The world seemed a bigger place when you were on your own. he had left his parents' protection and company two suns ago now, and was not yet feeling very confident in himself. He was having no trouble surviving, he knew well where to find water, knew that too much of D'ob's rich grass would harm him, but he wasn't quite so sure on the people front. He hadn't actually spoken to another Nequus since leaving his family; everyone seemed to be already engaged in conversation, or looked standoffish. He didn't want to interrupt or annoy anyone but really this was beginning to get ridiculous. It was getting lonely, too.

He had five brothers, and of course his sire and dam. He had never really been alone before, and had swiftly decided that he liked the sensation not at all. So it was that he stood beside an attractive little stream, occasionally nibbling at a bit of grass, and hoping that somebody he could strike up a conversation with would come along. Feeling more than a little silly, Helios flicked his tail at a fly and waited.

Sunil was rather fond of the Valley, how could one not be what with its brilliant coloring - which he recalled with an inner smirk just so happened to go quite well with his own wonderfully coloured hide. Swooping through the sky with what he deemed to be quite elegant sweeps of his wings he kept an eye on the ground below.

Nequus roved around the valley floor in small group's and Sunil made sure to make a full sweep over the more concentrated area's - the better to show off his unique and wonderful looks. It was during this flight that a blip of white caught his eye - the blip appeared o be alone and Sunil dipped a bit closer to take a look. Indeed it was someone standing alone, and looking just a tad forlorn about it if Sunil did say so himself. Well we can't have that the beast thought to himself and tucking his wings closer to his body dove down in his typical reckless - but he thought dashing fashion to land on the far side of the stream. Of course his momentum was far to swift to simply stop with such a landing and so he half lept half skipped across the stream, sending water flying in all directions to finally come to a stop beside the white blip - which he could now see was was actually a white ,purple and blueish blip.

"Why hello there"

He spoke in mock surprise, as though in his wild dive he hadn't quite noticed that someone was standing in his self proclaimed landing zone.

Helios, who was now a slightly soggy stallion, blinked in surprise at the sudden arrival; he hadn't even had time to feel shocked about the swift entrance before the Ichsa greeted him... What a strange looking stallion he was! Helios spent a few moments taking in the sleek lines of the other Nequus' body. The blue colour was especially lovely, the little crest unique and attractive, and that tail looked spectacular! He felt positively dull in comparison.

"Greetings, friend," he managed after some moments of stunned silence. "I am Helios. Forgive me if I am too bold, but never in my life have I seen one such as yourself before. You are quite striking, sir." That probably had been too bold, but there was nothing he could do about it now. That vibrant blue. Stunning.

Sunil arched his neck,a practiced motion which was nearly as natural to him as walking by this point in his life, the motion even managed to send the little crest above his head to dancing - a detail which Sunil caught in the stream and found quite pleasing.

Basking in the silence of this unknown stallion Sunil reminded himself that when the compliment came, which it most assuredly would, it would only be polite to offer one back. It was important to be both beautiful and polite afterall. The fact that he'd just drenched the steed before him, something that was decidedly rude simply didn't cross his mind. Sunil though extravagant entrances were dashing and memorable.

Ah here the beast was speaking now Sunil brought his attention back to the other steed who no doubt would soon become an adoring fan. Helios..it was a nice enough name Sunil thought to himself and the lavender dappling on his legs was quite fetching - if a little...feminine. No need to bring that up though Sunil reminded himself - it was probably a sore spot. it would be for Sunil.

"Why thank you kind Sir, They call me Sunil and I've heard such comments before, through all my travels I too have never found another quite like myself."

Dont forget the compliment Sunil the stalion reminded himself almost too late and thier was a brief pause between his first statement and his second.

"Your mane is quite lovely, i'm sure the ladies find such locks quite appealing"

Well done Sunil! he congratulated himself mentally you managed to both compliment him and comment on his prowess with the ladies.

He certainly knew how to show himself off to his best effect. From his words, Helios got the impression that the display was deliberate, but somehow he didn't dislike the strange stallion for his vanity. Was it really vanity when it was true? That was a question he had no answer to. Certainly when a creature was obviously attractive, their denying it was foolish, and only looked as though they were seeking further compliments. Sunil knew he was handsome and wasn't afraid to let others know he knew it.

The compliment to his own looks when it came caught him a little by surprise, and it took Helios a few moments to marshal a response. "Thank you Sunil!" He had always quite liked it himself, soft floating strands that responded to any breeze, like his fathers' mane. It meant that it blew in his face a lot if the wind was going the wrong way but he still liked it. "I must confess I've not really spoken to many mares yet to know whether or not they will agree," he went on with a slightly abashed smile. "I have only recently parted company from my sire and dam. You are actually the first Nequus I have spoke to since striking out on my own."

He quite liked the idea of being handsome, it wasn't something he had considered before. He liked the way he looked, but he hadn't considered whether or not others might too, or what he might think if they did. He was pleased that Sunil liked his mane though, very pleased! If such a handsome creature found anything about him worth mentioning, then surely he had to be at least alright to look at.

It seemed that his compliment has caught the other off guard - ah well those of course are the best kind Sunil reminded himself. While it was always nice to hear a compliment, it was even nicer to hear one that was unexpected. Tended to make ones day it did - or at least it always made Sunil's day.

Oh here he was speaking again and Sunil brought himself out of his own inner thoughts to focus on the steeds words, it was only polite after all - well his story certainly explained why he was standing here all alone, at least to some degree, though why he hadn't just walked on over and started chatting with one of the groups scattering the Valley floor was lost on Sunil. Sunil never had much trouble finding someone to speak with.

"Ah well! A brand new world to explore before you then and quite a colorful world it is. You know what my parents told me when I started off..they said Sunil you just go on out there and make the world your own. Was pretty decent advice if I do say so myself, why you ought to just march right on over to one of these groups out here and start chatting them up"

There you go Sunil he congratulated himself - way to boost his confidence! Of course Sunil sounded like he'd been on his own for quite some time - which wasn't completely true as he was still a fairly youthful steed, but Sunil had always been wiser then his years in his way of thinking.

Make the world your own. He didn't quite agree with that philosophy but change it a little and it made sense to him. Don't be afraid, just do what seemed right, do what you wanted to do. The worst anyone could do was tell you to go away... Well, actually the worst they could do was attack you but he doubted there were very many people in the world that would attack you just for saying hello. All in all, it was pretty good advice.

Helios grinned and nodded. "That sounds... sensible. I mean you can't enjoy life if you don't meet lots of other people can you?" Nequus needed friends to be happy, to feel at peace with life. Being along was no fun at all, so making the effort to get to know people was necessary. After all, the people who looked standoffish might just be too shy to talk to anyone and grateful that someone else made the first move. Those already in conversations might be happy to make a new friend. It was worth trying, it was always worth trying, he had sworn to himself when he left his parents that he would always try his best in life. That didn't just mean trying to be honorable, brave, and strong, it meant trying to find friendships and happiness as well.

"You seem to have an excellent grasp on how to get though life," Helios went on with a smile after a moment. "You must have many friends and admires in the world Sunil." He could learn a lot about confidence from watching this stallion. The fact that watching him was rather pleasant was of course a nice bonus. That blue colour still enchanted him.

Sunil bobbed his head slightly - well aware that this motion set the crest on his head to bobbing and the sun glinting off the brilliant blue shading that danced up his neck, it was a good side effect of agreeing with Helios.

"Yes,yes...very sensible, and unless your some sort of hermit living on a mountain top somewhere with some pigeons or whatnot then no I can't see how life would be much fun without some company. Otherwise you'll start talking to yourself you will...or the pigeons"

Sunil had once run across a batty old Nequus who talked to pigeons and he was quite sure it had happened due to her lack of company. Made one crazy it did. He considered sharing this story with Helios - there was a good moral to it he thought when the other steed spoke again. He beamed at the others words, clearly pleased to punch with what he had said. Obviously you've made a good impression once again Sunil way to go! he congradulated himself.

"I'd say that's quite accurate, quite accurate indeed, although Im new to this particular area I don't think it will take me all to long to get my feet. I say!..we ought to go out and meet some of these chaps together!

Helios' ear perked up at that suggestion and he nodded enthusiastically. "I should like that very much, Sunil! I confess I do not like being by myself at all, I would far rather have somebody to travel with and make friends with." It was a lot safer to travel in company as well, you were far less likely to get attacked by an evil Nequus if you were with somebody else. Not that he really feared being attacked, not in D'ob, but all the same, it was a good feeling to be around others. They'd already covered that, of course.

"It will be nice to make friends other than my tree-brothers," Helios grinned with a slight shake of his head. "There are six of us; family life did tend to get hectic at times."

"Well then a daring adventure we shall have!"

Sunil declared with a firm stamp of his hoof and a wink of his eye, he was instantly envisioning all sorts of scenarios in his head - all of them of course portraying the worldwide love and affection anyone they met would shower upon them. Sunil simply couldn't fathom anything else.

"Six! Well that's quite a family - I was an only child myself and I don't think my parents will try for a repeat performance, they tell me I was a troublesome foal. I prefer to think active and curious myself"

The strangely colored Nequus declared with a wonderfully tuned burst of laughter and a swish of his strangely colored tail.

Helios laughed along with him; what a lovely laugh he had. Everything about Sunil was lovely... Oh dear. Was he developing a crush? This was the first person he'd met since leaving his family and already he was getting silly over the strange stallion! Well... well he supposed he'd just had very good luck with this first encounter; he couldn't imagine how it could be going better.

"I imagine you were! Curious that is," he went on with a nod, "I was fairly adventurous but all in all I suppose I was quite a good and obedient son." He'd never even considered feeling embarrassed about that before, but suddenly he wished he had a wild story or two to tell Sunil. He had enjoyed his foalhood, yes, but he had always behaved well and done as his parents told him. It seemed rather dull now.

"Still," Helios went on with a grin, "I am sure we shall have great fun, and see great things! There is so much world to explore, and so many people to meet!" Was the world full of people as lovely and interesting as Sunil? He hoped so, what a wonderful place to live Urin would be if that was the case.

Sunil nodded sagely as Helio's words craning his neck to glance about them and of course ensuring that the sun glinted quite nicely off the brilliant blue of his neck.

"No doubt!, no doubt you were, but my mother always said Sunil...wisdom is knowing when to listen and when to ignore. I'm quite sure, indeed, quite sure that your parents were wise beasts and listening to them was a good course of action. why...by doing so you have arrived at this very point in time and it's a good point in time if I do say so myself!"

Turning back to his newly found friend Sunil beamed at him

"Thats the spirit friend! Now we only need to find a starting point to our next adventure."

Yes! On to adventure! Helios pranced slightly in excitement. "Yes, a starting point!... There's a hill over there, maybe if we go and stand at the summit, we will see just such a beginning for ourselves." He hoped so, and with everything today going so well he believed it would come to be. After all, how hard could adventure be to find with such a good companion?

When to listen, and when to ignore. Trust his own judgment, forge his own path, choose his own destiny. It was happy coincidence that the life he wanted for himself was one that would please his sire and dam. He wanted to help people who needed it, rescue the weak from tyranny, fight evil, and maybe sometimes just offer companionship to a sad soul. For now however, he was very young and needed to experience a bit of the world before he could really do any good. Maybe he only thought that because he wanted to remain with Sunil for now, but he liked to think that it was a sensible choice all the same.

Sunil arched his neck as his friend pranced - yes the hill of course Sunil simply couldn't see how he'd missed it himself! Hills were fine spots - both to look for further adventure and from which to be seen by others - two of Sunils most favorite things.

"Of course my friend! Onwards and upwards I say! to the Hill!"

Tossing his head slightly Sunil sent the tassels on his head to bobbing, and the blue on his neck to flashing before sweeping his wings outwards to help balance (and catch the sun of course) as he rose in what he considered to be a rather magnificent rear, spinning on hind hooves and striking out towards the yonder hill in a pretty rolling canter

Helios' start was rather less impressive; he'd been too busy watching Sunil to make a flashy take off of his own, by the time he cam back to himself it was time to spring into a full gallop to catch up. Adventure ahead, aloneness behind, Sunil by his side. It didn't really occur to him that he knew this stallion not at all, that he might turn out to be bad news, or that they might just have a personality clash in the end. All he could think of as they rushed together towards that hill was how blessed he was in finding this lovely, brilliant creature to travel with. The Gods, Helios decided, were smiling on him.
