A lone figure sat perched upon a swing, her hands folded upon her lap and eyes focused on them, as her feet idly pushed her forward and back. She looked like a doll, dressed up in black and white, almost all of her skin covered except for her neck and face. Though, her neck was clad in a silver necklace with large black gems. Her hair was a vivid violet, her eyes a startling blue. But they were narrowed, staring down at her hands.

She wore a dress that reached her knees, black, decorated with white ribbons and lace. Her legs were covered by black stockings, her arms by black gloves. The reached all the way to nearly meet the short sleeves of her dress. The thin patch of skin allowed to show was a stark white in contrast with her dark clothing. This clothing, also, was not quite suitable for the chilly weather she was out in. But, the girl didn't seem to notice. She was staring fixedly at her hand, the right in particular.

Fingers opened, closed, opened again, then squeezed into a tight fist. Finally, her eyes glanced up, making sure she was alone. Once she'd confirmed this, she lowered her gaze once more. Her left hand crossed her form, and slender fingers grasped the top of her glove, and began slowly rolling the fabric down her arm. More porcelain skin came into view, but it was flawed, cracked, or rather, scarred. Most were small and fading, just light glimmers of shinier skin against the rest. But as she went downwards, a few larger ones appeared. Finally, the biggest of all revealed itself upon her hand. Her palm looked as if it had been deeply cut, sliced open, along with her fingers, as if she'd grasped a knife by the blade. Her gloved left hand trailed softly over the marred skin, her expression softening as she gazed upon it.

A young boy ran down the path to the playground, tripping several times due to excitement, uncoordination, and the weight of his large, blue duffel bag. His mop of curly, light-blond hair was out of control, flying all over the place and obscuring his vision; it was incapable of being restrained. He was wearing a dark denim jacket over a deep blue t-shirt that matched the color of his large, innocent-looking eyes. When the boy reached the playground, he stopped short and gasped, nearly dropping his bag onto his dingy white tennish shoes. "Oh my... holy..." he said breathlessly, partly from surprise and partly from the running. "This place is awesome!"

The boy - Matt was his name - did drop his bag and shot off. First, he climbed up and slid down every slide multiple times. Then, quickly losing interest, he sat down on a swing, not even noticing the girl sitting beside him. He didn't even wait five minutes before jumping up and dashing to the jungle gym, pulling himself up surprisingly fast. Matt stood up triumphantly at the top, shouting, "I'm king of the world!" with raised arms before falling backwards to the ground with a small "Oof!" He quickly stood up, however, and finally noticed the pale girl with purple hair.

"Hello!" he yelled happily, rushing over to stand in front of her. "My name is Matt! What's your name? Isn't this place awesome?" He rushed his words together, not bothering to stop and wait for her to say anything. It wasn't like he could help it; he was, after all, ADHD predominantly hyperactive. Seeing her scars, Matt didn't even think twice before reaching out and touching the one on her hand. "Hey, what's that?" he asked, not realizing how personal those little words and motions were.

Rin wasn't sure what to do. When the little boy charged in and interrupted her peace, she simply froze for a moment, body locked in place as her widened eyes followed him. The serene atmosphere had been shattered, just like that. Children really.. were such a horrible nuisance. She hadn't the faintest idea what to do about them. So insensitive and thoughtless, walking over people, interrupting them for their own selfish means. Couldn't he see she was here? Perhaps he was blind. Or stupid. She wouldn't be surprised, from the looks of him. He was carrying a large bag, which he'd simply dumped. It was just asking to be stolen. Had he just arrived, unsupervised? Was there no one to put him on a leash, or tell him he should place his belongings in his room before he went gallivanting around the place and terrorizing innocents?

She felt herself tense up as he settled on the swing beside her, but he didn't linger. He dashed off again almost as soon as he'd been seated. She would never understand children, or why anyone would want one. This one seemed like a particularly large pain and it didn't take him long to undeniably prove it to her. Truly, he was a stupid child.

Rin blinked as he paused in front of her and started babbling almost too quickly to be understood. Her lips parted, to snap at him to leave her alone. However, he brought a much worse fate upon himself with his careless touch and question. He'd seen. No one had seen, not anyone. She seized up for a second at the contact, her eyes going wide as if she was utterly shocked. And she was. Hadn't this brat been taught any manners? What the hell was he doing at a high school?! Rin didn't respond to his question. Instead she reached out, her hand jerking forward to shove the little boy in the chest, and at the same time one leg extended to hook behind his, so that, unless he dodged, he'd topple over her and fall to the ground. Then, without further hesitation, she stood and marched off in silent rage, tugging her glove on as she went.

Matt squealed as he was pushed to the ground with his legs flying upward, a sound that should have been too high-pitched for his age. He laid there for a few moments before jumping up and chasing after the girl. "Ow! What was that for?" he asked. Without waiting more than a minute for an answer, he spoke again: "Hey, are you one of those people that don't talk? My mama - well, not my real mama, but Mrs. Baylor - told me about them. She said that they're the opposite of me, 'cuz I talk too much." Those last five words suddenly hit Matt, and he fell silent. After a few moments of following the girl, he said quietly, "I shouldn't have done that. Touched your hand, I mean. I'm sorry." On his face, the shame was written clearly as his eyes drifted to the ground and his mouth, usually smiling, curled into a sad frown. He stopped walking, his eyes slowly filling up with tears. "I'll leave if you want me to," he whispered.

The long glove was slipped quickly along her arm, secured snugly in place to hide away the marks she didn't want anyone to see. She wasn't sure how she'd managed to let a child catch a glimpse, much less touch. Children blabbed without knowing any better, and she did not want anyone to find out. Ever.

Rin rolled her eyes as she realized he was following her and determinedly kept her gaze ahead, hoping he would lose interest. She had no interest in what he had to say. Even a child should be able to tell that. But, she had decided that this one was particularly irritating and troublesome, and had a lack of anything even close to resembling proper manners. For a moment, during his silence, she wondered if he had lost interest and ran off. But when he spoke again, she uttered a growl of frustration and finally turned.

"That's exactly what I want," she snapped. Tears were wasted upon her, as she gazed at him levelly and completely unaffected by them. "Glad to see you've finally realized it." That said, she turned once more and resumed her quick strides to leave him in the dust, hopefully. She didn't have time to worry about some kid that was for some reason roaming unchecked around a high school.

He stood for a moment, hanging his head. He forced his tears back; that had been the only knowledge he had retained from water manipulation training. "I'm sorry," he whispered, his voice barely audible. "It's just... I... I can't..." Matt's voice trembled and then faded, and it was as if he had never said anything to begin with. Suddenly, his head shot up and he screamed, "Why can't I ever get anything right!?" His face was twisted in anger, not at the purple-haired girl, or at life, or the world, but at himself. He meant those words. It truly seemed as if he never did get anything right, whether it was an assignment at school, making a friend, or such a simple task as standing still. His voice dropped down to a whisper as he went off to get his bag. "My life is a mistake..."

Ooc| Sorry for the shortness! I lack good ideas.
OMG! I just remembered that, on Matt's profile, it says he has a dog. Razzle-Dazz will have to make an entrance here soon, lol
