"There's a boy kind?" Brianna snickered. Boys were super gross. She didn't ever plan on having one for a friend, so 'amiga' was good enough. "Yay, we're amigas!"
Since they were going to be learning it anyways, the orca girl listened closely to Mariel's question, trying to file away the words. "That sounded like 'visit'." she piped up, pleased to have caught that. "And...oh. I gotta ask...Dad?" The word came with some difficulty. She still wasn't sure what to call Quinton. Maybe Mariel would have some ideas, since she'd had to get used to a new parent.
A sensitive ear tuned in on their conversation upon hearing the word Dad. Huh. She'd never said that before. What were they talking about? Something about visits. Quinton raised his voice, eyes still tightly shut against the glare. "Need something?"
Brianna held up a finger for Mariel and Luna - one second! - and bounded over to the potted plant. She wished her guardian would stop being stupid and come out to say hello, but this wasn't the time to kick up a fuss about it. "Q-Daddy?" She waited until the tabby had slitted open an eye before continuing in her special sweet-as-sugar voice. "Do ya think we could visit Mariel n her momma sometime? Sometime soon?" she wheedled, fingers crossed behind her back.
'Who?' Oh, the little swimming girl. "Sure, but--"
His next sentence was drowned out in a squeal. Brianna launched herself at his neck for a hug, then hurtled across the room to hug Mariel too. Quinton blinked, seeing stars for a moment. Then he very carefully shook his head, eased himself out of his chair and followed. He was nervous about talking to Luna, but if the girls were going to be friends, it had to happen sooner or later.
"--but we'll have to talk about when." he said when Bree had stopped shouting. They had a very busy schedule. He smiled faintly at Luna, anxiety evident in the set of his ears, and offered a hand. "We didn't get introduced before. I'm, uh, Brianna's...parent...thing. Quinton. Hi."

Mariel squeaked half out of excitement and half out of surprise when bree came vaulting at her for a hug. mariel of course hugged her back and caught onto her excitement, squealing and jabbering about things they could go do. "We can go swim, and play, and I have doggies I can teach you to tell them to sit in spanish...and...and" She was excited that was certain. Mariels tail swished back and forth happily and her ears perked right up and she waited to hear what the adults would say.
Luna held out her hand and took Quintons hand and gave it a good shake. So this was the father figure who was absent, she had seen him earlier in front of her in line. She had half a mind to ask where he'd been, but he did look a little meek judging by his ears, mariel had the same kind so she had learned to roughly read what they meant. She had to admit though she was kind of amused by how off balance briana had sent this man by calling her dad. Did he not refer to himself as her parent, they were definately a strange little family indeed.
"Hola, I am Luna Mariel's mami. I Guess Our ninas want to play at de 'ouse, wat a fun time." She said with a smile trying to at the very least let him know that bree didnt just invite herself over. Luna knew how some kids did that leaving an akward situation for their parents. But Luna was okay with other kids coming over, especially if they were girls, boys not so much. mariel was young but she didnt want to encourage any bad habits to quickly.

"Doggies!!" It was a good thing Mariel was keeping an ear on the adults' conversation, because Brianna was too bouncy to hear a blessed thing. Oh boy oh boy they had doggies!! There were obvious reasons as to why her house didn't have a dog, which was a real shame. Now, though, she could share with Mariel!
Quinton tried a smile in return. It twitched at the corners when the headache struck again, but it was there. This wasn't terrible...
"Mucho gusto, I think?" He scratched behind an ear, hoping that was the right phrase. "Er, the 'I think' is because I'm not sure...it was supposed to be "pleased to meet you" in any case - it's nice to meet you, Luna!" Brianna had obviously learned her tendency to babble from somewhere, and it wasn't the labs.
He had never really thought about what to do if Brianna had ever wanted friends over, or vice versa. To be perfectly truthful, Quin had almost forgotten that other people had those things called social lives, and had certaintly never imagined Bree having one. Just from their brief conversation it sounded like Luna and little Mariel had done this before, so he decided to defer to their expert judgement. "So it's okay with you?" he asked. "I don't know when we'd be free, but we could exchange numbers or something and figure it out."

Mariel swiveled one ear towards the adults as she continued to be excited with Bree. It gave her a kind of funny appearance since one of her ears seemed to be its own little satelite while the rest of her body was still focused on Bree. But of course mariel had no idea that she looked funny, she always swiveled her ears around when she wanted to hear better, she thought everyone could do it. "Yeah they are BIG doggies, but they dont bite, just jump. We can make them dance!" The dogs Mariel had back home were indeed big, both half great dane and the other half.....well they were mutts for sure but both absolutely LOVED attention and thus were generally well behaved as long as they were included in a game. One of mariels favorite games was to make the dog stand up and dance even though she was only about half their size when they stood the dogs tended to do their best not to smash her under their weight.
Luna made the "oh yeah!" face and swung her purse around to dig out a piece of paper and a pen. She didnt mind the mans babbling too much, it was rather funny and she couldnt hide the smile from her face. It was adorable that the father had tried to speak Spanish to her. "Sure I geeve ju mai numero and ju can call whenever ju have tiem. Mariel ees always at de 'ome teel she starts escuela." She started to tell the father as she continued to dig around in her purse, she had found a pad of paper and was fighting to keep hold to a pen that was tangled in her keyes. "ah que la...chingaderas llaves..." Se muttered words of annoyance at the keys keeping hold of the pen until she wrestled it free.
She then wrote her name, with Mariel in paranthesis, and her house number in slanted relatively readable letters/numbers. With a smile and a sigh Luna handed Quinton the piece of paper and realized that she hadnt told them what days her and Mariel were free! "Oh I hab a unreliable yob but I always 'ave Viernes...er...." She thought for a second trying to remember her days of the week in English. She looked at mariel and noticed the ear in her direction, "Mija que dia de la cemana es el Viernes?" She asked Mariel to translate.
Mariel looked at her mami when she heard the question and with a smile offered "Quieres que yo lo digo que dia podemos jugar?" Mariel offered to translate, she knew Lunas schedual as well as her mother did because of the way it always changed. At a nod from Luna Mariel looked at Bree 'Be right back!" and hopped in between the adults. "Mami says that we are home all day every Friday, but sometimes other days of the week to. She cleans houses so we arent home for sure anytime but Friday except if you call first we might be!" Mariel of course said it a bit jumbled since she was excited and of course still a child but the basic message was there. She smiled up at both adults waiting.
Luna nodded with a "I'm sorry" smile. She was secretly glad that she had mariel to translate (if a bit jumbled) in these situations but at the same time she felt like it made her lazy to learn more english. "Ja what she said." Luna agreed to make sure Quinton wouldnt think mariel was just making up a schedule.

Her happy jumping about ended when her tail started hitting the receptionist's desk, rattling the pens and paper clips in their cups. Bree fielded a glare from the receptionist and backed away, starting to bounce when she was at a safe distance again. "You're so lucky, Mariel! Can you really make em dance?" She was excited to see the dogs, but even Bree wasn't so sure she wanted to try dancing with them - if they were BIG doggies, wouldn't they end up being squished?
When the paper came his way, Quinton did his best to put their information down legibly, including both his cell and house numbers. He started to nibble on the back of the pen, trying to conjure up his own schedule, before he realized it was Luna's pen he was putting holes in. "Er, sorry." he mumbled and tried to clean it off on his sweater sleeve.
Bree started to listen in when Mariel joined the two grownups, idly playing with the loose ends of her hair. She was still grinning like a loon. Her first real playdate!
Now what days were they free? Quin studied Luna and Mariel's address. He usually wasn't far from there during the week - it was weekends that were the real killer. "Friday sounds like a good day." he agreed, once Mariel had translated for her mother. "And any other day of the week if we plan it ahead of time. My job is pretty flexible."
He scrawled down something to that effect and gingerly tore off Luna's information, handing the rest of the paper back. He looked at the pen, now pockmarked and full of sweater fuzz. "I think I owe you a new pen."

Luna shrugged good naturedly at Quinton when he talked abouot owing her a new pen. "Eet's okay, no worries." She assured him that she had tons of pens back home. She loved buying that $5 bag of pens from the grocery store and so tended to go through them pretty quickly anyway. One thing that she did raise an amused eyebrow at were the holes he had put in the pen with so little effort...those must be sharp teeth he had. She glanced at her watch and gave a look outside. "Mija eets getting late..." She let herself trail off and gave Maraiel one of those looks that you cant argue with.
She then looked at Bree "Eet was nice to meet ju and jur fader." She turned to Quinton "Any Viernes would be good. No worries I return jur nina in one piece. Te lo prometo." She essentially just promised to return the girls in one piece and gave Quinton a smile and a wink in good natured teasing. She was like that afterall and of course the girls would not be harmed, but this man seemed so nervous she was half curious as to what his reaction would be.
Mariel made the obligatory groan that meant she didnt want to go home when really she was excited that she was going to meet up with Bree again real soon! She looked up at Luna in a way that asked for a second before jumping over to her friend from her place with the adults. She opened her arms in a gesture that was just asking for a hug. "See you sooooon!" she said more as a statement than a question as she sang the last note. She couldnt wait until they would meet again, it was going to be FUN! Her tail swished around behind her clearly showing her happy excitement and of course her want of a hug made her look alot more friendly to!

Bree echoed Mariel's groan, except perhaps it was a little more heartfelt - she really didn't want to go home! There were chickens and mud and chores there. She threw herself into Mariel's hug. "I'll miss you!" she promised. "Don't go lookin for swimming cats without me, ok?" They had to go find the swimming cats together, after all.
"If you're sure." Quinton said uncertaintly, pocketing the abused pen. Bree was giving him puppy eyes over Mariel's shoulder but he ignored her, instead giving a wide smile at Luna's promise, a smile that said he was in on the joke. It wasn't true. The tip of his tail twitched, once again betraying his misgivings to the world. She was kidding...right?
Her silent pleas ignored, Brianna at last detached herself from the otter girl with a sigh. She smiled at Mariel and turned to give Luna a polite little curtsy. "It was nice meetin you too, Mariel's mommy. I can't wait to meet your doggies and stuff!"
The tail twitched again. Dogs? Maybe they were dangerous or something. Maybe she'd sent little girls home in pieces before. "Ookay, well, we'd better get going now." He quickly gathered Bree's homework together - as well as the scattered contents of his wallet - before ushering his charge out the door. "Talk to you soon!"
"BYE MARIEL!" Brianna hollered even as she was dragged out into the parking lot.
