The woman in that picture has on her stomach "Property of the U.S. Government?" and you know I was thinking: that's rather true.

Are we not at the mercy of our respectful governments?

"No. I can just leave if i'm unhappy."

And what if they bar off the borders?

"..."

Exactly.

As sad as it is you really are one with your law-creating body. That is, they control you. Our freedoms are what they allows us to do. You can call them God-given or government-given but either way they are alotted to us by the government. They can take them away. Is it cruel? Could be.

People like to imagine they are there own person and that it's "Their choice, their body," but it's a bit of a rude wakeup call to find out what you are allowed to do is by the grace of those who role over you. Think about it.

Drafting if mandatory correct? Correct. Paying taxes is mandatory correct? Yes. You have to commit to other federal services (jury duty, some countries have made voting mandatory). In England, as a minor, you are only allowed to work for so many hours a day, even if you willing to work till your death bed. In Denmark you have to pay for services that you may not need in the next twenty years or in your life time (they're socialist, so i've heard). Many countries also impose laws not even spoken. In China what law exists that you cannot have two girls? None. But it's a cultural disgrace, one the government has not stopped, so therefore, isn't that as good as saying you can't? It is.

Face it, we are at their mercy. Why even fight it? You can'y live in anarchy nor can we live in this is false idea of absolute freedom (I believe it was John Locke who wrote about that... something along those lines).

I think that whenever they flash what the definition of an abortion is we should gently remind them (if it comes up) that a government is "The act or process of governing, especially the control and administration of public policy in a political unit."

True, true. We're not completely free, and if we were, there would be disaster. Why do they keep thinking that everyone gets exactly what they want, no matter what happens as a result of their actions?

Agreed.

And this is the reason why democracy is one of the best forms of government. If the government takes too many freedoms you can vote them out. The only problem with that is if the government gets too big it can do a lot of harm and eventually people may vote away all their freedoms without even realizing it.

I agree with karllikespies. The United States government is one that allows so many freedoms, but truely we aren't fully free. We need some laws and some rules to abide by for those freedoms we do have, to stay free.

We're actualy a republic...atleast we were meant to be, but now the people are so docile about using their voice that the government is slowly tackign over and we will soon be a comunism.

Exactly, at least if the Democrat party regains control, no offense to anyone who is liberal.

Several times I've been driven to say let the liberals have the reins of the country. Let them have controle, let them steer us towards damnation. (I think the will in the end...) and then let them, for only God knows how many years, say that in our damnation there is nothing wrong, let them continuiously lie to themselves untill their throughts dry up, crack open, and bleed. I think only then will they realise their problems

It was only 100 years ago, I beilive, that democrats and republicans faught for the same things. But the only diffrence is that they wanted to do it two diffrent ways.

Actually, I think we're moving towards socialism. Not that I enjoy that either. Socialistic thing are taken advantage of already. The Republicans and the Democrats are working for the same thing...themselves. Which party is left that actually cares about all people, as opposed to just themselves? I can't think of one. People are becoming too party-oriented. "I"m voting for him because I'm a Republican/Democrat/Chevowoackian"

People need to grow brains and think for themselves, and not let their parties think for them.

That being said, if we weren't citizens, there would be chaos. People don't obey the law when there is law, so why the heck would they be inspired to suddenly obey it if there is none? Should child abuse be legal because it already happens anyway? That's a ridiculous thought. So is the notion that we are completely independant. There is a consequence for every action. It's the nature of the world. Some are bad, some are good, but the only way to be completely independant would be if you were never affeceted by those consequences. If we were completely independant, we'd have no laws. wonderful, eh?
