Atla wormed her way between two of the thicker roots of the tree she lived beneath. She was a Kerl but wasn't much of a wanderer, keeping homes she rotated between. The most commonplace to find her was at the base of the tree she was at since it was the easiest to find of her varied homes seeing as it was the most unique. A large ancient spruce or redwood or some other tree of that sort. It stood up clear into the sky like a spire of a castle and was the only one of its kind within miles. The tree had been for a long while as the others had succumbed to nature and it was now a lone fixture. The soil beneath some roots was weathered out leaving a space beneath the tree that acted as shelter, Atla's home to be precise. The opening under the tree was a large one, enough to fit a few adult deer. It started out as soil but as you went towards the middle it faded into smooth stone in the middle of which was a puddle of fresh water from condensation on some of the roots and rainwater that leaked its way there.
The red-brown female wolf got in through her normal entrance and recentered the pelt on her back, something she always kept with her since she had stolen it from the human that tried crossing the mountain and failed spectacularly. A hungry bear seemed to have deemed him lunch, so Atla had grabbed the pelt and ran. Ever after that day the pelt was kept upon her back as her way of 'disguising' herself among the other Lyra and also according to herself, helping her catch things. Though unknown to Atla, the pelt did neither. Well except in the first few days where it smelled of human still and shocked a few unlucky squirrels into staying still wondering what they scented. Discarding the memory of the delicious squirrel, Atla lay herself upon the soft soil surrounding the stone. Soon sleep overtook her as night whittled its way through.
