My friends don't support that I like yaoi, they think it's gross. But their young and innocent so I don't blame them. They should maturemore before reading their first yaoi... if that sounded perverted, I'm sorry. If you think I'm a *****, pssh! I'm the same age as my friends.

Some of my friends don't mind it. Some of them enjoy it alot. And the others are just like, "You can enjoy that.... Just not around me."

My mother is an atheist, and so it happened that I didn't go to any sort of religious school. It's funny because, my mom and I used to "slash" guys in movies all the time before I even knew about BL manga or yaoi. When we say Interview with the Vampire (I was in middle school then), we would go "Right, so now this is the part where Lestat rips off Louis's clothes and they have some hot vamp-love, right?" and in most action movies, it tends to be "You know, they should just stop and have a shower together". I won't watch anything pornographic with her (because I'm a bit of a prude and watching that sort of thing with your MOM weirds me out, even though she's a hippie and totally, CRAZILY open-minded) but we've watched some tamer BL and slashable anime together, such as Princess Princess, X/1999, Weib Kruess, +++ Those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
At any rate, on the friends front, it usually goes like this: I'm sitting at the table with a few manga stacked in front of me (yes most of my money goes towards manga of all types), a friend sits down and makes for a book. "What kind of manga is this one?" "Boy Love" "Oh... whats the other one?" "Keroro, its good you'll like it. Funny." "Alright. Cool."
If its a more sensitive friend who doesn't like it, I'll just be like "You don't want to read that one. Keep on trucking buddy." However, I've never been the type to squee and seek out gay boys IRL, I just think they're hotter in art. Besides, ever notice how nothing is really that anatomically correct? I mostly like the sappy emotional side. (Junjo Romantica is an awesome one for this.)

xD My mom thinks it's weird but really doesn't care either way. She's open minded but she still doesn't get how I could 'like' yaoi... or fem-boys for that matter. She thinks they look too much like girls... How contradictory since she also think the female form is more beautiful than the male form xD. I still love her. heart

Well, it's up to your friends but you don't need their support to stand on your own, you just need a strong will, open mind and yourself. So, don't worry about them, I like yaoi and all my friends don't mind. They might come to terms with it, so if you want to show them that book or movie go ahead. Maybe they'll understand you.

RoninKatainaka if it were me, i'd keep trying...but maybe because you're in a catholic school, people don't like it because it "goes against the word of God" or some other random stuff my parents spout off at me. *shrugs shoulders* Hmm, I'm Catholic, as well, and I have to say, Catholics are generally more open to gay relationships than--oh, say--Methodist Christians. At any rate, I've got friends that honestly disapprove and preach against my love of yaoi manga, but I've decided that you really can't force a narrow mind to open up. But in some cases, you are right; if you've never been exposed to yaoi/shonen-ai, you are less likely to understand and approve of it.

When their shirts are off and their pants are riding down, all I can think is, "So where the heck does their crotch start?" Oh, and I'd have to agree with your mom on the Louis and Lestat scene; I could alway envision them together...

^^ I am a huge yaoi fangirl and I just happen to be one of those people that when I like something, the people around me start to like it (a.k.a trend setter) XD So yeah all of my friends have become totally comfortable with yaoi or have absolutely liked it at some point... Sadly two of my friends have totally converted into huge Christians, so they are against what I like... crying XD Oh well, I have a lot of other friends... Also I have a tendency to pic up HARD CORE yaoi when I'm just looking for a cute shonen ai or find a shonen ai when I'm just looking for a regular story XD
Also one of my friends who doesn't like the hard core stuff wanted to read my full pronz yaoi, but I said "Trust me, you don't want to read it." She decided that she wanted to prove me wrong so I handed it over... Fiv min later she hand it back >///< "I'll listen to you next time" XD
