Is America really as great as we think we are? Sure we don't have alarmingly high amounts of poverty, and our country isn't divided... but let's really think. The United States is regarded as a super power... yes, but maybe in the time of war. Internal issues affect America everyday. Granted the US cannot be perfect, we sure try to buid up the image that we are. America uses other countries to build up its economy... and what are the affects of other countries? Ha. Look at the problem of oil. 60% of our oil is from foreign means - middle eastern by the way. We have already seen what has happened when we have problems with the Middle East. Bye bye oil supply. And what are we left with? Raised gas prices. What about education? Or should I say lack of. Our education system is by no means up to par. Look at school in Europe. They push you while ours... Government funding and our tax money goes to "Operation freedom Iraq" or whatever... can we solve our problems first before we go tryingg to "fix" others? Wait.. what happened to the weapons of mass destruction? Don't pretend like we don't have enough to create a nuclear war and wipe of the whole continent of Europe. Our government has more corruption - conservatives, liberals. They all find the best ways to benefit them. Whatever happened to the good of the people. Let's make budget cuts in the welfare department... oh wait. They already did. And then they worry about the crime rate... What about the big business scandals. It keeps the rich, rich... which influence or lovely government, and the poor, poor. I mean, the rich don't want their tax money going into welfare systems, do they?
Sorry about jumping around so much... and I hope I made some sense...

We may have alot of problems, but it is the land of the free. Lot's of people complain about the gas prices but in other countries not alot of people have cars to even spend oil on. America is at a bad point, and yes I will blame George Bush because it's basically his war, but sooner it will get better. I also think America is more open than most countries about interracial couples...((my opinion)) I think it is bad that medicare is very hard to get and we are at war, but you can't blame that all on the president. I mean the people of America voted him in office...twice. ((I made no sense, weird))

I mean the people of America voted him in office...twice. ((I made no sense, weird)) I didn't blame it all on Bush..? Congress plays a part too. And we had problems even before he got in office. And for the votes... The first year he was elected, the popular vote was in favor of Gore, but since Bush won the large states that he did, the electoral college decided the president. Not the people of America. I also said that there isn't alarmingly high amounts of poverty either... but since you talk about people not being able to afford cars, people here can't either. A prime example being some of the Louisiana natives. Why do you think there were so many people still in New Orleans? Lack of cars? Or maybe high gas prices... oh wait. Or maybe they ran out... And how free are we really? I'm not saying that the government should let us run wild but how are they to tell you what you can and can not do with unborn children? Lord knows since the welfare program's budget was cut, we don't need anymore poverty stricken family's with forced upon unwanted children. As for interracial couples, I think Canada beats us in that... and France... but hey...

America doesn't really like difference, do they? rolleyes [Maybe "we" [America] just don't like like opposition. We regard ourselves as the greatest country in the world because of how our rights (human and legal) are protected; the way we can be wasteful and splurge and use disposable things; because we are a huge melting pot where people come from all over the world, from all walks of life; and when people come here, they often do it for more freedom, more money and better quality of life. We are a huge country that could really be several countries, but somehow we have held it together for a long time. We can unite for a common good and help each other. Our government tries (to some extent) to help us if we are poor. But also, like a parent, expects us to go ahead and get on our feet and handle our own eventually.
America has problems, sure. Dozens of us have died so far in countless wars abroad and in our own streets. Our kids are overweight and addicted to brightly-lit screens big and small. We can be frivolous and insensitive when we're away from home [visiting in other countries]. Some of us seem to worship the wealthy. Some of us squander our money. The rich stay rich and the poor stay poor, despite our best efforts to make things equal. Speaking of equality, there are still places in America that white people fear to go; likewise there are places black people wouldn't want to set foot in.
This is America, land of the great, the bad and the ugly. This is my home. And like any home, there are things I wish I could improve. Maybe they will improve over time, perhaps they won't. I still think my home is the best one on the block.]
