Movie: Paranormal Activity
Rating: 8.5/10
Synopsis: A couple just moved into their new home. Micah, the boyfriend, and Katie, the girlfriend who has been haunted by a demon since she was eight years old. All her life strange things have happened, the worse being her entire building being burned to the ground. The firemen never found a cause. Now she is studying to be a teacher and getting on with her life. The only problem is the demon. It's come back with a vengeance. To help his girlfriend out, Micah buys a video camera (not your cheap hand held one, either) and video tapes everything that goes on during the night, and during the day. Documenting the problem will help solve it, at least in Micah's mind. It starts off with your usual door opening and creaky house noises. Suddenly it's not funny anymore, the events and noises become more frequent. Then again, last time I checked, screaming, biting and loud explosions aren't exactly 'normal' house noises...
Review: Filmed documentary style, it has more than just creepy sticks and stones in the Blair Witch Project. It comes with special effects that are simple, yet extremely effective, and there is a sense of doom in the movie that just can't be shaken. What really got me while watching it, is knowing that no matter what happens in the movie, that demon isn't going to leave and can't be shooed away. It's there to stay.
