Rules:
~ No posting in a test thread unless it's your test.
~ Limited to 4 posts. You can use less.
~ You have 2 weeks to finish your rp.
~ Must use the battle field type assigned to you.
~ You create a monster of your choice, unless a different rule is specified for that test.
~ Have fun!

1~Ice- Pretty simple with this one. The floor becomes solid ice. There are random chunks of ice protruding from the floor. And of course, you have little to no traction.

2~Desert- Pretty much nothing but massive sand dunes. You sink down into the sand, which slows you down a LOT. If the wind blows, the sand gets kicked up, which obscures vision.

3~Open Field- A plain grassy field with nothing on it.

4~Ocean- A mini ocean about 40 feet deep. There are five floating platforms for battlers to stand on. The plat forms bob around and it's really hard to keep your balance on them.

5~Dense Forest- The arena is packed from wall to wall with dense, tropical trees. As in any tropical jungle, there are lots of vines and other such things to get tangled up in.

6~Land of Fire- Parts of the arena floor sink away, leaving behind pits of lava. Also, pillars of fire erupt from the floor periodically.

7~Concrete- A plain concrete floor.

8~The Abyss- Near complete darkness engulfs the arena. Dark energy is abundant in this field.

9~The Sanctuary- Opposite of the Abyss. Light energy fills the arena. Its very bright!

10~No floor- The floor drops away leaving a pit filled with spikes. There are levitating platforms at varying heights, going all the way to the top of the arena. It's hard to jump from platform to platform, and trust me, you don't want to fall.
ginseku generated a random number between 1 and 10 ... 5!

And your testing environment is...
5~Dense Forest- The arena is packed from wall to wall with dense, tropical trees. As in any tropical jungle, there are lots of vines and other such things to get tangled up in.

Sophia took a deep breath as she slowly twisted the door handle to her testing room. "Please don't be an essay, please don't be an essay, please don't be an essay..." She kept mumbling under her breath in hopes that the words would act like one of her spells and become truth. She kept her eyes shut tight as she slowly made her way into the room and shut the door behind her. Suddenly, the ground beneath her feet felt different. Everything smelled different. She heard things that one should definitely not find in a normal testing classroom. Once she finally found the courage to open her eyes she almost screamed at what she saw but it was as if her vocal cords had been taken from her throat. 'How could they do this to me! Aren't there laws against these things?' She thought frantically as she gazed upon the forest before her.

"Mud, trees, rain, snakes, alligators, MUD." Sophie kept repeating the same sentence aloud for no apparent reason at all. She turned back to where the door had been but found that it was no longer there. She began banging her fists on the walls in hopes that someone would hear her and free her from what she considered 'hell'. After five minutes of banging and yelling her hands and throat became soar. Obviously, no one was coming to save her. She grudgingly turned back to the dense forest and frowned. What did they expect her to do here? What possible test could she have in this horrid place? She glanced down at her feet and the ground around it. Just as she had expected there was mud all over her brand new
ballet flats. Couldn't they have warned her about all of this? Then maybe she could have worn tennis shoes and a t-shirt instead of her new flats and one of her favorite dresses. Of course not. Had they warned her, she wouldn't have come. 'Well, at least I have shorts on under my dress. That should help, right?' She thought sarcastically. After staring at the forest before her, scanning everything and taking it all in, she decided she'd better get moving if she ever wanted to get out of the dreaded, humid, hell hole.

Within ten minutes she had stepped in more mud than she had ever known existed, seen and heard somewhere between six and twelve snakes, almost been touched my a humungous grasshopper, and torn her dress in several places. Of course, that was only a few of her misfortunes. Sophie found herself so miserable in her surroundings she could have easily found one hundred things to complain about. "Why couldn't you have put me somewhere cleaner? Somewhere cooler? Don't you have ice pit or something? Surely you do, can't I switch to that?" She yelled out into the forest in hopes that maybe a testing monitor would hear her and fill her request out of compassion or at least pity. Of course nothing changed. "But, somewhere with ice would be so much better!" She mumbled, thinking of her affinity for the element. Now completely discouraged Sophia sighed and continued trudging on unhappily.

Sophia quickly snapped her gaze to the left upon hearing a low rumbling growl come from said direction. "Hello? Is someone or something out there?" She asked softly, fearful of the fact that her mind might be slipping and she was hearing things that were not there. Yet, hopeful that it was her mind and some big ugly monster wasn't waiting in the bushes to snatch her up. After few minutes of relative silence Sophie figured it must have been her mind playing tricks and began once more making her way through the forest.

Meanwhile...

‘Its’ appearance, as seen at a glance, with the creatures back facing towards the on looker, was that of the legendary Bigfoot. Nothing too frightening about a hairy, eight foot tall, ape-looking, monster, right? But, once the on looker gazed upon the face of this beast their opinion would quickly change. 'It' had a face that could strike fear and disgust in even the most brave and strong willed men of today's society. 'It's' skin was of rough, leather looking, texture. Completely charcoal black with bright red eyes. 'It's' nose was that of a dogs and had the most disgusting slime-like residue sliding out of it. The most frightening part of the creature was 'it's' teeth. 'It' had an under bite that stuck out at least an inch and a half with canines the size of normal persons finger. These canines were razor sharp.
And, at the moment, covered in the blood of the monster's present meal.

At the sound of Sophia's screaming and banging the creature jerked 'it's' head up from the poor animal 'it' had been devouring. Angered that someone who didn't belong there was in 'it's' territory and endlessly hungry the creature decided to scout out the location of whom ever was making all the noise. 'It' saw the young woman and immediately thought of her as prey. But, 'it' would take it's time with this one. The girl might be able to fight back more than the other animals it was used to hunting. So, quietly and carefully the beast followed Sophie through trees, bushes, and other plant life. The girl was definitely odd and made noises the creature simply could not understand which frustrated the creature greatly, making 'it' let out a small growl. The girl must have heard 'it' because she turned towards where the creature had been stealthily hiding. After a few moments she turned away, obviously not seeing 'it', and began walking again. Once more she was shadowed by the beast.

Sophie had to admit; a lot of the flowers in the forest were quite beautiful. They came in an array of colors, shapes, and sizes. She saw a tree with small hot pink blossoms covering almost every inch of its branches. Vines with purple flowers that had pointed petals. They seemed frightening yet beautiful all at the same time. It was rather fascinating. The place she had been taken to was actually amazing if you excluded all of the mud, odd animals and insects, humidity, and a few other discomforts here and there. She could hear the harsh sounds of some unknown birds calling to one another in the distance and the hushed roar of what must be a water fall flowing nearby. There were so many enormous trees, so tall their tops were almost unseen. The heat and humidity were taking their toll on Sophie's attire though. Her make-up was undoubtedly ruined; her mascara run all over her eyes. Her hair was curling up to make her resemble the beloved Shirley Temple. With shoes caked in mud, or so she hoped, and a dress with a hem torn to shreds she probably would have chosen some of the most horrid forms of torture over letting anyone see her like she was. Especially the lovely Devante to who was slowly drifting his way into her thoughts. "Oh!" Sophie gasped at the sight of a small humming bird sipping nectar from a blue cone shaped blossom. It was barely a foot away from her yet it seemed completely oblivious of her presence. Oh, how she wished she could cup the little bird in her hands and look at it from a closer view. But, she knew better. Sophie didn't even dare move in fear that the little bird would quickly fly away in fear. After a few short moments the little bird began to move on into the distance until Sophie could no longer see it.

. . .

The monster was completely confused by this odd female. Why was she so awed by the flowers? Had she never seen food before? Then the girl made a sudden noise that alarmed the beast. Had she discovered 'its' hiding place? But, the girl did not turn in the direction of the bushes 'it' was hiding in but turned her head in the opposite direction towards what the beast considered a small desert. The tiny bird the girl was dazzled by was something the beast thought of as a delicacy because it is far too hard to catch. Then the monster realized something. Now was 'it's' chance! The girl was distracted with the tiny creature. 'It' could sneak up on her from behind and take her down much more easily. 'It' quickly sprang to ‘its’ enormous feet and stampeded out of the bushes in the direction of the girl just as the small bird disappeared from sight.

. . .

Sophie jumped and quickly turned around at the sound of the bushes being greatly disheveled. She gave a piercing scream that came from the deepest depth of her lungs. She had never been so frightened in her life. The creature, no monster, which was bounding towards her, was hideous beyond compare. The sounds that came from it sent ice cold chills down her spine. Snarls, growls, and gurgles from the back of it's blood covered throat and the pit of ‘its’ hungry stomach. She had no time to think, to act, before the beast was on her; pushing her to the ground. The beast quickly made a lung for her throat with 'its' massive canine but Sophie caught it by the shoulders and pushed back with all of her strength. 'It' was terribly strong and her push didn't do much but make it a bit more disgruntled and frustrated. As if by some incredible miracle a protection spell came to Sophie's mind. "A circle of trust, as strong as the bonds of family. I call on the powers of the white witches, come and protect me." It wasn't one of the strongest she could use but it would suffice for the moment. A bright white light enveloped the two; baffling the monster as it was thrown backwards and into the trunk of a large Kapok tree. Sophie quickly took the chance and struggled to her feet before taking off at a full sprint.

Sophie knew she couldn't out run the beast; 'its' legs alone were almost as tall as she was. She had to figure out something else to do. But, what? She didn't even know where she was going! Slowly but surely the sound of rushing water had been getting louder and louder. She must be getting closer to the water fall. After few more seconds she burst through the trees to find the most beautiful sight she had ever seen. The fall itself must have been at least two hundred and fifty feet tall. The water fell majestically onto the rocks below with so much natural power it made the small, young, girl feel as important as a speck of dust. The sun shone on the misty battle between earth and water in just the perfect way as to make little rainbows flicker in and out of sight. There were vines, flowers, and other plant life so perfectly placed around the water fall it seemed as if Mother Nature herself had carefully placed each and everyone. For a moment, just a small little moment, Sophie stood there trying to take it all in. But, it was impossible. The sight was so beautiful it would take hours of exploring and gazing to truly understand the magnificence of what was before her. Her magical moment was quickly disturbed by the low grunting sounds of the monster following her. Sophie quickly glanced around her; there had to be somewhere she could hide. She looked and looked but it seemed all in vain...but, wait. What was that it seemed like there was an opening of some sort behind the fall itself. Sophie gave it no second thoughts and immediately took off for the hidden cave. She was soaked as she carefully made her way into the entrance but she no longer cared; this was matter of life and death. Sophie ran to the back of the cave and hid in a small corner pressed against the wall. After a few minutes her heart beat began to slow down and she became calmer. Maybe 'it' had given up. Maybe 'it' couldn't find her. Sophie sighed in relief and let head fall gently against the stone wall behind her. Maybe she had passed the test and they were going to save her soon. As she waited for a few moments she let her thoughts wander. Would they really let me die here? Isn't this against the law; putting a student in danger. Then again, maybe none of this is truly real and I'm not technically in any real danger. Suddenly Sophie felt something slither around her left wrist then another round her right ankle. What was it!? She timidly glanced down at her wrist before quickly bringing her right hand up to her mouth to muffle her scream of the word, "SNAKE!".

. . .

The beast yelled as some unknown powers pushed 'it' off of 'its' latest meal. What had that power been? Befuddled and dazed the beast slowly sat up and glanced around. It took a moment or two for 'it' to gain a sense of what was going on. Where had the girl gone! With a grunt the beast was up and running; chasing viciously after the girl's scent. She was heading towards the water fall; surely it would be easy to catch her there. Though the beast was one of the ugliest things in existence it had the grace and elegance one finds when one watches the majestic lioness chasing after her prey. 'It' knew every inch of the jungle and avoided all obstacles with ease. After a few mere minutes 'it' was at the very spot the girl had once stood. But, the beast did not appreciate the beauty of 'its' home as the girl did. 'It' stood at the entrance to the cave. Her scent was gone but that was probably where she was; was 'it' really going to risk going into what 'it' knew was a dangerous cave filled with snakes? Having the slightly low IQ that the monster did, 'it' quickly rushed into the cave after Sophie.

Sophie was at a complete loss. Everything was going wrong. She had no idea how to escape the monster that was after her and she definitely didn't know what to do about the snakes on her. They could bite her any second; what if they were poisonous? Wait! That was it! Sophie quickly brought her nails across the snake on her wrist and then the one on her ankle. Seconds later the snakes fell off wriggling in pain. That solved one problem, but she still had that 'ugly thing' on her trail. She closed her eyes and let her memory drift back to her lessons with her grandmother.

"Sophie-mei! If you don't stop ignoring me you'll spend the rest of the week alone in your room. Child, fighting is not the only source of protection. One day you'll encounter something too big and too bad for your little self to take on and you're going to need your magic. Now pay attention!" Sophie rolled her eyes and looked back at her Grandmother. "Yes ma'am." She mumbled though she had no true intentions of really paying attention."

Sophie smiled at the memory. She had driven her Grandmother crazy during those few years when she thought demons were better than witches and refused to pay any attention to her Grandmother's lessons. But, what had she been teaching her that day? Something about when you can't beat something alone you always have....what was it? Family, sisters? Something like that. That when she needed them her parents were never truly gone from her. She just had to call on them. 'I should have paid more attention to those damn lessons.' Sophie thought regretfully when she suddenly heard the grunts of the beast once more. It had found her. Why couldn't she hurry up and remember that spell! Moments later, the monster stood before her with something like a triumphant smile on ‘its’ distorted facial features. Sophie felt fear grip her hear with an iron fist as she realized she just might die in her 'exam.' The beast lunged after Sophie and had her pressed against the wall as it began biting for her neck once more. She didn't have the strength to hold it off. She would need to use both of her parents to solve this. Trust in white and dark magic; it wouldn't be easy. Sophie never used them together unless it was for emergencies. Light and dark magic weren't meant to be mixed; big, bad, things happened. So, she lengthened her nails into claws; this came from her demonic father. Then with all her might she pressed them into the beasts flesh. The beast roared in pain pushed harder against her. Sophie could feel 'its' blood rushing out and flowing over her fingers as she let her poison flow into 'its' veins. The beast slowly began to lose 'its' strength. 'Now!' Sophie thought as she called upon her Mother and Grandmother's magic to aid her in her spell. "From darkness to light. Aid me in my fight. Not to kill but to change for the better. A monster no longer helping this beast, together!" Sophie quickly said the spell. The words more or less were made up but the magic behind it was very real. A bright white light once more enveloped the strugglers and moved the beast from Sophie. She quickly wrapped her finger around her own neck to make sure no damage had been done before watching in awe as her spell worked. One could not see much inside the floating light, but Sophie knew what was happening and it made her smile. Moments later the light vanished and left behind a beautiful white wolf in its place.

"I won't become a monster. Therefore, I will not kill you. I'd like to believe you were simply a misunderstood creature. You were only protecting your territory, right? So I will hold nothing against you. You are beautiful now. I have done something nice for you I only ask that you do something in return for me. Let me live and leave me be and I'll be out of here before you know it. Okay?" She asked with a gentle smile towards the wolf that was now looking at her curiously. With a small canine nod the wolf leapt to its feet and left the cave. With a sigh Sophie left the cave herself and walked back through the beautiful forest. She took the time to appreciate each and every flower, vine, tree, and animal. It was a magnificent place. Soon she arrived once more to the wall through which she entered; please to see the door now returned. She turned the handle and proudly walked through the door and into the hallway. 'Finished' She thought with a grin. "Hello, how was your exam?" Asked one of the monitors sent to check on her after her test. Sophie said nothing as she took the woman’s hand and placed something small and scaly in it. Then she walked away, her grin never leaving her face, and giggled as she heard the woman scream. "Snake!"

Scoring:
A- 85 credits
B- 75 credits
C- 65 credits
D- 45 credits
F- 20 credits

Length and Pacing: The length of each of your posts was about the same, and the pacing was perfect. You made sure to have an even amount of action in each post, and end each on with a little cliff hanger.

General grammar rules: Your grammar is nearly impeccable! Good job!

Personality: You made sure that your character's personality was easily seen. And I liked how your delved into Sophie's past a little. I can see how you'll be slowly revealing more about your RPC as you continue on.

Use of Environment: Perfect. You described the environment beautifully and explained in great detail exactly how it hindered or helped you.

Details: I love the way you described everything! I don't think we've ever had anyone put that much detail into their testing area before. Absolutely astonishing!

I'm giving you an A, or 85 credits. You did a remarkable job for a first time tester. Congratulations! ^^
PostPosted: Sat Aug 01, 2009 8:14 pm

Length and Pacing: The length was equal, but honestly, thinking on it, it seems like a slightly short sequence of events. It's all very, very well described and personalized around your character, which is good, but..It feels to me that you could've added a bit more in terms of the actual fight.(The first post and a half is exploring and introduction, your character used a whole post to hide and run and scamper.) Good job though!

General grammar rules: 'Your grammar is nearly impeccable! Good job!'
Agree

Personality: Your character had dimension and emotions, you showed that she had a distaste for the arena she was given(SNAKE!)
nice job here

Use of Environment: As I said, you did well in describing your environment and character

Details: you used tons, good job here too

I'm gonna agree with Ryu on her grading, because for a first time tester, you did very well in covering the criteria and providing an interesting story. Just work a bit on battle skills for me before you return to a testing arena, I'm really interested in seeing what Sophie can do when she cuts loose a bit. ^o^;

Grade 1=85
Grade 2=85
Final grade= 85
