Hehe, I often name my electronics, as well.
To me, the best way to pick the name is by the age and appearance of the item. For example, I might give a brand new computer a name that I feel reflects something more modern.

I named my 360 Sammy Davis Jr Jr but I've had 3 cats, a ps2, and a laptop with that name so it's now Skcub.
Ds is named Rats
Skcubrats.
Your car looks like it needs an 'L' name like Lita or Leo. Leonidas.

My iPhone 3GS is named Eros, which is of a Latin origin for LOVE.
My HP Mini is named Kuropi.
My iPod Touch used to be named Jasper, until I sold him.
My USB keys have the following names: Ren, Kuro, Toki.

One of my friends named his ipod 'the ship' so when he puts his music on it, it says 'the ship is syncing'... not that funny, but I laughed =/

It's a bit funny...a nice play on words, if nothing else. I personally haven't ever heard of anyone naming an electronic for that specific reason.
