" Mac can eat anything" Wren nodded and boasted. At least the mac'baht had never failed to eat anything it had tried so far as the young songbird knew. The boy shuffled forward, green eyes looking for new stalls that might hold something of interest.

Reuben quickly found a stall full of likely candidates for Vergil's bed and began to peruse the merchandise. He wanted something sturdy, but not too bulky, since carrying it up a ton of stairs would suck.
"That's so cool!" Vergil giggled. "I wonder if Dad would let us get a pet?"He wondered, tongue poking out of one corner of his mouth. Suddenly, his eyes widened. A stall a little to the right of him had the largest tank of fish that Vergil had ever seen in his short but eventful life. "Wren," He gasped. "Look at those fish!"

Rinali kept an eye on the boys while Reuben looked at the furniture, she and Czhichi had all the furniture they could possibly need already. It made her smile to see them amused by creatures so simple as fish. Such creatures did occasionally make neat pets but usually more for adults and even then it was usually best if they were chichlids. Most kids in her experience though got bored of fish rather fast.
Wren's looked over to see what had Vergil so excited and the songbird's green eyes soon focused on the tank and all the colourfun creatures swimming inside of it. " They've got fins like Nero." Not quite the same but sort of in a ways and Nero was a fishboy so he supposed it made sense. The oddly marked boy smiled " Too many to count." He knew there were a lot but how many he wasn't quite sure and what was a bunch of fishes called anyways.

"Alright," he said, coming to a pretty fair agreement with the seller, "that should work. Hey, Verge!" He called to his songbird, who was still paying rapt attention to the tank of fish.
Vergil didn't turn around. "Yeah?"
"Want to pick the frame out for your bed?" Reuben asked, hoping that this would at last get his attention.
The boy turned, looked at the three choices that Reuben had before him. One was very ornate with little details etched into the panels, the other looked like it was wirey, and the last one seemed plain. Vergil pointed to the first one and then turned back to watch the fish. Shrugging, but knowing that this was what he wanted, Reuben set about paying the man.
Vergil, in the meantime, was loving to watch the fishes. "Someone you know has fins?" He giggled. "Cool! Someone I know has a horn and a tail." He said this as though it were an honor to have both of them.

Wren nodded " Nero's got fins, they go all big when he's upset." The songbird spread his own wings and feathers out wide to demonstrate " We know neat people." Wren proclaimed, anyone with any oddity on their body was interesting really.

Reuben shook his head at the fish. Honestly, his kid would take an interest in anything, though, knowing Vergil, he wouldn't have suspected fish.
"Hey, Verge, you want to keep going?" He called. The songbird shook his head.
"Dad, can't we get a fish?" He looked up at Reuben pleadingly. "Please?"
Reuben looked at the tank and then looked at Vergil. He could understand wanting a dog or a cat, but wanting a fish seemed, well, less up the young songbird's alley than they would have thought. "Would you take care of a fish?"
Vergil nodded enthusiastically, head bobbing up and down. He grinned at Wren. "Wouldn't a fish be so cool? I like fins." He said, twirling on the spot and almost knocking a stack of tanks over.
Reuben looked to Rinali for some support. "What do you think about this?" He said, smile playing about his lips.

" Fish won't steal food" Beyond that Wren wasn't sure if he preferred fish as a pet or not. " and they're very pretty." That they had fins was only mildly interesting to Wren becuase he knew several people that had them, still fish were pretty neat. The boy edged slightly away from the twirling Vergil not desiring to be smacked with wings or to have tanks fall on him.
The orange haired woman looked thoughtful. " Make him wait at least a few days to be sure he's still interested." Pets were too often bought in haste especially at places like there were the whole atmosphere made you want to get one, feel like you were getting a deal on whatever you bought. " But in general fish are pretty decent starter pets." At least when they didn;t set on fire and turn into kids like Nero had.

Reuben nodded, considering. "Yeah, that does seem better than buying something on the fly." Besides, he thought, though these fish looked pretty exotic and could probably hold his kid's interest, he did want to check in with the landlord...just in case.
Vergil was blissfully unaware of his near collision. "They are pretty. I wish we could have a pet." He sighed, and kicked the ground beneath his feet a little. "Pets seem like they would be a lot of fun."

" Best to do research as well so you don't end up with some needy tropical breed that keels over the moment it's water temperature fluctuates even a single degree." Rinali had been there and done that, it wasn't worth the money.
" They are, but you have to train them." Training was very key to having a pet otherwise it just ran wild. Some like Mac though seemed resistant to training. Wren reached out to tap the tank causing the fish to scatter to the other side " They're shy." Sort of like Nero but without the explosions of fins and colour. He looked back over at Vergil and smiled " I hope you get a pet." He liked this boy and thought that if he really wanted one he should be able to get a pet. Things like permission or money or responsibility were still mostly beyond his comprehension.

Vergil's head bobbed up and down. "Yeah, I do too! I'll ask Dad!" He was sure that Reuben would see that having a pet was something much better than just the two of them living on their own. Besides, the fish reminded him of nightlights for some reason, and he couldn't see them as possibly being bad. "Dad, can we pleeeeeease get one?" He pleaded, doing his best to look deserving and capable of caring for a small creature.
Reuben had just had the thought cross his head that Rinali's plan was a good, sound one when his own child bombarded him with a request. He looked down at Vergil, and then sighed. "Do you really think that you could take care of a pet and be responsible for it?"
Vergil tilted his head at this whole 'responsibility' thing. Hmm. He turned to Wren again. "Do you have any pets?"
Reuben rolled his eyes. Oh boy. "Well," he said to Rinali, "that'll probably save me today, but I doubt that I'll ever heard the last of that idea."

"Umm kinda" Not any specifically of his own though. The tribal looking boy smiled. " Someday we can both have pets."
Rinali laughed "Oh probably not." If kids got things really well driven into their heads they often refused to let go till they got what they wanted.

Vergil nodded, though secretly pinning after the fish. Reuben had a feeling he knew what was coming next.
"Alright, Verge, we should probably get going and pick up our furniture, okay? The people are holding it for us, but we don't want to keep them too long." He said, trying to avoid Vergil staring at the fish until he gave in. Reuben had found that his kid liked to do that, kinda almost guilt him into things.
Vergil stomped his foot and sighed, though he did come and stand by Reuben, he did not seem very pleased about it. Evidently, he had really been hoping for the fish.
But, this bad temper didn't last long enough to mar his dealings with Wren. "Can we see each other again?" He asked, eyes hopeful.

Wren's eyes flicked between Vergil and his mother " Please?." He liked this other boy, would be willing to talk to him again. Plus they were sort of alike and that made Wren happy and feel comfortable around the other winged boy, it would be nice to have a friend like that.
" I don't have any objections." Rinali looked at Reuben, it was up to him now. They could always meet back up here another day for more exploring or at another neutral public place. The orange haired seraph was more than willing to drag Wren outside more often if it would help him make friends.

Reuben smiled and tore out a blank piece of paper from the back of his checkbook register. He began to write on it as he spoke. "Alright then," he said, eyes still fixed on the paper, "I'll write you out my contact information, so you can call or text me whenever you want to arrange something for these two." It did seem like a good idea to have more than one friend like Vergil for him to play with, though he seemed to really like Stas.
"I work during the day, but if you call any time after 4pm, you should be able to get me without a problem." Reuben added, handing the paper to Rinali.
Vergil laughed. "Yay! I can't wait to see you again, Wren! Let's go on an adventure." He proposed, nodding at the idea.
The two waved goodbye and Reuben began to guide his songbird over the the stall where his bedframe was waiting.

Rinali bent down and picked up Wren after tucking the paper into her pocket. She might not have gotten as much browsing done as normal but Wren had made a friend and that was far more important in the long run. " Come on little one, lets get you some food and then we can head home." She'd probably put him down for a nap after that.
"Kay, nothing spicy" Wren wasn't overly fond of food that was spicy. As his mother carried him away the young songbird shifted in her arms, keeping his eye on his disappearing friend as long as possible.
