Vera watched in fascination as Bell (her tiny, hatchling firelizard) chased his namesake across the table. That had not been her intent when she had taken the baby flitter down to the kitchen. She was fairly sure that feeding was important, and all of that, but then the bell had fallen out of her elaborate hair arrangement, and chaos had ensued. "Now now, Bell. No need to destroy it..." Or the table it was rolling across, in point of fact. "Cut that out. You're getting claw marks onto the table." But it was so fun to watch.
She was having a good deal of trouble holding in her laughter as the flit gave her an indignant cheep. "Krrraaaaw!" the Blue declared, sitting up on his haunches and surveying her with a self important air. "Yes, yes, it's all about you. I quite understand. Now, if you will only behave yourself for just a moment, I'll be able to get one of the kitchen staff to get you some food. How does that sound, my fine young fellow?" "Kraaw!" Vera decided to take that as an agreement.
For such a small firelizard, he certainly made quite a bit of noise. Okay, perhaps he wasn't tiny as she had asserted earlier. He was, without question, larger than her cousin's Green flit. Not that that was hard. "Settle," she admonished, noticing that Bell was beginning to eye her speculatively. Was she hiding his breakfast (or lunch, or dinner) in her hair? The bell had been in her hair. ... He watched her, and waited. It would reveal itself in time.

What on Pern was making such a racket at this time of night? K'em had simply come down for a mug of klah; he couldn't really sleep. It wouldn't do to keep W'ten up, not while he was feeling under the weather, so the brownrider had slipped out of his weyr as quietly as he could. He wasn't really in the mood to go on the prowl, so the wingsecond decided on a little midnight snack. He hadn't expected to come across the loudest little firelizard in existence.
Amused, K'em approached the small blue and his woman. The young man instantly pulled on his ten-million-mark smile and ran a hand through his unruly hair, offering the pretty young lady his most charming smile. "Now, what're you doing up at such a strange hour?" he asked, bright eyes dancing as he admired the lovely pair. "Surely this charming fellow isn't keeping you up?" He glanced down at the firelizard and grinned.
"Small. Is he young?"

Hmmn. How irregular. Usually when attractive young men came and paid Vera visits Xeran arrived just in time to give them threatening looks and ridiculous speeches. She waited expectantly for a moment before Bell made a demanding sound, creeling at her. "Yes, I'm afraid that he is keeping me awake. But I was feeling restless anyway." It was entirely possible that she was feeling restless because of her flit's hunger.
"I might ask the same of you," she pointed out, lifting her hatchling firelizard up off of the table, and his bell with him. "He's maybe a sevenday out of the egg," Vera said in answer, holding the Blue in her hand. "Kraaaw!" Bell shrieked, and she put a finger to his little nose. "Shhh. Do you know where I can find meat for my firelizard?" she asked, glancing up at K'em.
She'd never seen the man before, and that no surprise. Xeran had a habit of scaring away any remotely young men as soon as he saw them lingering nearby. She had, perhaps, managed to exchange pleasantries with one dragonrider before now. Bell spied the bell, and pounced it, shaking it to 'kill' it, bewildered when doing so did not snap its 'neck'.

"Who, me?" The smile remained firmly intact. "I just couldn't sleep. I was hungry."
Perhaps if you ate when everyone else did...
K'em ignored the irritated voice rolling through his head like thunder. He would eat, he really would, but seemed to have adverse reactions to many of the things Ista had to offer. The wingsecond usually stuck to bread and redfruit. It was not, as imagined, particularly filling. This, however, need not be explained to the charming young lady he suddenly found himself in the company of.
"Hmm? Something for him?" Easy as pie. "Just give me a moment."
K'em slunk over to the nearest drudge (they always seemed to be up at impossible hours, getting ready for tomorrow's meal) and switched gears, swapping from 'friendly charm' to 'smarm'. It worked (obviously) and in a matter of moments, the brownrider had a small plateful of meat chunks for the baby firelizard. Swaggering back to Vera, he offered up his prize to the Harper and smiled.
"This will do, I hope?"
