Personality:
Jiora is a rather reserved person. She never makes the first move in social gatherings, not that she goes to them very often. No; she's the sort to linger near the back of the room hoping to be overlooked by the rest of the party-goers. She enjoys spending time by herself or with her son and, had she anyone she considered a friend, her friends. Still, she doesn't think of herself as having friends - she simply has aquaintances.
Even Jaclyn, a girl she's known since she was a child, is no longer granted the title of friend. Jiora allows the girl to live with her out of a sense of social obligation - she couldn't simply leave the teen to fend for herself in Gaia. She knows how hard it is living alone in this world. She was homeless herself before Lady Kairin took her in. This isn't to say that she feels no affection for Jaclyn though. Jiora does view her as a younger, rather irritating sibling, but younger, irritating siblings are not the same as friends.
She's a difficult person to get close to. Her tendency is to believe that people in general are either idiots, or cruel, with only the very rare good soul in the lot. Whenever she is drawn into a social situation she often assumes the worst about people. She won't neccesarily voice this opinion, though it does give her a strong habit of looking down on people regardless of who they may be. She tends to be fairly well-spoken and puts up a front of being calm in most situations no matter what her inner emotions may be.
Background:
Jiora's past is a bit on the vague side. It is known that she appeared one day not too far from Jaclyn's house. She was only twelve or so at the time and had nearly no recollection of who she was, aside from her name. Jaclyn's family took her in, not wanting her to have to live in the foster system. She remained with them for roughly three years, and nothing of note happened until she simply vanished one day. Literally. She had been walking home from school with Jaclyn and another friend of theirs by the name of Joeseph. One moment Jiora was walking alongside them, and in the next moment she was simply gone.
She's not quite sure what happened then, but she awoke on the edge of a forest. Several hours were spent wandering aimlessly and calling in vain for her friends. She was eventually picked up by an elderly woman on horseback who seemed quite concerned as to why the girl was wandering the woods so late into the evening - especially alone! Her concern only grew when Jiora fainted from a combination of exhaustion and a mild case of hypothermia.
The woman took Jiora to her estate and cared for her, eventually revealing that her name was Lady Kairin when the girl was well enough to ask for it. Further questioning on Jiora's part revealed that she was no longer on any sort of Earth and was instead in a place called Gaia. The two of them searched for a way to return Jiora to her home, though their search never came to any fruition. Jiora wound up remaining at Lady Kairin's estate until the woman finally died of old age when Jiora had just turned nineteen. She was preparing to leave in search of a place of her own when the deceased woman's lawyer practically accosted her, telling her that she was mentioned in the will.
As it turned out, Lady Kairin had been an old, lonely woman with no family to speak of. She'd grown quite attached to Jiora over the years and left nearly everything she owned to the girl, aside from a small amount (in comparison to what Jiora recieved) that was given to a few charities. Jiora has continued to live at the main estate ever since.

Personality
Cyrus is a rather skittish teen. He's very relaxed around people he knows well, such as his friends Bronwen and Angie, but he's prone to becoming quite nervous around strangers, particularly males, though this does seem to be fading now that he's grown. He's very suspicious of people he doesn't know and generally refuses to be of much help to them, convinced that they're likely out to get him. Usually, he simply makes himself scarce or lingers very near to a friend or family member when someone he doesn't know is about. When that isn't possible, he becomes rather nervous and quiet until he's certain things are safe.
He's a generally docile boy though. He's never once lashed out at another in anger or fear - he probably hasn't even considered harming another person at this point in his life. He's quite eager to make those he knows happy and will generally fulfill most requests asked of him.
Cyrus has a great love for water and all things associated with it - aside from anything icey. His collection of koi numbers over thirty at the moment and is growing steadily. He even eventually hopes to own a sea monster, though he's not quite sure what he'd do with one should he ever attain this goal. There is no swimming pool on his mother's land, but there is a spring at the top of a nearby hill that he frequents almost daily in the warmer months.
The boy absolutely detests the cold. He finds snow to be nothing more than an irritation and avoids going out in it at all costs, and he hates the look and feel of ice. It probably doesn't help that fish can't life in solid ice. He's quite concerned about his koi now that it's getting colder and has convinced his mother to buy a heater for their pond to keep it from freezing over and killing them.
He's rather partial to music, so long as it's of the soothing sort. His particular favorites are classical and soft jazz. Despite his dislike of loud music, he loves the game Dance Dance Revolution. For him, the physical activity of the game is what draws him. He enjoys beating the levels, even if the music is less than pleasant to him. He also enjoys other video games, using them as a sort of stress relief when life gets to be a bit too much for him.
Powers
Cyrus has minor magical abilities, primarily in the elements of water darkness. He's not terribly powerful by any stretch of the imagination though. The most he can do are a few simple parlor tricks - the most impressive of which involves carting one of his fish around in a floating orb of water. Purely entertainment value only. He's had no training with dark magic yet, and it's unknown how well he'll be able to function with it.
He also has an innate ability to shapeshift, a power inherited by both his parents. The exact limitations of his shapeshifting are a mystery at the moment as he's had no training and hasn't exhibited any signs of it just yet.
