Joshua was leaned against the hot plastic yellow slide in Barton's park. Yuck, summer. At least the boy knew enough about it to wear shorts and a t-shirt, or maybe that was because he was too hot to wear anything else. He'd been born in winter, so he had never seen (or felt) heat like this.

He hated it. It was just too hot. He had to have the air conditioner on seventy at all times to even feel mildly comfortable. Stupid heat. Why couldn't it be sixty, fifty, or even forty degrees? He liked it then. In all honesty, hot weather made him feel like he was melting. Like a dropped ice cream cone on a hot sidewalk. Yuck.

Shiraz was decidedly in an unpleasant mood. She was overheated, her fur feeling uncomfortable and itchy in this weather. The girl was sure that things would be much more comfortable in front of the air conditioner at home, but presently she wasn't allowed to be there.

Absinthe, Shiraz's elder brother, had deemed the pair of them were spending way too much time at home lounging about and needed to get out and have some exercise. Granted, when he left, he hadn't realized just how sweltering it was outside and how much he and his sister would hate it, but the boy was determined to at least make the best of this situation.

When they reached the park, the green haired boy shooed his sister off towards the play equipment, hoping to at least get her to try doing something before they left. The black-and-white bear girl sighed as she trudged along towards the slide, waving at the boy beside it as she got near enough to investigate it. Poking at the yellow plastic of the item, she found it too hot to ride and decided to avoid going down it, choosing instead to just walk under it to be in the shade.

Joshua watched the panda girl with slight interest, before wiping a bead of sweat off of his forehead with his hand. She must have been much hotter than he was, he decided with a look of concern for the toddler. Poor thing. The dark skinned boy knew just what to do. For a moment, he seemed to have trouble standing up--he tried to use the slide to help him, but his hand was burnt.

Finally he managed it. He followed the toddler under the slide, and tapped her on the shoulder. A familar song started to play. "Hey, you want some ice cream?" He asked. "I'll get us some. What flavor do you like?"

The little girl stared at him for a moment. She liked ice cream and people seemed to enjoy buying it for her. But what kind was her favorite? That she didn't know.

"Dun care. S'rinkles are nice. Fanks." she said, trying to smile a little up at him. Ebby said it was polite to smile and say thank you when people offered to buy you things, something about it being good manners. It was nice that this boy was buying her stuff, though she didn't see why. Either way, the ice cream would be nice and cool.

"Sprinkles? Okay." Joshua smiled at her, before walking out from under the slide. He crossed the field to where the ice cream man was parked. He ordered a chocolate cone for himself, and a vanilla for Shiraz, with sprinkles. The man in the truck was polite, and smiled at the dark skinned boy as he was handed gold.

Josh hurried back under the slide, glad to be back in the shade. "Here you go... um, can I ask your name?" He asked, with a slight tilt of his head, as he handed the ice cream cone to her. "Hope you like it." He said with a smile.

"My name's Joshua, and you're welcome." He said, with a bright smile. What a nice little girl! Much nicer than his little sisters--they got mad too often.

The dark skinned boy seemed to remember something. "Hey, are you Ebby's sister?" He asked, with a slight tilt of his head. "She told me she had a little sister--I didn't think I'd get to meet you." He took a bite of his icecream--he didn't lick it, he bit it. "Brr!" He said, with a pretend shiver.

The panda nodded at that. "Yep. Ebby is sister. Has pink hair now." she decided that comment was necessary. After all, it was news about her sister and he knew her sister right? "Don't get to meet many of her friends." the bear commented before raising a brow as she watched him bite his ice cream.

Continuing to lick her cone, the girl had to wonder why he thought it was a good idea to bite it like that. Really, it was cold and hurt one's teeth and the ice cream lasted longer when you licked it, didn't it? So biting just seemed silly. But oh well, what'd she care? It wasn't her teeth so it wasn't her business.

"Pink hair?" Joshua looked interested. Her hair hadn't been pink the last time he'd seen her. "Cool." He commented, before nodding at the toddler. "I don't know many of your age group, really. Well, Lucien, his brother, and a couple others. Do you know Luc?" He asked, curious.

He licked his ice cream, he wasn't going to risk biting it again. It was too cold. He didn't want to get a brain freeze.

The girl thought for a moment before shaking her head. "Nope. Met a girl whose Mommy had a beard, and met a blue boy, and met a girl with pretty wings, and a grey boy with fin things on his head and a tail." she intoned with a nod. That was what she remembered of the people she'd met. Well, okay, she just barely remembered their names. They were on the tip of her tongue, which was presently more interested in her ice cream.
