This is a thread for discussion on managing roleplay events and metaplots. On whether or not your shop should be roleplay required. How much RP is need for what. And of course obtaining the almighty Elder stages that shops advertise as RP available only.

RP gains are bs. RP is supposed to be for fun, like playing a board game, not to earn things like a job would. Roleplay events, however, are not bs. They are awesome, because it's like encouraging roleplay without making people count their sentences OR sounding like a total moron. Elder stages should be given out from shop activity imo.

I run an RP required shop and it actually works very, very well. What I found is that giving people a good amount of time to do however much they want before disturbing them works the best. My first req was once a month, but a month tends to be a very short amount of time for people. When it was changed to once every 2 months, I no longer had complaints, and by 2 months, people who couldn't make the requirement were well ready to accept that they couldn't manage an RP required pet.
I also give MANy options. A lot of people only like thread RP. A lot like forum RP. Others like journal RP. Even more like live RP. I gave all 4 options myself, but even just 2 helps someone who can only post that one single time.

Different sets of activity requirements seem to work well for different shops. Being flexible is certainly a plus, but I like the idea of having things that are obtainable only through RP.
It works rather well at Aerithe, only activity is required for breeding, but our Elders are tied to RP due to the fact they gain special abilities, which are chosen and developed with shop staff through RP sessions with the prospective Elders.

I am more for semi-RP requirement. For ML, if the pet has two stages, it'll get there through time, but anymore than that and you have to participate in roleplay events and other things to earn heart pieces to make them grow. I find this works best for me, but of course I can't say the same for others. :3
Doing such a thing requires inventories to be kept, so that might pose an issue if you are understaffed.
