I'm not sure I understand what we're looking for…
H'dra craned his neck, peering at the Hold so very far below them. It made him a little anxious to fly so far from the Weyr by themselves, but Dievath had proved himself to be a good Search dragon so that left him with little choice. With a clutch on the Sands it was time to bring in a new round of Candidates. Some of the previous group had gone home, others seemed to lose focus, and some still seemed to be more determined than ever to Impress. Even with the overcrowding, it was important to find new blood the Wingleaders had said. H'dra had agreed, until he was nominated to go find this new blood. It was very stressful.
I will know when I feel it. You must trust your Dievath. I do not fib. The blue hummed softly, blue eyes whirling, before something caught his attention. Down there? To the left? No, the other left! There! Dievath banked so suddenly he nearly unseated his rider, tucking his wings close to his body as he dived for the land below. He managed to pull up in time, flapping steadily until he landed on the ground with a rather undignified thump. I have found someone! They are near here! The blue announced, a little late. Now you must go find them! Remember to… do what Ialluth's told us!

It hadn't exactly been the best of days, but Silute wouldn't blame it on anything other then himself. He had left early from his apprenticeship (again), if only because his frustration with the Beastcraft had gotten the better of him. He wouldn't be able to accomplish much lately anyways, even if he had never learned much to begin with. Something about the Beastcraft just didn't click with him, like the craft he had dabbled in beforehand. Really, it didn't seem that much was going his way. He tried to view it in a positive light, but eventually... that just didn't work out.
So, in order to distract himself, he was wandering about the Hold - more specifically in the Hold Circle, making his way back home with some of the errands he had volunteered to make. There was (another) new baby in the family, which wasn't so bad when there were so many of them to take care of it, but toys and clothes, and other assorted items were needed for the infant.
Running a hand through his short, dusty black hair, he sighed, gaze lowering to the items in hand. He really... needed to find something he was good at, and soon.

H'dra balked at the very idea of having to stroll into the Hold circle and find the potential candidate that Dievath would offer. F'sey hadn't been able to tell him anything about the appearance of the person. The sheer variety in the Weyr was enough to demonstrate that candidates came from all walks of life and in all shapes and sizes. How was he supposed to tell, from all these people, who was the boy or girl that Dievath wanted? How would he go about asking? What if he asked the wrong questions? He could bring disgrace to the whole Weyr with his actions!
Dievath, sensing his rider's distress, decided to take matters into his own hands. Lowering his head to the ground, he swished his tail from side to side as he studied the people. No, not that one, or that one, or that one…. Wait! There he was! I found him mine! I found him! Look I will show you! Dievath lifted his head and took a step forward, eyes on his target. The boy in question appeared to be reading a list of some kind, so he bugled to let him know that he was coming. The blue had exciting things to tell the boy! He should pay attention.
The bluerider sputtered, before throwing his hands out to stop the blue from making his way into the crowd. "Wait! Just, wait for a second, okay!"

He had everything he needed, so there was no point in delaying going home any longer. His fingers tightened around the list of supplies he needed to get, signaling that he was done with it. If Silute didn't get home soon, he'd miss lunch anyways, and he didn't want his fortune to be quite that poor. But in the process of turning towards home, he was stopped mid-step by a loud bugle, the list dropping from lax fingers, which was then quickly followed by the rest of the items he was carrying. He couldn't even register that he had dropped anything, stunned by the loud sound. Silute's brown eyes instantly turned towards the source, again shocked witless by the sight of the blue dragon... and what he supposed was the blue's rider, who seemed to be struggling to keep his dragon still.
Puzzled by this, he ended up staring for a few seconds longer before it hit him that he'd just dropped all of his stuff. Withholding a curse, he bent down, beginning the process of gathering everything up in his arms, momentarily disappearing within the crowd from all of the holdfolk that were taller than him. But it was only a few moments before he straightened again, eyes dark as he glanced at the items he bought, making sure that none were injured by the impromptu fall to the ground. Silute sighed with relief that nothing got ruined, because Faranth knows he'd get chewed out by his parents for the wasted marks.
But to say that it was easy to take his eyes off the dragon and his rider was an understatement, because he felt curiosity lick at the edges of his thoughts, causing his gaze to turn and fix upon the pair again. Really, what were they doing?

Oh no! The boy had dropped his things! He was clumsier than His! Now all of his stuff was all over the ground and he was going to have to bend down and pick it up. Hey! That was a perfect way for His to go over and meet the boy he wanted! Sometimes he surprised himself with his own genius. Mine, quick he is looking at us! Now is your chance! And he has dropped his things! Go quickly! The blue was shifting his weight excitedly from foot to foot, never taking his whirling eyes off Silute. Until, of course, the boy kneeled down to pick up his belongings. Oh no he was gone! Mine hurry!
H'dra swallowed once to steady his nerves before he made his way through the crowd towards Silute. He felt momentarily guilty that his dragon – and himself by default – had caused this poor Holder to drop his things all over the ground. Perhaps being told he could be a dragonrider would make it up to him. That was, of course, if he didn't think being invited to stand for Impression was insulting. The thought nearly made the bluerider hesitate in his offer. Dievath, however, was not going to be put off now that H'dra had found the boy, and made sure to poke his rider until he mustered up the courage to speak with Silute.
"Um, I'm very sorry about this. We didn't mean to startle you." He only barely managed to stop himself from adding sir on the end. "I'm H'dra of blue Dievath, from Ista Weyr. If possible, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind letting Dievath get a better look at you?"

He had managed to gather his things up together, and while looking at the dragon and his rider was nice he needed to get... eh, wait. Why was the dragonrider heading towards him? Silute glanced quickly to the left of him, and then to the right, trying to determine whether there was someone else the dragonrider could possibly be headed to. Frowning to himself, he glanced behind him, but there too was no one close enough for the dragonrider to be interested in. So, that left him, and while he wasn't anxious or nervous, he was confused. Why would a dragonrider want to talk to him? Did he do something wrong?
But, despite the questions playing on his thoughts, he turned to H'dra and gave him a polite, personable smile. The little creases at the corners of his lips showed how much he was given to smiling, dimples evident upon his cheeks. "Ah, it's fine. Nothing's broken so it's no problem." Besides, he was sure H'dra hadn't told his dragon to bugle at him... or rather he hoped so. That had startled him so much his heart had beat rapidly for the next minute. "I'm Silute, it's nice to meet you... uhhh..." Well, that was a strange thing to be asked, and questioningly he glanced over H'dra's shoulder and to Dievath. There didn't seem to be any point in saying 'no', though. "No, I wouldn't mind." Again he smiled, slowly growing more comfortable with the situation. It was something new and refreshing, a little spice to the dull days of his life. He'd be able to go home with a smile after this, anyways.

Aw Mine he is so cute, Dievath crooned to His, watching as Silute looked around for other people. Why would I be looking for anyone else but him? He is special! He just does not know it yet, but we will tell him. You must do better than you did with... the other girl. Then we can brag to Ialluth and Hers! Of course they had done well, but the other girl that he had Searched had been so very talkative and energetic. Now it was up to His to take the initiative. But H'dra didn't have to worry. Dievath would back him every step of the way!
The smile made H'dra feel slightly better, and he tried to relax. If the smile was anything to go back, the boy wasn't angry at him or even mildly affronted. He decided to take that as a sign that they were getting off on a better foot. "It's a pleasure to meet you Silute. If you would just come with me?" It seemed so foreboding to say 'step this way', especially since the blue waiting on the other side of the crowd was not nearly as scary as he might appear. To H'dra, who knew him intimately, all he could see was a very big puppy. But to most Holders, a blue of that size with such stark markings could be quite frightening. The fact that he couldn't stop moving didn't help.
"He won't bite, I promise. He just wants to confirm something." He stopped before the blue, who had lowered his head again so he could get a better look at Silute. I was right. He is special! See, I am always right. He is a good boy. I like him. H'dra gave a small nod. "So Silute uh... have you ever considered being a dragonrider?"

If it hadn't been drilled into his head that dragons wouldn't harm humans, he very much would have been intimidated by the blue dragon. Dievath was huge and loud, and those factors worked together to make him seem intimidating. Silute hesitated for a moment, casting a somewhat-cautious look to Dievath before making himself relaxed. He eased the tension out of his shoulders, and brought that warm smile back to his face. "Sure," he replied, and holding his items tighter to his chest, he began to make his way across the hold circle and to the blue dragon. The closer he got, the larger Dievath seemed, and the nerves began to bundle up in the pit of his stomach again.
He wouldn't hurt him... wouldn't bite him... Silute just had to remember this and he was fine. He stood still, waiting in silence for Dievath to do... whatever it was he needed to do. Silute really didn't comprehend what was going on, though with H'dra's next comment, he was beginning to get an inkling of an idea. There wouldn't be much other reason as to why he was called over to Dievath anyways, singled out of the crowd and made to approach the blue. "Uhhh... yeah, a few times." Which was nothing more than the truth, though he'd been thinking about it more and more recently (if only because of his recent failures in... everything else he tried). "It sounds... interesting." Thrilling. Exciting. But, he'd leave those words for later, when he knew exactly what was going on.

"I-interesting?" H'dra faltered a little. Interesting wasn't exactly the most positive word he could think of, but it wasn't exactly a negative. Did that mean he was just being polite? Did he not want to come with them? He had certainly smiled when they approached, but that could have been just politeness too. Maybe he should just say 'thank you for your time' and run (fly?) back to the Weyr with his tail tucked between his legs. Nobody had ever told him that Searching would be this worrying!
But I want him to come with us. So he must come with us. He does not have a choice, Dievath insisted, blinking at Silute with one giant, whirling eye. The boy must come! Then he could say that he had found two very nice Candidates for the eggs on the sands. Ialluth would be proud of them then, he was sure of it! She would be very nice to him and Hers would praise His. Or, at the very least, allow him to sit in on their poker nights and go get them more wine. He was good at doing that.
Clearing his throat, the bluerider decided to phrase his question a little differently. "Well uh…. That's good that it interests you because Dievath thinks you could be a Candidate. If you want, that is, you don’t have to accept but he would like you to. But you still don't just because of that. Honest."

Was that... the wrong word to say? Silute blinked, stumbling a little over what to do to show that he didn't mean interesting in a 'bad' way. The only conclusion he could reach was to smile more, keeping his attention focused on and between H'dra and Dievath. Silute was quickly becoming less interested in his surroundings, in his apprenticeship and even the items he was taking such care in not dropping (his parents really would get mad at him for breaking something and wasting the marks he was allowed for the little shopping and trading trip).
Dievath blinked at him, and he blinked back, waiting in silence to see what exactly was going on. But, he wasn't left in the dark for long, rather enlightened as to what was going through the dragonrider's head quickly. Following H'dra's words was a lack of response that could only be called 'stunned silence'. His dark gaze turned to H'dra, staring at him for a few seconds longer. Well, it hadn't been entirely unsuspected with how H'dra had been leading up to it, but compared to earlier today... it definitely was a surprise. Silute briefly wondered if this was genetic, because his brother Erisi had been Searched earlier in the turn (and hadn't bothered to really tell anyone in the family).
"I would like to!"
Hmmm. A little more enthusiastic then he intended, but enthusiasm never hurt anyone, right?

H'dra almost lapsed into the very familiar "oh Faranth I've done something wrong haven't I" mode, had he not remembered that he had reacted the same way to being told he could be a rider. He remembered staring up at the rider with an expression of complete and utter shock, and that one of his siblings had had to answer for him to tell the rider that he would love to go. Of course he had wanted to go. He had just been so stunned that he hadn't been able to find his voice. His mother had scolded him gently when he was packing his things, but she hadn't been too upset about his lack of manners. Her son was going to be a dragonrider!
He was snapped out of his reverie when Silute responded, pleased by his increased enthusiasm. "That's good! You don't feel pressured by Dievath, right?" The dragon in question rumbled softly. "Okay, okay, but uh... do I have to ask permission from your parents? We could go... there.... now...." He trailed off, aware that the sentence had been so poorly worded his mother would have waggled her finger at him. But he had said it anyways, and he couldn't take it back. "We can give you a ride if you'd like. Unless you'd like to walk, of course. That's fine too."
