Hmm, I forget what the most common crayfish Sp. sold at petstores is, but I think it's P. Alleni.
Some basic care tips for any cray sp. are: -Don't house them with any fish or plants that you don't want to lose -10g per cray, except in some of the bigger species -Varied balanced diet -Hard water makes their shells happy (I have soft water so I supplement with tums, but any calcium supplement works) -They need a cave or two to hide in -Plug up any and all holes at the top of your tank, they are notorious escape artists -Don't house them with loaches or anything that might seek them out while they're hiding after a moult

i agree with vanilla
dont keep em with anything you wouldn't want to lose. harder water for the crayfish may even make it difficult to keep most peaceful fish with it anyway. i know cichlids like harder water BUT when the crayfish molts it will probably become a snack.

yes a filter and water changes cuz they are mess eaters. frozen pieces of fish (maybe something like silver sides) would probably be a really good food for crayfish. kinda like how our saltwater crabs and shrimp and things like it
how much? depends on the size of the crayfish

A cycled tank is a must and you usually need a filter for a cycle. Plus yes, they are very messy. I feed mine all the same things I feed my fish. Blood worms, a few different types of pellets, vegetables and lettuces. They're omnivores and scavengers, so they'll do a good job eating pretty much anything you put in. I don't have many fish in my 20g so I usually go with one pellet per species per day, plus a half a cube of blood worms in the evening to be split amongst the occupants. I assume that one pellet works for an adult cray because mine kept growing and growing and that's what she was eating.
