Tinnumir Das_Naughty! What do you all think of phantom of the opera. We are doing phantom at my college and they keep comparign us to the movie. bad news! Ouch. Sucks to be compared to a movie. That's what happened last summer when a local theater here did Chicago. I wasn't in it, but I knew a lot of people who were. They were awesome. I think Phantom was incredible, but I also havn't seen the stage version. So I have nothing to compare it to, which I think is a good thing, because then my opinion wasn't biased. You see we aren't even doing the anderw lloyd weber version. There are 2 virsions and we liked this one better for our little college cuz it tells the story better. in our version you get to see what made the phantom what he is. We have flash backs and the music is just as good. it is a little more american musical then the other. Not to say i don't like the other version this one was just more apropriet for us.

PossessedByDevil WickedElphie Bombay Dreams is also in planning from what I understand. ----------------------------------- Cons- For the purpose if time and such, the original HEART of theatre is at risk to get lost in transaltion. Also, through interpritation! I mean seriously, they are adding GAY MARRIAGE to the plot line of the Rent movie. That is just ruining John Larson's original vision. It was not an issue when he was writting the music, so it never should have found it's way into the movie. Pros- It is nice to be able to watch some of our favorite shows whenever we want... legally. I totally agree with you on the Rent issue. That's going to piss me off when I see it. Maybe if we all bug Chris Columbus enough, we could get him to change it, fat chance. Hey, all the Phantomites at least got them to not cast Antonio Banderas as the Phantom in the movie. Which in my book is a total plus. There's probably a petition somewhere. I could look for one. Because if I see something in the movie that was not in the play or the book, I will be mad as hell. Rent is too beautiful to ******** up on some pollitical agenda, even if I do happen to agree with what they're saying.

I was trying to figure out exactly why the thought of adding gay marriage to the RENT movie irritated me so much...I love RENT and am a flaming liberal/san franciscan so I'm 100% in favour of gay marriage...but injecting political adjenda into RENT is just plain wrong, even if it is something I support. To me, that's not what the show's about...shoving things in your face that way. It's more subtle, I think...there are no rainbow flags and coming out parties...but has a greater effect. Meh, those are just my two cents, anyway.

John Travolta as Edna would either be immensley frightening or terribly amusing.
(But I'm leaning towards frightening! eek )
