Transcript for a 15-min telephone interview: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/41740

RTD is still in charge of TW and SJA, assuming they continue. He seems to think TW will get renewed, based on the ratings for the recent 5-parter (a good chunk of the interview is related to Children of the Earth). He answers a question about what he thinks happened to the pterodactyl.

Brief discussion of Planet of the Dead and Waters of Mars. Still no firm airdate for the next special, but he's thinking November (October being too soon since they still have stuff to do on it). Trailer will be shown at Comic-con.

I figured RTD was gonna stay in charge of TW and SJA. Interesting how they're complete dynamics away from one another.

I'm crossing my fingers that Series 2 of SJA is going to air in the US because it's a pretty awesome show, even for a kid's show. And my sister is pretty annoyed that she's not allowed to watch Torchwood, so she wants to have more of Sarah Jane. razz

Oh, I forgot the other bit of news from the article: it sounds like RTD has relocated to L.A. He mentions something about wanting to learn about how the entertainment industry works there.

I wonder if part of the motivation is to get some pointers on how to make a big-budget Doctor Who movie.

Well, that's all just speculation on my part. But if the BBC really does make a Doctor Who movie, I'm sure they're thinking 'well, if that new Star Trek movie can make buckets of money internationally, how can we do the same with Doctor Who?' I don't think they'll achieve that simply by making a movie that's just like the TV show, only with a bigger budget. It doesn't need to be an 'American' film, but it does need to feel epic enough that it's worth putting on the big screen. It also needs to be able to stand on its own, without requiring prior knowledge of Doctor Who, so that even non-fans can enjoy it.

It's all just talk... I doubt they'll ever really make a movie.
