What sort of machines would a old-world Countess-type have on her estate?

Dumb question I know, but I've been beating my brain for hours with no luck. Anything would help--links, images, lists of ideas. Thanks everyone!

Something I use in my roleplays where I have a castle, and feel free to use this, are spider like robots with end effector attachments for gardening, like, say, a sharpened claw for pruning plants. The abdomen I think would be a tank for water, and one of the claws could fan out to spray water and fertilizer.

Another thing I do that's similar are chandeliers that are capable of descending like spider,s folding out and taking on intruders, a security system.

I would say robot butlers and maids are a must have in the Steamounk world. Also a series of steam driven message tubes ( like those used at banks) running inside the wall, underground, on the ceiling, etc. for cummunications purposes. As for security systems I think that she could have mechanical spiders that fire darts with a poison that would cause them to become unconcious and they could be powered by clockwork. The idea for the use of spiders isn't from Kurisu, I'm arachnophobic and think that there's nothing better to guard against intruders than an army of large clockwork spiders.

**franticly writes down good ideas**

What about machies for helping her run the estate? She has vinyards and ricepaddies and wheat fields and all kinds of things like that. The estate covers a huge space of land between glacier-carved mountains in the east to huge canyons to the salt desert in the west.

I suppose it would be easier if you picked an underlying theme, a style. If you're going with spiders then maybe other arachnids? You could use a type of steam-powered scorpion which would instead of using it's stinger like an output device use it to suck up grapes? The scorpions could be quite large or small and dainty depending on which you prefer. Their body would of course be a storage container. I suppose they could double up as property protectors too. You could try to think along those lines. :]

I think a countess might favor the opulent, such as a large self-playing pipe organ, operated by a gilded and jeweled automaton pianist. Perhaps some sort of trolley or monorail system, the small personal cars designed like private coaches. A simple elevator, in the form of a moving balcony, could be placed between two sweeping staircases as the center point of a large entry hall.

If you need more ideas, I'd take a look at games like the Myst series and Syberia. The games are heavy with puzzles and curious anachronistic machinery. I have found them to make excellent reference materials.
