I'm trumpet section leader at my high school and I'm having trouble getting two of my incoming freshmen to stay in band. Both want to quit trumpet, one because he wants to play something else (call him Bill) and the other because band 'just isn't his thing' (call him Fred). Bill played I don't know how long ago for about a month and Fred has playing the last two years except the last 2 months. Our band has enough colour gaurdies and percussion players, but is desperately short on wind players.
Please help me convince them to stay with trumpet, give me any and all ammo I can throw at them to come to sectionals and get into playing again. Please be a little serious though. No suggesting I go to their house and stab them in the face.

Well, a sure fire way to get people excited about playing is a really good song. If they like the song, most likely they will love to play it.

first, try the new song, great idea by the way, magic
then try nagging
then try ignoring them at first they'll be like "FINALLY" then they'll start to wonder then they maay try to contact you

Tell them about the lonly Friday nights they will experience. Home games they'll be walking the track like those other losers. Away games they'll sit at home all sad and bored. that's asumeing that your talking about marching band or somthing. Just talk about all the inside jokes and all the stuff you plan to do in the future with therest of the section. Maybe they'll start to miss it. If they really don't want to though, maybe it'll be better for the band if they left...
