Whenever Richard pulled her in like that, she seemed to melt. It was wonderful, and she hoped that this would always be how she felt about Richard.
"She would have loved you. Adored you, really," she said. "She would have loved the house, and..."
Lorey suddenly looked up at him, as if something awful had just happened.
"Baby, we never got that dog you always wanted."

Lorey smiled once more before burying her face in his shirt. After all he had lost, and after all they had bee through, Lorey just wanted him to be happy. She wanted to give him the son he always wanted, and the fatherhood he had once thought he could never have. He had taken care of her when she had been attacked, had shown her what it was to have fun for a change, had loved her. As her mind traced back all that had happened, Lorey felt content with everything they had accomplished.
"We'll be wonderful. I think we have enough love to go around for them..."

Lorey watched him get all excited over making her breakfast. They'd been together for years, and that feeling they'd had when they got married never went away. There were times when they were both tired and quiet, but the love never faded. If there was only one thing that kept Lorey going throughout her days, after everything she'd been through, knowing she had Richard was it.

"I think baby and I would like... scrambled eggs, with salt and pepper. And rye toast with butter. Along with... some of those little waffles, with jam. Please."
She had never been a fancy person, so comfort foods were her idea of perfection and happiness.
Even then, Lorey marveled over things like feather-down comforters and air conditioning in their house. Always having food, always being safe... and now, having breakfast made for her, Lorey was utterly content.
She gave Richard a kiss filled with love before breaking into one of her smiles that reached right into her eyes.

"Think they'll be alright here? It took some time for us to adjust to the country life, away from all that noise. I mean, it only seemed Damian got used to everything because he couldn't bear to be anywhere else."

Lorey nodded, and let herself zone out a bit as Richard cooked everything she had wanted. She'd gone over it so many times in her head, but the idea of losing Richard still made her want to cry. The idea of having it all be fake made her play some reunion scene in her head, making the feeling even stronger. But after a few moments of thinking to herself, she began gathering fruit and cutting it up for both of them.
"How do you think Nat and Teagan are doing?" she asked.

"I think he'd hide her, too. If just to protect her..." Lorey thought back on the years Damian did the oddest things to protect her. Throwing her out of the Ballroom and then banning her from cleaning jobs was the oddest thing of all, but she had really met Richard that way. If anything, she almost owed everything to Damian, but she wasn't about to go that far in her mind. This life she had now... that was owed to everyone and herself.
"We should try to have everyone in the same room, though, when all this calms down a bit. Then maybe we can share what the baby is!"

Lorey could see the effect it had upon him, right in his eyes. They had a soft look of happiness, like he was looking forward to something. It was amazing how after the years they'd been together, she could read his subtleties. Richard was a difficult man to figure out sometimes, but after everything they had been through, Lorey was sure she could read him like a book.

As she was about to say her thanks for her plate, Lorey winced, and put a hand under her belly.
"You know, I won't miss getting kicked in the crotch," she said in a harsh little whisper as she tried to readjust the baby. It was funny and painful, but Lorey wanted the baby out already.
But she started laughing in her bubbly little way, looking up to Richard to see if he'd start laughing, too.
