The real appeal of Magnetic Island is that it has heaps of these GORGEOUS bays. The photos really can't convey how beautiful they are. The rocks and hoop pines which frame every bay are so picturesque.

This isn't a great photo, but it sort of gives you an idea of what it's like to sit on these beaches. The bays are all quite small, so you feel really sheltered by the arms of the bay. And a lot of them had these lovely big trees just off the sand, rather than scrub, so you could actually sit in the shade, but still on the sand.

Here's just a couple more photos of our favourite bay, Florence Bay. If you can see the darker bits in the water, they were actually fringe reefs. We went snorkelling and actually saw a lot of really good fish. Like, ones you might see on the Barrier Reef. Those flat bright yellow ones and stripey zebra ones, for example. >.> I also saw a couple of stingrays. biggrin

We went on a half hour walk to this beach, it was a fair bit of work, anyway. Then on the sign at the beach, someone had written in texta 'nude beach'. We didn't really believe it, until we got there and actually saw about 5 nude people. rofl The tiny red circle on right of this picture is one of them. Regardless, it was a beautiful beach and so we went swimming anyway - but in our bathing suits.
