Corbin's Log:

I found it today and I have to say that this was a rather strang discovery for this part of the swamp. As far as I knew there was only one dragon that roamed in this area and it was an older Male, no females as far as I know anywhere close by. Strange day... I have been watching the creature for a few hours now and I am pretty sure that its a half breed of some sort and no doubt abandoned from the looks of it. Its pretty well deformed from what I can see... its got mismatched arms and mismatched legs the latter of which seem to cause it some problems given it seems to have a hard time in walking. Passed that it has a long tail, wings, and one horn all similar to the Black Dragon breed which I will admit caused my skin to crawl... that breed of dragons has to be one of the worst around. They are foul tempered, ugly, and they spit acid... I find myself wondering what I should do with the little whelp. The most humane thing seems to be to put it down since it doesn't seem as though its going to be able to take care of itself given its mutations.

I don't think I could bring myself to do so though after all it isn't the job of one of my profession to interfere with the natural process. I am just here to observe though I will admit it was only birds that I had come to seek out but this is far more interesting. I will have to be careful so the little beast doesn't hear me as I speak into this tape recorder, no telling what his intelligence level might be. Dragons can be rather bright creatures after all and the last thing I want to do is insult it and get spat on given that the Black Dragon Familiar are rather violent creatures with the ability to spit acid about. Not that I know if this one will be able to do that given its only a half breed.

Hey look at that, the thing is up on its feet... kind of pathetic watching it hobble about on those legs. One of them is a normal human leg from the looks of it while the other is more like the back leg of its dragon half. The knees don't seem to bend the same way and its moving about rather awkwardly only one to two steps at a time before it falls over into a heap. If I had to guess its the fact that the little beast can't get around very well and seems stuck somewhere between being a human and a dragon that its mother abandoned it here to starve to death in this swamp... though it still seems quite odd to me. Perhaps the male dragon that roamed this swamp got himself a human mate? I suppose if I were the mother that gave birth to something like... well that I wouldn't be to eager to keep it either. No good can come of a baby with Black Dragon blood in its veins that's for certain.

Heh, thing seems rather determined if nothing else, keeps trying to get back up on its feet. Hmm... I just noticed its hands, seems that it only has three fingers on either hand. Normal for a dragon's forefoot I figure but the human hand is missing a finger as well... His neck seems a bit longer then it should too... not to mention that strange, half sunken in eye which is most definitely a Black Dragon trait. The most ugly of their traits as it always looked to me as though their skin and eyes were sinking into their faces giving them a skeletal look. They look a bit like something out a zombie movie its a damn shame this brat isn't a Gold or Silver, those dragons at least are beautiful and majestic.

Well either way this thing is far more interesting to observe then birds, I can watch those things any day I think i will follow this creature about until it succumbs to its fate and then I guess I will return to my bird watching. Watch those nature freaks flip out when my report on this thing come to light, they will label me a monster no doubt for not feeding the little freak... oh well, I'd like to see one of them hand feed a Black Dragon. ahahahahahahaha...

~ The first entry trails off midway through him laughing at his own joke.

Corbin's Log:

I have to admit that I am rather... in awe of the ugly little beast. It would seem as though it has determination that is pushing its body to respond to commands that I never thought it would be able to complete. I suppose being desperate and being hungry can get one to do things that normally they can't accomplish. The most surprising thing even passed it walking around in its awkward manner is that the little monster is feeding itself. Only small things that I've seen thus far like frogs and even small fish that have been foolish enough to come up to the shallows of the swamp. I was certain that it would already be dead by now and yet there it is, still on its mismatch feet and feeding itself.

It does make be curious as to what the brat might become capable of in the future, I think that I might keep my eyes on him for a while longer and see if I can't make an interesting study out of the little freak of nature and if I am lucky... or would it be unlucky? Either way perhaps I can figure out what happen to its parents... I feel sorry for whatever poor fool of a woman got herself in a 'relationship' of that manner with a Black Dragon.

My money is on the Father kicking the brat out of the nest after having eaten the mother. I mean seriously who wants to keep a kid that ugly around? I know I sure as hell wouldn't want... Ah, hey... look at that, its glaring at me. I bet it isn't happy with all the nicknames I am giving it... well, no. That is giving it to much credit, stupid thing probably thinks that I am going to steal its frog or something because I am bigger and scarier. I'm gonna scare the thing off, I don't want it getting that close to me with that look in its eyes...

~ Second Entry ends with the sound of Corbin stomping toward the dracling, scaring it off through intimidation.

Corbin's Log:

Do dragons have growth spurts? I find myself wondering as I left for a few days to get some supplies, come back, and the little beast that I have been was watching looks as though it went from what I would describe as the size of a human toddler to that of a human child. I use the word human rather loosely though... so I come back to my camp to find it in ruins, my eating utensils are missing, it seems as though the creature is starting in on that hording thing that his Father's kind does. Its a strange sort of thing to steal though, a fork, spoon, and a knife aren't really worth much of anything if you ask me. It does make me wonder what the brat is gonna do with them. Just horde them or is he gonna actually try to use them to eat? Its a curious thought so I think that I will keep an eye on him for a while longer. The only reason I am bothering to do so is I have someone somewhat interested in him and his story. I'd rather be studying birds... What a huge damn pain.

Ah, hey... look at that... ahahaha... stupid thing is trying to fly. The size of his wings, the build of his misshapen body... I don't see him getting off the ground any time soon but I somehow thing that perhaps its an animalistic drive. Humans are intelligent and from what I have heard dragons are as well, it would seem such things skipped a generation with this one...

...

...

...

Yeah... that worked really well didn't it? Those mismatched legs are always going to drag this creature down but I will admit to being a little impressed, I really thought the brat was going to curl up and die not long after it was born. Somehow its kept alive for as long as this. Now don't think that this is me getting foolish or weak, I am not. Its just a beast and I am just working on a documentary, nothing more. At least the beast will be making me some money to make up for the brat crashing my camp.

~ There is a rather displeased sort of snarling sound, one tinged with a bit of pain

Grand... I think it finally hurt himself... not that its much of a surprise... I am not going to step in, this is nature after all. Hrm... its gone limping off, makes me wonder really where that creature stays, where it lives... no doubt it found a hole in he ground somewhere to hide in. I will wait a while and see if it comes back, don't know... depends on how bad the injury was.

Corbin's Log:

A few days have passed already and no signs of the ugly little beast, I am starting to think that perhaps it did injure itself greatly enough that it wasn't able to bounce back from it. Rather pathetic little thing but at least I got in a lot of recorded information, took a few photos, and a bit of video when the thing decided to do something interesting. It will be worth at least a bit of money, hopefully enough to cover this excursion. I must say the useless little thing survived for a lot longer then I believed it would. It was misshapen, abandoned by whatever poor sap had to birth it, and yet it seemed to go on for at least a time. It was able to learn what life was through doing, it was more then most abandoned brats are able to do on their own.

Lets see I will need a good ending for this... how to make it sound dramatic, something like...

And as you see the majestic beast has fallen to Natures first rule, that the strong survive while the weak perish... yeah, something like that will work I believe. I think I am going to start to pack up camp now.

~ There is the sound of trudging footsteps moving in an unknown direction, presumably back to wherever camp is located.

What in the... Hell! Hey! Get away from that you little b*****d!

~ There is the sound of a familiar snarl in the background, that of the dragon that Corbin had been dealing with for some time, just never this close. The tape recorder is dropped and hits the ground while footsteps and yelling occurs as the man tries to chase the dragon off and out of his things that he was digging through. A short time later he returns to fetch the fallen recorder.

Damn it, little brat... I guess that means ir isn't dead, it was just waiting for his chance to strike. It stole a few things from among my stuff though what that mutant is going to do with it is beyond me. I can't say I like the fact that he stole my fork since I used that damn thing to eat but the ugly could have take worse things I suppose. I wonder if this means I should wait around a bit longer, to record it and see what its up to now that the brat is back on its mismatched feet. I was looking forward to wrapping this up and getting back to civilization but... I will give it a little longer.

I am thinking it would be would interesting to capture the little freak, bring him back so a few of my buddies can study it. We could always set up a cage to keep it in, treat it like the animal that it is and that way I can make my money back by charging saps to come look at the little monster. Its tempting.

~ There is a chuckle as the tap recorder is clicked off.

Corbin's Log:

Damn freak has been moving around a lot of late, getting more daring in its attacks on my camp and each time the creature attacks it takes something. Its starting to grate on me, what is it that the ugly thing is plotting? All hours of the night and day as well, knocks things over, breaks things, making it hard for me to get any sleep at all. Doesn't that beast ever sleep? Its starting to really get to me... I feel groggy all day and I am starting to think its some devious plot... that little brat is trying to chase me off...

I swear if these random attacks don't stop soon I am going to do what is necessary which means stepping out from behind my normal 'don't interfere with nature' stance and kick the crap out of that little pain in the... damn hes back...

~ The tape recorder shuts off as Corbin rushes forward to once more chase off the half dragon from his camp which is sounds as though the beast is once more raiding and knocking into disorder.

Corbin's Log:

~ The recorder is recording, first its a strange group of loud, muffled sounds... slamming, splashing, and a lot of snarling, and the sounds of struggling. It sounds as though it wasn't purposefully turned on, instead it was turned on because it was knocked over and landed just right or so it would appear.

Get off me of me you piece of...

~ Corbin's words are broken off by a scream. There is the sound of growling that is muffled, as though the beast is growling around something, presumable Corbin's flesh given there is the sound of struggling, tearing, more cries of pain. The sounds of the attack become louder and more savage, as though the many months of name calling and abuse from the human have finally become to much for the beast. The sounds coming from Corbin himself sound as though they are getting weak, weaker cries, less struggling, gurgling, and then those sounds seem to trail off completely.

The sound from the dragon seem to get worse though, louder snarling, roars, and anger as it appear as though nothing he'd so far done to the human hadn't even taken an edge off of his pent up rage. Everything from when he was born and subsequently abandoned until this very moment, his run ins with this human, the only contact he had with something of greater intelligence then food, it had all finally gotten to be to much. The torture of the man by keeping him awake at all hours, breaking things, and otherwise being a bother hadn't been enough... and now this.

No... no be... dead... yet...

~ The misshapen dragon seemed a bit desperate and angry, he hadn't wanted to kill him... he wanted to hurt him, get back at him for making him angry... for calling him so many name, chasing him around, throwing things... he wanted to give him pain and yet... now that he was a bloody mess.

There was the sounds of the dragon getting up to knock things over once more, smashing everything he could get his clawed foot on. The last sound the tap recorder gathered was the smashing sound of the foot coming down upon it, destroying...

Aftermath

By the time anyone realized that Corbin was missing it was already far to late. There were a total of three people who came in to where his camp was laying in shambles, everything seemed as though it had been methodically broken by someone with a violent temper and a lot of time on their hands. The food was laying spread out in the sun to rot but even that smell couldn't cover the scent of the other thing left behind in a mess, that thing being Corbin. Those that found him in were in shock, finding themselves uncertain as to what exactly had transpired. Something had attacked him, something that seemed to be lacking when it came to any sort of mercy from the looks of things.

It was only luck, pure and simple, that the tapes made by the naturalist had been found intact. They were likely to small to be bothered with though the shelf that they had been sitting on had been knocked over and smashed. The men gathered the tapes to put them away into one of the packs before setting to work at cleaning up the mess. The trash was gathered all together and burned, the rancid food was buried, and Corbin... they seemed a bit uncertain as to what they should do with him. Transporting his body back in the condition that it was in wouldn't be something done that easily. They debated for a short time before they set to digging a good sized hole to put him into. They would be able to come back for him later but until then they couldn't just leave him here for the animals.

The clean up only took a handful of days before the trio of men were heading out. It was only on the drive back that they realized the danger that they had actually been in, listening to the tapes and hearing described what the creature was that had been around the camp, what it looked like, what it was capable of. The three seemed rather in shock as they listened to the last entry, the one in which they were actually able to hear in gory detail what had happened to the naturalist... something that they rather wished they hadn't heard but seemed unable to turn it off. It was like a train wreck, impossible to look away no matter horrible it was.

Whatever was lurking out in the swamplands was violently dangerous, had a horrible attitude, and had systematically tormented Corbin before finally finishing him off. When they got home it seemed a debate that had people torn on what to do. There were some who labeled the creature as 'an animal that tasted blood' which had them wanting it to be put down. It was dangerous and it was violent, it was only going to hurt more people if it was allowed to remain living. There were others that argued that Corbin had described it had being partly human, that it had intelligence, could even speak to a degree. If they were to put something like that down it would be nothing short of murder, the creature had to be caught and tried for his crimes but they couldn't kill him out right. Then there was a third group, those that said the creature should just be left alone. He was described as being of Black Dragon descent and as such that alone spoke volumes for what the guy was capable of.

Nobody seemed able to really decide upon what they wanted to do with the beast so instead of any sort of decision being made it seemed instead that they were going to argue themselves blue in the face. It was exactly what they did too, there were several sessions where the dragon creature seemed to be the most important issue until something else closer to home came up for debate. The fate of the creature was put onto the back burner and finally forgotten, just some paperwork that was never signed and never decided upon... there would always be something more important that was brought to their attention, things more urgent, and nothing more seen of the creature for enough time that it became a dead issue.

Due to the antisocial behavior found in that sort of dragon the creature had been left to do as he wished... and what he wished to do was sulk, wallow in his anger, and plot for the future. He'd taken care of one person that had made his life Hell... and there was a second person, a woman, that he also wanted to get his claws on.
