The setting of the duel was that of a some-what small Arena, only a mile in diameter. Just your basic Gladiator Arena, but instead of Melee, the battle will be a Wizards Duel, meaning casting only. Nothing to hide behind, although depending on the position's of the two duelist, they may not be able to see eachother. The two dueling are Errtu and Torment, the rules had been set before the fight, and aggreed upon by both parties. Rules no weapons, no flight, no harming the crowd, no lethal effects (this is easy as most wizards can simply switch spells to non-lethal), counterspells are encouraged, and counterspells CAN be counterspelled in some instances (if a spell is loosed too quickly to be countered and the other tries to counter), and no anti-magic fields. ===================== Errtu stood on the far side of the entrance to the Arena, his Dragon Whelp flying around in small loops overhead, puffing playfull rings of smoke over his master. The Mage didn't have his two weapons with him, loosing some of his counter magics just by not having them around, but in thier place, small runes in a pouch on his belt, bronzed like his Robe, served as a quick counter, as well as rejuventation potions to his other side, always good to be prepared.

Torment stepped out into the light, and the crowd went absolutely nuts. Where he usually had a blazing set of wings at the start of the fight, he had none for this wizzard's duel. A staff half his height with a semicircle on the upper portion made entirely of what seemed to be blue flame given solid form was held tightly in his left hand and an ice blue trident just large enough to fit in one's hand was hanging from a loop on his belt.
His attire was the norm, and as he began a slow pace towards the center his eyes flashed and a hand raised to the crowd, thrusting the Fist of Forgotten Sin into the air, causing another roar of cheers from the crowd. Of the five pyramidal diamonds on the semicircle the second began to glow a brilliant blue as a specific type of counterspell began to blaze within the artifact, amplified by the focus it was receiving by the Fist, its primary purpose.

Errtu made no attempt to please the crowed, didn't care to anyhow. His little pet may go out of his way to do something, it was how he was. Stretching out his limbs and loosening up his joints.
Seeing his oponent had a large staff, Errtu would follow suite, only having it matiralize in his hand in a large flash of golden light, the gems along the shaft glowed slightly as Errtu fused the staff with energys to aid in quick counters. A short display of the staff, and he was ready to start.
Errtu began casting his first counter, and although the Whelp was still flying around, he was readying himself for combat. He finaly stopped and flapped in his place, taking in increasingly longer breaths.
Both members of Errtu's team were ready.

Magical energies seemed to leap up around Torment as he dashed forward, sending both arms out wide. His opponents were still quite some distance away, which was to his benefit, seeing as most spells would need time to traverse the distance. With a few arcane syllables he slammed his fists together, the FoFS blazing with grey light as a volley of ten missiles blasted outwards. It was the most basic spell in the book, Magic Missile. Knowing Torment, however, the simple spell had been twisted and contorted beyond all reason, infused with dark magic to consume spell energies and split in order to produce a second casting, the FoFS providing a burst of magical energies in order to quicken the casting beyond hope of a direct counterspell.

Errtu looked at the spell for a second, trying to figure out what kind of Mage he was up to. Then it registered, no doubt some off branch magic missile crafted much stronger than it should have been. But, Errtu not know how his oponent worked wanted to play it safe until he could make stronger decisions on how to deal with this Caster. A single word brought up a Divine Shield, around his Whelp to, no use letting something hurt him so early in the fight, and let them connect.
The small Dragon wanted to go out and fight, but knowing his master, he waited with him, although fidgeting constantly.

The glow seemed to fade from the second pyramidal diamond on the FoFS and pass to a ruby on one side of the short staff that began to flare with a blue light, making it seem purple. Slowly the pyramid began to take on another glow, shifting between many shades of blue at once. Torment, meanwhile, was not at all happy as a clam, noting his first volley simply absorb into the shield and pass from existance. In his hands a swirling orb of pure magical force gathered as he continued to close on his opponent. The force exploded over him in the form of an Armor of the Archmagi.

Errtu saw the missile's disapear and let down the shield, then let the small Whelp do his thing, flapping his wings once, considerably hard for something its size, and kicking up a huge sand storm, the Dragon's favorite condition. The Dragons eye's glazed and his disapeared from sight, no magic used in the disapearance, only that of his inherite abilities passed down from his elders. With the Dragon gone, only Errtu was left, although knowing what was in store.
Errtu quickly put up a simple but effective single spell counter, only enough to hold against one attack, but being as simple as it was, the ability to replace it is almost non-existant, although to many at once would take a toll. Errtu held his staff up and muttered some word and one of the gem, an emerald one, flare and the staff glowed, making him visable even if Torment wasn't able to see past the storm.
The storm itself would have no negative effect on either, save maybe the ocasional bit of pestering of the weak layers of dirt falling out of the gale.
(And Tor, with that, I need to catch some sleep, mom is going to wake me up in two hours.

((A note to the readers. All spells are to be noted as attempts, and Mage Duels are interupt style. Some spells have quickened states allowing them to bypass counterspelling unless one is ready at hand, but otherwise are attempts that can be responded to before completion, cutting the post relating to that short. If there are more sections to the post, those may or may not be nixxed based on wording.))
The second counterspell fell away and reformed in a ruby on the opposite side of the staff, and still Torment ran. His left arm raised to act as a shield in the storm, the right coming forward with the index finger raised, slowly spinning just below eye level. With a last shout of an arcane syllable associated with illusions Torment seemed to warp and distort, splitting into twelve Magi all darting directly for Errtu. Each deflected sands, touched the ground, and even gave off the scent of the illusionary master. In all ways but Arcane might and intelligence, they were the real Torment.

(Stop switching characters, I swear you're the one going to make me color blind.)
Errtu could barely see into the storm, but he could see enough due to his being with the Dragonling for as many years as he had been, he was able to see a good distance. Errtu knew the hyper Whelp would do his job now, so he would leave it to him, just keeping keeping his defense up.
And that's what the Whelp did, almost right after Torment split, the Whelp apeared next to all the Torment's, though what he did was no magic, he traveled the stream of time and gathered a handful of himself throughout time, some being smaller, some being twice his size, though they would be able to beat Torment themselves, or at least weaken him to the point Errtu would have a comparitivly easier match against him.
Each dragon inhaled a deep breath, then spewed sand at all of the Torment's, the spell would slow them to a complete halt, and it would allow Errtu to be able to figure out which was the Real Torment and get rid of the Illusions.
At the Dragon's intake of breath, the sandstorm up and died, nothing left of it for anyone to shield themselves against.

((Pfft, bite me sir ^_^))
Torment's advance slowed to a crawl, and finally a dead stop. The sands struck each of the twelve the same, and slowed them just the same. As noted, they seemed to be the real deal in all respects, and unless some anti-illusionary or dispelling magic was applied, it would stay that way
Each of the Magi that stood within the onslaught brought their arms up in unison to cross above their heads, screaming out arcane syllables as the FoFS of each blazed with light and flames errupted from their back. Two of the Images pulsed for a moment and passed from existance, consumed to help fuel the spell. Arcane might flowed through each of them, rising up and erupting in a blast of hurricane force winds charged with weak electrical currents and dark magic as each thrust their arms out wide as if such a motion created the winds. Not only would the sands be blown away, to an extent where such a tactic would be difficult to recreate, but the dragons would have a hard time doing much but fleeing.

(Although the sand was suposed to make you imobile, I guess I won't complain. Even if it was just to put you back on the same level as me(despell joor lacky's). ;o)
Errtu twiched, a strong foe indeed.
All but one of the Dragons disapeared, and that one sought out it's master as quickly as it could, which was even quicker in normal eyes, the Dragon was practicly set on 'Fast Forward'. Errtu motioned for his pet to take control of the Barrier, which he did, so that he would be able to cast a counter-illusionary spell on those who wern't the real deal. Slowly he began the cast, knowing that his Bronze Friend would hold up the attacks, if they even came, unless Errtu could counter spell all of them.
A few seconds passed and Errtu's eye's flashed a deep green color, and then his Staff, where the emerald gem was embedeed into the magical wood, took on the same glow. The gems were not that of natural minerals, but that of magic, having created them late in his training, and stregnthing them as time wen't on. And with the Staff's glow, the simple spell that was prepared would be powered more than ten times it's origanal power, just enough to smite each Illusion with a counter, and hopefull end thier presence. And with that, he cast, sending a chain to each of the Mages infront of him, and if it hit the real one, maybe it would despell something he had ready to cast, as it was powered with extra fuel.

The winds continued to rage around Torment, doing little but creating a nice wind wall against incoming fliers and nonmagical projectiles, the latter of which were banned anyhow, so it mattered little. Being the Archmage that he was, Torment could identify the most basic types of spells, if not exact spells as they were. Beyond this, spells to dispell other magic were unique in their own right, and this, of course, could not be allowed. Each of the Torments thrust their FoFS forward and a pulse of blue light passed outward, focusing on the incoming chain and unraveling it as it passed back, coming apart at the seams all the way back to Errtu.
While the left arm was thrust forward to unleash one of the two counterpsells held within the Fists arcane energies began to gather around the right hands as ancient syllables were uttered from the Archmagi's lips. Even as the blue light began to fade from the Ruby in which the counterspell was contained the second pyramidal diamond began to glow once more. The spout of flames from Torments' backs seemed to be diminishing with each spell cast.

(Hurray for four day's without a post. ;D)
Errtu figured on being countered, so it didn't suprise him.
But, knowing that so long as more than one Torment was around, he wouldn't be able to land a solid blow, or anything for that matter. So for now, his only objective was to remove all of the images. Leaving the shield up to his Whelping, Errtu closed his eyes and tapped into his magical abilites to try and find the real Torment, and with the real one found, he could attempt to despell them all.
(Meh.. Counters aren't what I made Errtu for.. ><)

As Errtu attempted to divine which Torment was the genuine article, he would find his attempts in vain, they had all been giving similar auras as Torment, though a few did seem weaker than the rest. Unknown to Errtu, one of these weaker ones was actually Torment.
The Torments continue chanting their spell and unleash a tidal wave of transparent energy. Half way to Errtu it will seem to fail, sputtering out for a moment before continuing towards him, though all the power seemed drained away, in an attempt to wash over him and the dragon whelp, though no immediate effects would be felt. In reality, however, it would slowly transmute Errtu's aura so that any spells affecting himself, such as a shield, potion, or other likewise enhancement, would either begin to fail, or create a reciprocal feedback loop to damage the mage.
