I love making my own pizzas, but hate the taste of real tomatoes. Consequently I tend to use just tomato puree on the top, which just doesn't taste right, even if I use herbs and things to spice it up. I love most shop-bought pizzas so long as their tomato sauce has no lumps in it. Does anyone know a recipe for good tomato sauce which tastes like pizza should, without tasting too tomatoey?

What about using an alfredo sauce, or a pesto?

I do a lot of "white sauce pizzas" as well.
The best tip I can give you us to use paste, and spice it- or use a spegetti sauce. Hunts is pretty good.
Don't forget the garlic and the pepper flakes!
You can also work on rounding the flavor out by first roasting the tomatoes so they peal easily, then cooking them in a mushroom broth. while they are doing that, take a red bell pepper and roast that as well. Blend together until smooth and add in pepper flakes and roasted garlic.

Pizza sauce is really just like spegetti sauce, so make it just like you would a spegetti sauce, (except without the tomatos and meat)
EG:
3 cans tomato sauce 1 can tomato paste 3 tbsp itilian seasoning 2 tsp oragono 1 tsp garlic salt or garlic powder
cook all in a skillet untill it starts boiling, let simmer for 5 - 10 minutes, stiring contantly. then take off heat and put it on your pizza! ^.^

Hi, Thanks for your post, it sounds like what I am looking for. I am either being really thick, or we have a language barrier here. I am guessing that tomato paste is what I would call tomato puree, but I have no idea what tomato sauce is (well some idea in that it is probably liquidish and tomatoey, but beyond that am a bit stuck). Can you explain better what tomato sauce is? Or some kind of brand name that I can google and work out the English equivalent?
