Erigin lay curled up comfortably in bed, muted golden rays of sunlight streamed in through the window to fall across the sleeping woman's skin and warmed it. Minutes ticked by and as the dark haired Seraph's chest rose and fell in peaceful slumber the shadows protecting her eyes from the encroaching light were slowly driven back. Eri tired to squeeze her eyes shut tighter and wrinkled her nose in displeasure when she was forced awake by the brightness on her eyelids." Lam we need better curtains' she complained. Predictably her blonde lover gave no response used to the early morning fussing from Erigin until she'd full woken up. That or the other woman was still asleep and couldn't hear her.

The angel sighed, rubbed the sleep from her eyes and slid out of bed. There was no point trying to go back to sleep especially since the grounds would start getting noisy in about fifteen minutes as people flooded onto them. Instead Eri pulled on a worn blue terrycloth robe and padded out into the hallway headed towards the kitchen. Coffee, everything would be better once she had some coffee in her, it might be pathetic but Erigin was simply one of those people who didn't function well in the mornings without caffeine in her.

A short while later the woman made her way outside still wearing her robe and a steaming mug of coffee in her left hand. The mail would be there by now and it was always fun for Eri to snicker over the daily comics at the back of the newspaper while letting her morning grogginess fade away. She opened the mailbox with her free hand and furrowed her brows in confusion as she pulled out not just the paper but also a brown paper package addressed to her. Who was sending her mail here already? The package was flipped over but there was no return address, the heck?

Shaking her head but not overly concerned Erigin headed back into the house, it wasn't as if she actually had enemies to look out for or anything like that. This was probably from Merrill or one of the other Seraph's on the CDL grounds and they'd slipped it into her mailbox earlier this morning. Although why any of them were sending her stuff she'd no clue. With a confused sigh the woman placed the paper, package and her mug down on the table before taking seat. She tucked a stray strand of hair back behind her ear then proceeded to open the mysterious package.

The immortals quartet? Four books stacked atop each other now lay on the wooden kitchen table. Someone had sent her books? No note with them either. Again Erigin shook her head, probably Tal just trying to welcome her to the community, though why he'd picked what look liked books for a teenager she'd never know. At least the cover art was appealing and a quick skim of the back revealed what seemed like an interesting plot. The books were a gift and something to read in her spare time if nothing else. Heck she could probably talk Lam into reading them as well just so they could discuss them later.

Putting the books out of her mind for now Eri went back to sipping at her coffee and flipping through the daily paper. predictably it was just moments later when a black cloud of mist that sparked with white lightning formed over the books. "What in the hells? " Erigin hissed and backed away from the table dropping her cup in the process. The shattered ceramic shards and hot coffee on the floor were however a hell of a lot less important that what was happening on the kitchen table. Eri couldn't even seen the books anymore or most of the surface of the table due to the ever expanding thick mist cloud and lightning phenomenon taking place there.

" Lam get your a** up now." Eri herself wasn't good with this sort of thing and had no idea how to protect herself if something seriously dangerous happened which was why she was still steadily backing away from the table while keeping an eye on it. Lam on the other hand was trained to fight and usually fearless at that, unlikely to freeze no matter what happened. Erigin had never been more greatfull her lover was the strength in their relationship. This was just damn weird.

Of course the moment the words left her mouth the cloud dissipated with one last flash of bright white lightning and sound oddly reminiscent of wings flapping. Strange as that was the blue eyed woman was more concerned about the fact that while the magic cloud was now gone it had left behind a small bewildered looking child.

The small one had dark skin, dark hair and clothing the songwriter couldn't place. His soft brown eyes were wide with fear and darted about the room nervously.

" Lam" Eri's voice was a bit more urgent this time, this was going to require both of them to handle.

Erigin chewed on the tip of her pen again before she finally collected her thoughts and the Seraph was able to put pen to paper. Paper that filled a binder/ scrapbook type thing that she was using to keep track of life now that Varian was in it. Sort of like a baby book only more advanced since the boy was not quite that young. Part journal and part other she was also adding in pertinent photographs, samples of Varian's handwriting and the like. Hopefully the boy would appreciate it when he was older

It's been just over two weeks since Varian came into our lives, Lam sleeping through it of course. Regardless the point is he came from a group of books that appeared randomly in the mail that day and he's been here as mine and Lam's adoptive child ever since. It's been a bit weird adjusting to it all to be honest, Varian's a good child but you just don't expect children to pop out of books or I didn't anyways.

I wasn't expecting or ready to be a parent yet and now I've suddenly been swept up into it with a kid who can already walk and talk even if he is rather quiet and still. Except when jugging he gets this strange happy and energetic look on his face whenever he finds things to juggle.. I am no longer allowed to take him to the farmer's market, he's entertaining but he does miss eventually and hit people or bruise the fruit.

Regardless he seems talented for his age which seems to be an attribute to the person he was within the book. That of course is a whole nother issue I will go into in a different entry as it deserves it's own.

For now all is well, Varian is curious and charming, Lam treats him as if he's always been here and he seems to be fitting in with the rest of the CDL children. I think we have a long journey ahead of us as parents but it's going to be interesting

Can't take you out of the house.

Erigin took the pair of ice-cream cones from the vendor and went to hand Varian his, however when she turned around the young boy was nowhere in sight. Heart racing her eyes searched the park as she tried to find a hint of the missing boy. Varian lacked any real distinctive looks and easily blended in with the children there who looked and probably were human. For the first time the seraph wished her boy was of a species that had traits that would make him easier to spot.

Fortunately the angel spotted her son at the other end of the park attempting to climb a domed junglegym. She gave a slight sigh of relief and headed in the boy's hoping the ice cream wasn't going to melt all over her hands before she got to him. Honestly Varian had to stop this wandering off thing.

For all that Lam assured her that she wasn't about to badly screw up with the book born child Erigin was still distressed any time he disappeared. Varian was young and potentially dangerous, though he'd shown no magical skill yet, she didn't feel comfortable with him just going wherever he pleased. She tried to keep her eyes on him most of the time but the ability of children to disappear in absolutely no time never ceased to amaze her. She'd prefer if the child vanishing these days wasn't always hers though. She just wanted him safe until she knew just what to expect from Varian and until he was ready to face the world away from her watchful eyes.

Meanwhile with a determined look plastered on her face Varian struggled to climb the bright blue junglegym. The strange structure was made of dozens of metal triangles welded together to make a dome. How so many triangles made half a sphere didn't make sense to Varian and in order to better understand he'd slipped away from his Mother to climb the structure hoping seeing it from up top would help him better grasp this mystery. There was no end of handholds for the boy to use in his quest though was having a great deal of trouble trying to get his feet to not slip on the rounded bars. Still an innate sense of balance kept Varian from falling and hurting himself or anyone else.

It hadn't even remotely occurred to Varian that he should wait for his ice cream first, he had seen the junglelgym and in that second he knew he had to go and climb it, to figure out how the strange thing worked.

"Varian Ishiha," The words being shouted in an angry tone of voice caused The dark skinned boy to pause and slowly look over her shoulder at his mother. Her eyes were narrowed and she was glaring directly at him, mint chip ice-cream was dripping down one hand leaving several lines of shiny sticky liquid on it.

" Yes?"

" What did we talk about just yesterday" Erigin asked tapping a foot on the ground while raising her one hand to lick away the offending ice-cream. One simply couldn't be intimidating with ice-cream all over them. That and she had no desire to attract bugs to her hand.

"How I'm not supposed to go where you can't see me." The child replied softly , though she had to have been able to see him if she'd found him. Still, the reality that he had done something wrong was sinking in. He climbed down carefully and took his melty tiger tail cone with a mumbled " Thank you." He hadn't gotten the answers he'd wanted and he was in trouble now, it wasn't Varian's best day by far. At least though he had still gotten his ice cream.
