So, which Final Fantasy do you think had the best storyline? My vote is for Final Fantasy 7, I thought it was deep and moving.

It's probably pretty obvious that I'd say Final Fantasy IV, but I'd give FFVI as a very close second. Final Fantasy IV actually did have some very unexpected twists and turns to the storyline, each character showed their personality extremely well (and their skills in battle and occupations even brought aspects of their personalities home completely), and the symbolism and atmosphere were simply amazing. A lot of games out there don't even care about atmosphere, they just give you characters, locations, music, a battle system, etc, and assume it'll all work out. The dynamics for characters was simply amazing, and I definitely consider Cecil's trial from Dark Knight to Paladin as infinitely better than this Cloud versus Sephiroth stuff that everyone goes nuts about. Not only is Cecil fighting the way someone influenced him in the past ("king" of Baron telling him to become a Dark Knight), he's also fighting the dark nature he has within himself down to the core, something he's had all his life and that nobody could have possibly planted inside him.
Oh, and even minor details about the game is explained. You're not left to wonder about technological advancements like the airship or how summons and magic work, the game actually tells you outright. The summons aren't just unknown creatures of great power, we find out where they come from. Not only that, we get to see them in their natural habitat and how their lives are when you're not calling them to kill some enemy for you. The other games, save for FFVI, are just like "hey, you can summon monsters using blah blah blah, but you don't need to know anything else about them." Materia crystallizes but we don't know why a creature appears from it, Yuna can summon Fayth but we don't know who they were before they chose to become Fayth (aside from Anima), etc.

I'm only using VII+, because I know them best, but I personally liked IX's. Besides the fact that I liked the story itself, it even had a happy ending. I love happy endings. VII's is very, very good, but as I knew bits and pieces before I even played, from my brother, it was even more confusing than normal, and when, for example, Aeris died, it didn't mean much; I knew it was going to happen.

I really liked 6 for the exact same reasons though. They really went in depth which each character, giving them all some real meaning a depth. It allowed you to really connect with the character instead of just knowing about them and playing along. You got an actual stroyline for each character basically! Plus, noone was truly the 'main character', Terra and Celes were pretty major since the first is pretty based around Terra finding herself, and the second world is mostly Celes finding everyone again. So it's just something more interesting than *big shocker here* Aeris died... sorry, just saying. but yes *nods* i most certainly agree... 6 rocks ur socks

Hard to say, considering the reason I love the series so much involves the storylines. I really enjoyed FFX but FF7 and FF8 are simply classic. 3nodding
