Another day and her Mother was still gone. She never spent any time with the infant. At such a young age, she could not understand why her Mother, her protector, was so cold toward her. Lately Chizu had simply wandered around on her own. Saryichu would leave for days at a time simply unable to face the reminder that her second mate left.

Finally tired out from waddling around, Chizu lay curled up in a clump of grass beneath a large tree. The grass around her made her feel protected. She'd been asleep for a while now, but had no reason to get up, so stayed there curled up.
