothing to do with it. You'll probably see more people with unconventional preferences at the Weyr than you would anywhere else on Pern."

E'rik pretended not to see Brishen's sprawling landing. Few people were particularly graceful after their first time flying and going between, and regardless of his personal feelings toward Brishen, he could afford him some measure of dignity. After all, there was the possibility that they'd end up fighting Thread together in a few turns. Should that prove to be the case, he would have to be able to work with him, which meant he should really avoid any further alienation tactics. Those he could save for people he had good reasons to dislike.

"You're welcome," he said after handing the trunk down and then sliding to the ground.

"When you've recovered a bit you'll want to go down that corridor - " he gestured "- until you find yourself surrounded by harrassed looking teenagers. Those are the other Candidates. At that point, ask any of them where to find the Candidatemaster and he'll see you settled in. You'll probably find that you've a roommate or two, or maybe even three. I was serious about the overcrowding."

He leaned back against Dara's side, allowing himself to enjoy the feel of the sun after the cold of between. He was used to going between, but that didn't mean it wasn't colder than anything he'd ever imagined, or that he didn't crave sunlight after even a short jaunt.

Brishen slipped down and sprawled out on the ground deciding he wanted to be warm and warm now! Since sitting on the trunk wasn't cutting it he was going to lay down and just sun bath for a bit. "Had to make sure. Some people are Shards! How can you like boys! Don't hit on me!" He stuck out his tongue, flipping over and wiggled slightly. "Like I would."

"Mm, harassed teenagers check. If I can I'm going to hunt down Jessan and have him handle it." It would be best to find a candidate he knew, fleetingly, who been here for a while. "Everywhere is over crowded. I was sharing a room met for two with a third and some how got designated the floor." He said dryly.

"It's not as though the Pernese are known for being so accepting of alternative lifestyles," E'rik remarked drily. His hold had been very conservative and he'd been deeply shocked the first time he saw two men holding hands in a non-platonic way. He'd gotten over it. He worked on taking off Daramulath's riding harnesses as he spoke so that Dara could just fly off and enjoy himself after this was done with. He'd hang the harnesses up in their weyr later.

"I won't worry about you if you already know people here. I don't know Jessan personally, but I've heard his name for a while. I would assume he knows what's what by now, and can help you." E'rik hadn't intended to worry anyway, but he felt somewhat better knowing that he was justified in his decision.

As he continued to unbuckle straps and untie knots he could make in his sleep at this point E'rik listened with half an ear to Brishen describe his living conditions in the hold. He remarked disinterestedly, "Unfortunate, but probably an invaluable experience in preparing you to live here."

You're done, he told Daramulath, thumping him on the shoulder. He slung the leather harnesses over his shoulder and looped the longer straps several times before hooking them over the same shoulder and stood back. Daramulath's hind legs' muscles bunched and he leapt to the sky, using several powerful downstrokes of his wings to help him attain lift.

"More then likely," 'Rish replied finally getting to his feet and brushing down his clothing. He was warm enough, hefting his trunk he position it on his shoulder. "For all it's worth. Thanks." He gave a smile at E'rik. "Both of you." He started down the corridor, slowly whistling a slow tune. 'Time to find Jessan. Or someone else.'
