A'ras pulled himself up and walked down the water at Weiwin's recommendation. He loved the water as much as Cav seeing a pretty young girl wet up to her shorts just added a bit of fantasy to his view. "Mm.. yes, well I'm sure that I can meet your mother at the market, no reason to impose on your family's home." he said with smirk as he walked out into the water then dove under to soak his entire body coming up with a small splash. Oh, he woudn't mind going to her mother's house but certainly not with her father there! He had other more impish ideas in mind; ones that could be settled far in the bushes with a few paint pots and the artist's fine hands. Weiwin's mother was quite a flirt...along with a few other fine women here and there spread out among several holds. However, after a few minutes he was beginning to believe that Weiwin had a bit of tease in herself as well.
Dipping down further in the water he picked up a couple of pretty shells from the bottom, "Look Cav, I found a couple good ones to take with us." He called back towards the beach where Cav mildly snorted back at him. One was a pretty deep shell filled with a multitude of bright colors and the other a plainer shell with several whorls that came to a sharp point.
In Cav's eyes, his A'ras was having fun and that would do for now. A'ras always seemed better after a good sunning at the beach....more in focus with the world. But then he heard Garith speak and glanced his way. Cavaruth wasn't exactly sure if that mild dozing of Gariths was just to avoid conversation with him but he'd continue to make pleasant conversation as Cav preferred hanging out with male dragons...even though he loved to 'help' out females. "Ah well there are way too many humans in the Weyr as is so I can understand the need to spread out the wings and find new places to stretch out." Cavaruth didn't mind the drinking or gambling because sometimes it distracted his rider enough for him to go...pursue the opposite sex. Just so many damsels in distress, and his rider didn't give him the time to save them all.
A'ras would not have agreed with Cav's ideas, especially after getting a shoe thrown at him when Cav left a female high in a tree that had been trying to collect fruit from the ground. Ugh. Since then, A'ras had been a bit more vigilant about Cav's favorite...past time. "I might take a bit of time go to searching myself. I'm out of the Weyr enough, might be a good diversion and something that needs to be done anyway." If he could keep himself from procrastinating about the idea. Several times he had thought about doing just that but had only left the thought to the back of his mind as other things popped up. However, with this new green wingleader, maybe this was something he should serious get his act together on. They'd split up the Weyr then, and maybe he could get out of this blasted wing! Now how was that for Motivation!! He quickly calculated how much Klah and nights he'd need to get through all the maps of Pern then plot out his path! His eyes blinked some as the energetic idea took hold of him. He'd do it!

R’than’s voice sounded as she continued in; stopping only once she was waist deep. She turned then and faced the beach, feet grasping at sand as waves knocked against her. It wasn’t the best of times, but it certainly wasn’t the worst either. There might be minor inconveniences wrought by the loads of people crammed into Ista Weyr, but that wouldn’t last for long. It simply couldn’t – one way or another the population of the Weyr would even out. Thread would exact a toll on the number of dragonriders and that was a fact. Weiwin briefly pondered how riders, on an individual level, dealt with the possibility of dying or losing their dragons. Then, of course, her thoughts flitted into her mind as she thought of her own mortality. However, her final thought was that death had to be a more frightful notion for a dragonrider.
Kneeling for a spell, Weiwin got her hair nice and wet. Black shimmering curtains hung on either side of her cheeks as she rose; her head turned to the side a bit, black tendrils swinging as she eyed the beach.
Talk of a sweeps and perfect locations pulled her back into the present and she asked, “Where are the Searches being conducted?” She was mildly curious as they couldn’t have overlooked a volcanic mountain in the Northern continent. So, a new Weyr in the Southern continent where the landscape was as feral as it was beautiful … or so she’d heard. She didn’t think it a likely proposition, for one thing how would they carve rock to form living spaces once the right local was found? Even if the means were available for such work, it would take turns for the project to be finished. It certainly wasn’t a fix for their immediate problems. “And, what happens when the right location is found? There are other Weyrs with overcrowding issues; do you think a new Weyr will solve the general problem?” More like which Weyr gets first dibs on the joint.

R'than gave a rueful smile and gestured vaguely at the world at large. "Everywhere," he clarified, "the wingleaders that have decided to send their wings out have each been making their own decisions so far as I gather... If riders from Iata find anywhere, I assume the Weyr will be cut back to an ideal size. If the new Weyr doesn't end up with enough dragons, perhaps invitations will be sent out to the other Weyrs as well." That sounded sensible to him at any rate, but of course it would be up to the Weyrwoman and Weyrleader... Would Favan end up as the senior Weyrwoman at a new Weyr? She was a goldrider, and so really he ought to respect her but honestly the sly woman just didn't match up to the goldriders he had known in his youth. She was selfish, and that was no way for a person in power to be.
"It might be a good plan to do some private searching," R'than mused after a moment's pause. "The more eyes out there the better after all." It would be good to get away from the Weyr when he and Garith were off duty. A green wingleader. What was the world coming to? It was almost too much to bear to have to bow to that woman's commands. It was wrong, unnatural. Who had decided to throw away all the history of Pern to put in a green wingleader, and just as the threat of Thread loomed over them all? Why had it been necessary? There were plenty of bronzeriders with minds just as sharp as Lyveanna's, why had they been overlooked for promotion? It made no sense, none at all.
"Yes," Garith nodded his agreement, "there are too many. Something will be done soon though, as soon as a suitable site for a new Weyr is found." He hoped it was soon. He could handle the situation, he could keep his peace and follow that green, he could do it for as long as he had to. That didn't mean he was enjoying the experience in the least. What was the world coming to? Goldriders lacking honour, greens given positions they had no right to; it was not right. He would endure it though, for the good of the Weyr he would keep up the standards others seemed to have forgotten. He had made a promise to His, he didn't remember it happening but he knew he had done it. Always to behave as a dragon and his rider should. They had sworn that. Difficult circumstances would not bring them down, nothing would make their standards fall.

A'ras took in R'than's words as...well it came from my wingsecond...mmm...that could be considered close enough to an order. He smiled to himself as he tucked his head under the water one more time to grab at the shells and sand below. Knowing he might use that piece if somehow he didn't quite make it back in to drill with the motley crew. Eventually his fingers came across another shell that was a little smaller but good enough to take back. But soon he turned his attentions to the others again, "Yes, more eyes upon a new Weyr would be a wise thing indeed. Eventually, there isn't going to be enough space for all of us if something isn't done."
Cavaruth stretched his wings out and shook off a bit of sand as he sat. "You would think that someone would have found something by now. I have to wonder if someone hasn't shoved it under the rug." said Cav using words familar from his rider. He listened to A'ras' rants about conditions enough to form a similar opinion. He'd like to have room on a perch to stretch without rubbing every dragon's wing. Although it made getting to know the ladies much easier. However, the food wasn't nearly as good at the Weyr with stringy animals and more competition for food in general. "It would be good to find something new soon. I think that A'ras is interested in pursuing a new Weyr as well."
Any excuse to get out of the Weyr, would have worked for A'ras but finding a new Weyr had that appeal that solved so many problems. Especially with Winter around the corner, A'ras was saving up his favors at the holds to get a few decent Herdbeasts for Cav if things got lean. A'ras had a sinking suspicion that things would not be easy for the Weyr.
"Mm...well the searches are supposedly being done anywhere there is a possibility at least from what I have been told." It frustrated A'ras that he hadn't been told that much really. He should have pressed the issues further but of course he'd have expected the bronze or browns to have spoke up first...been more forceful with the leadership. Maybe they had? Well, R'than was a brown rider but it seemed like he didn't have any idea either. "Well, when the right location is found, I am guessing that some will be sent down to investigate, clear out and prepare depending on what they find. It probably won't be a perfect situation but if a bit of our population was relieved here, then the Weyr would function better."
In the back of his mind, he wondered about the girl's thoughts, it would take a long time to clear caverns...build rooms. Unless they got really lucky. Was their a chance to find an old Weyr out there from times gone past? That was probably a very slim imaginative idea. More than likely it would be a long time and hard work....and starving dragons at this rate. That thought took him back towards the beach and Cavaruth...."I'm heading back to the beach. Seems like I've gotten my fair share of the water."
His mood was starting to swing just a little as he kept considering the future of the Weyr. Maybe that late night mapping project was sooner in his future. Shards knew he'd rather not sit around waiting because at this rate the leadership would be fool enough to assign a Candidate to Wingleader next. The kid could stand out under the thread and guide the dragons with flags from the ground!
Cav glanced up hearing his riders thoughts then blinked a few times wondering if he had hear that right, "Candidates as Wingleaders?"

(such a short and overdue reply sweatdrop )
She briefly watched as A’ras sauntered off to his dragon, then a frown crossed her face. The younger dragonrider seemed to be taking their conversation truly to heart. Was he now on a personal mission? Well, that was none of her business and she looked to R’than for some semblance of order. However, what she saw was another rider torn by circumstantial woes. Was winter at Ista Weyr going to be that tough this time around? In any case, she got the feeling that she was missing out on what the two riders were really worried about. Were these two men contemplating running away from something or someone? She really tried to mask the feelings stirred up by these thoughts; however, she knew that she utterly sucked at such things. So, instead she looked down into the sea. “Why do I get the feeling, R’than that you aren’t totally at ease in the water?” She asked, looking up with a little smile. Riders and their vulnerable spots, she found it interesting. Not that she was one to jab at the soft underbellies of others, no; she just liked to file it away in the back of her mind. Personal business, you know.
Between R’than’s answer and A’ras’ departure, Weiwin’s stomach made an embarrassing gurgle. She was sure that the bluerider wouldn’t stay for lunch and she dearly hoped that R’than had snagged something from the kitchen AND was willing to share with her.

((^^ No worries!))
R'than laughed, eager to change the subject and very glad that A'ras had walked away without saying anything rash. "Ah, I like water just fine no matter how deep it is, so long as I can see the bottom. When I was a boy, my elder brother told me stories about sea monsters that frightened the life out of me, never quite got over that childish fear." He felt rather silly about it all, but didn't really mind people knowing about it, he was willing to put up with a bit of teasing, and it wasn't as if it was a weakness that could really be used against him. If anyone ever ditched him in deep murky water, Garith would be there like a flash to rescue him.
"Shall we go in?" R'than added after a moment. "I've got plenty of food in my bag, and by the sounds of it you could do with some!" He'd eaten breakfast not long ago, but the idea of a meatroll and something to drink was definitely appealing.
Garith rumbled softly at Cavaruth's words; that was coming close to being impolite about Lyveanna, and that was not acceptable. "That would be impossible," he said simply after a moment of considering his words. He had believed that a green wingleader was impossible until a little while ago, but he didn't voice that.

Cavaruth eyes rolled towards Garith as he started to lift himself up from sitting since A'ras was coming in from the water. He chuckled at the brown as the sand fell from his legs, "Highly improbable...but not impossible." It amused him that the brown even responded to what he had said. Maybe there was a small bit of angst hidden within that one's hide. However, Cavaruth wouldn't bother to continue to press the point because this brown was seriously too tied to the roll as second to a GREEN making his efforts not worth the energy expenditure. Especially when Cavaruth was fairly certain that this dragon and the rider didn't care much for he or A'ras. But at least they had the sensibility not to give the Candidate a show of that dislike.
As A'ras arrived on the beach he smiled up at Cavaruth and put the shells in a a small bag beside him. "Well, that should make for a few good trades. I'm thinking we can head on our weyr now Cav, I've got something I want to research."
Cavaruth put out a foot and A'ras jumped up then slide into his straps cinching them up quickly and giving a couple tugs just to make sure they were secure. He looked out over the water and called out to Weiwin. "I'll get back with you on that travel. I'm sure that something can be arranged in the near future."
Then, with a bit of a dragon-like grin still upon his face, Cavaruth turned and ran a few steps down the beach before leaping towards the sky with a graceful stroke of his wings. Getting a good stretch, the wings took in the air and soon the dragon was floating high above the waters. "I don't think Garith cares for me." he said to A'ras as they headed back towards the weyr.
"Oh, well...his rider doesn't care for either of us. But the girl...well she was rather...interesting." smirked A'ras as he contemplated the last couple of hours and wondered if Weiwin's artist mother was...busy. It would have been just in his fancy to turn upon wings and tail to fly towards another hold but if he did that, his other idea to start his research would slip away again so he tossed it to the back of his mind for bit and put other thoughts forward. R'than and his brown seemed older...and traditional from all he could gather. It was sad to see one so bent on tradition to be stuck as a wingsecond to a green that obviously couldn't lead...only bully in A'ras' opinion. Overall, the situation was down right a mess: one he wanted out of before it got any worse.

“That sounds great. I only had a small breakfast before running to the beach.” She felt like a dolt as she knew better than that, but at least R’than was here to shut up her gut. Geeze, it might scare wee ones and their families away thinking it was one of those dreadful sea monsters of R'than's youth. Funning aside, though, she was a confident lass walking back to the shore, hips doing their usual dance from side to side. She couldn’t help it, really – ever since she had grown ‘em, she’d adopted a girlish sway to her walk.
When A’ras spoke she waved up at him and nodded at the heartbreaker. “You’ll have to wear more than a loin cloth up North.” She decided that she liked to tease him as she watched the pair takeoff.
Then, she asked R’than if Garith would mind her giving him a friendly pat, you know, while the rider gathered the stash of food. She was already walking in the brown’s direction. The older dragon seemed to be enjoying his R&R, would he be bothered by a squirt like her paying him attention? She was smiling.

Garith was quite happy to receive a pat, it was good for candidates to be familiar with dragons, and R'than was happy too; his lifemate, like any dragon, did like attention. As A'ras took off and Weiwin wandered over to Garith with that alluring sway she had, R'than busied himself with spreading out the blanket he had brought to sit on and setting out the food. All in all this was looking like being a pretty good rest day, especially now that A'ras was out of the picture. He needed to get to know the striking man better, R'than decided, but definitely not on his day off. Having finally got the blanket set smooth by Garith's side, he sat down and lent comfortably back against the brown's solid flank. Yes. Today was going to be a good day.

A'ras waved as he took off with a very large smirk at Weiwin's last comment. She definitely had spunk and... intelligence - something that this Weyr could definitely use as of late. Normally, he might have been distracted much longer by someone like her, but sometimes things took precedent even over his need for the ladies. There were other days and he'd plan for a run to Fort Hold in the future. Yes, that would have to be arranged.

She thought nothing of offering praise to the brown dragon, touching at his forepaw and the hide surrounding it. She felt equally at ease when it came to seating herself on the blanket across from R’than. She could watch Garith as he lulled, which is what she did as she munched. Certainly coming and going with as much food as you wanted from the kitchens was a perk of a dragonrider’s job. What were the others?
“As far as stories go, I grew up with them seeing as my father is a harper. When he’d try to tell me love stories- I wanted no part of them. When he’d cook up an adventurous tale fit with all the bloody trimmings– I’d eat it up.” She gave a little shake of her head. “I half wonder at times how I would have turned out if I had been fostered instead.” Did she say that out loud?
To change the subject she delved into recent history – R’than had recently been promoted to Wingsecond under a green Wingleader. She had to stop herself from smirking as she wondered if R’than was chaffing under his Wingleader’s command. That is, if he were like most men who simply couldn’t stand the notion of answering to a female. Subsequently, the man before her must be in a very interesting position right about now.
“Mm… if I remember correctly, you’ve been recently promoted to Wingsecond under Wingleader Lyveana. How is that working out for you?”

...Yes. Well. R'than was glad that he had just taken a bite of meatroll and was able to take a few moments to ponder his response. "It isn't easy yet," he said eventually, "new wings never are. Having new people enter established ones is hard enough, but at least that's just one or maybe two people to bring into a tight knit force. With us that camaraderie needs to be built up from scratch, and it isn't made easier by some people's attitude to Lyveana's appointment." Himself of course among those who were less than pleased, but he didn't have the luxury of expressing that to anyone but Garith. It was their duty to support her, and they always did their duty, no matter how hard or distasteful they might find it.
"I hope things come together soon," he went on after a few moments of silence. "People will get used to the idea of Lyveana," he never would, "and all of us within the wing will get used to one another." Most of them would anyway. A'ras, he suspected, would never truly integrate himself into the wing; the bluerider didn't want to follow some freak of a green, and neither did he. When their space issues they faced were finally solved there would no longer be so many riders that wings wouldn't need to fly a full Threadfall, and then frankly Hurricane Wing was stuffed. Lyveana would last a third, like all greens, and then he would have to manage both her job and his own. He would make a mistake eventually trying to do so much at once, and somebody on his wing would pay for it. He only hoped the greenrider was removed from her post before anything too serious happened, he truly desperately did.
