"Whoa there" Writ took a step in front of Tepin, "I haven't forgotten about you." He crossed his arms inside of his poncho, and tilted his head, "If you're not here to see me, what are you doing in Downers? You don't look like someone who knows where their going around here. People tend to disappear when they get lost around here" Writ wasn't satisfied with what he got from her. Talking about Vale got him way off track, but now he was back to what he was doing before. This time, he'd try a different approach.
"People tend to disappear in these slums if you know what I mean." It wasn't a threat, it was a matter of fact. There was a reason why the rent was so cheap, and it wasn't just because he seduced the landlady.
"I know my way around here, so how about this" He took a hand out of his poncho and pointed at Tepin, "You tell me what you need here" He pointed at himself, "and I'll help you get to where you need to be."

“Y-You’re not the only thing in Downers!” She was almost embarrassed by this man’s ego now. Did he really think he was the only good reason to be down there, “I’m just looking around!”
It was partially true. She wasn’t ‘just looking’, but she really had no other intentions but to investigate. Still-- there was no reason to let the truth get out. She needed to stay on her toes, even if he was being friendly.
Even Tepin knew that just because someone was being friendly, it didn’t mean that they were your friend.
Still. He wasn’t backing off. And, if he really was good to his word, he could be a good asset to have here.
“Will you leave me alone after you show me?”
The last thing she needed was someone following her home.

"Well, I'm the only thing here you know." It wasn't ego, it was paranoia. Nonetheless the inherent self-centeredness of both was still there. She was pretty paranoid herself, judging from her last request. Writ shrugged and gave her an "Okay". Then he asked, "What do you need?"
He turned his back to her, "If it makes you feel any better, I'll stay in front. Just don't stab my back unless you're planning on making enemies." Writ glanced back at her, "By the way, I don't believe I got your name."

She frowned impatiently at him, her hurried steps causing her hair to flutter behind her.
“That’s not true!” She knew more than just him! She knew about the construction site, and the ice cream place. She also knew that somewhere down here, Valeriu had some strange type of base.
But that was best kept to herself. It wasn’t called a secret base for nothing.
“There’s a construction site—“ She turned, now facing him with a feigned look of dominance, “—Somewhere around here.”
Her face had turned a shade of red partway through her sentence. She had been there before, and yet was unable to find it again.
“That’s where I’m going.”
Still, as she waited for him to catch up (as she fully intended to hold him to his promise), she couldn’t help but look around for some sort of excuse to keep her animosity. It wasn’t like she was giving her real name… But even the thought of giving him her new name made her uncomfortable.
“Isn’t ‘Princess’ good enough, geez?” It was embarrassing to say, but she had hoped that title would stick.
Even if she knew it wouldn’t.
“It’s Tepin.”

"Well, I know one site around here you can try." Writ started to walk, glancing back at Tepin like a taxi driver talking to a customer. He didn't know whether or not he was a cabbie or a guide dog, but the leashed feeling of being used didn't appeal to him. Writ didn't remember a time he made this much of an effort to get someone to trust him.
"Hey, I wouldn't mind calling you 'Princess' but don't you think it'd be kinda creepy for a fully grown adult who's obviously not your dad call you that?" Writ looked up thoughtfully, "Besides, Tepin sounds like a pretty cool name."

“Fine, let’s go there.” Her arms crossed defensively, attempting to put a mental barrier between her and the fellow Godling. A side effect of the motion, of course, was the enhancement of her chest. She frowned down at the cleavage, before releasing her arms to let her hands rest of her hips.
“Varu does it.” Even despite obediently following, she defied him as best she could. “Are you calling him ‘creepy’?”
Well, admittedly, Valeriu was a pretty creepy guy. But that was besides the point. The point was that Writ had insulted her caregiver.
Even if he had complimented her! It wasn’t like she was going to appreciate it, or anything. Geez. She pouted at his back. Boys were just plain stupid.
Stupid boys with their stupid unintentional compliments. He should know that complimenting her was a bad idea! Then it would be harder for her to keep her guard up!

"I'm not saying he is, but Vale's practically your brother the way he watches over you. Hell, first time we met I thought you were siblings." Writ looked around the corner of the block before continuing, "I don't got anything against him, that guy's a pretty cool cat."
He knew this firsthand, of course- having hung out with the guy. Though Writ's standard of "cool" was more or less anyone who can laugh and have fun in the midst of destruction, Vale fit that category pretty well. Writ had a sneaking suspicion that Tepin was in the dark of that side of Vale.

She let the words sink into her brain slowly. Of course he would think that. Even Valeriu thought that. It seemed as though Tepin was the only one not of that mind frame.
“Right, yea, he’s cool.” Cool enough to win her over and then be too cold to love her. Damnit, what was with these boys and being so stupid? She focused on the road ahead, trying to ignore the conversation at hand.
It was too bad that saying anything else would only make it more obvious about her situation. She would have liked to ask him to drop the entire thing.
Then again, wasn’t it Tepin that brought it up?
A small sigh escaped her, and her attention remained glued to the path ahead.

Time for Writ to make his move. He had a grin on his face. Writ was half afraid that Tepin try to throw him off, try to get him to lead her to some mundane place to get him to leave her alone-- but she stayed true to where she was going. Which naturally lead to the question,
"What business do you have in that construction site anyway?" Writ glanced back, "Seems kinda unusual for a girl your age to be wandering around those parts." He shrugged, "Though our 'age' is kinda irrelevant considering our current situation, hell, technically I'm twelve." Writ was rambling, but only to make the question he asked seem less important.

Tepin didn’t have the mental capacity to trick him in that regard-- or rather, if she did, she was at least intelligent enough to know that Writ was probably the only way she’d find the worksite at all.
Regardless, she had fallen for it. Hook, line, and sinker.
“I’ve just got some stuff to do. For Vale.” Her frown did not change, even has her tiny steps hastened forward. “And I gotta go to his job.”
It was true-- she did have stuff to do for Vale’s sake. She was not technically lying while still skirting his questions as well as she possibly could. He was being nice, after all. And even her walls of emotional protection could crumble after long enough.

"Oh." Funny how Vale falls into the typical image of the working mother. Though the fact that his job was in construction was redeemed his masculinity in Writ's eyes. Which was good, Writ was starting to think that he was a bit too involved with caring for his "Princess". They crossed the street and made it to the construction site. All around them was dirt and iron. Gigantic girders of a soon-to-be building towered over everything. From the rumbling machines to the neon-orange clad construction workers, everything stood in the unfinished building's shadow.
Writ took a glance up at the progress before going down to Tepin, "So he's around here somewhere?" It seemed logical enough that she would come down to meet him. Of course, Writ didn't know what was going on exactly.

“No.” Her eyes stayed on the construction site, looking for something--anything-- suspicious. “He’s at home.”
That didn’t mean there was no reason to be here. Even when keeping her secrets, she could just have easily been coming to talk to his boss, or grab some papers.
Then again, there was no need to keep her secrets. The she had fulfilled her end and endured his, which meant that she could have her sweet privacy.
“Now-- You can go.”
Please do.
“I can handle it from here.”

"Whatever." Writ shrugged, "Say hi to Vale for me."
He turned around and started to go. With the information he got, he didn't get as much as he expected. There was bound to be a few gems in the mess, at least some information to trade in to Persy later. Perhaps he should have egged the girl on a little more. Well, whatever.
As for Tepin... Well, she wasn't his type. Too many trust issues. Being the scary stranger when she was a little kid probably didn't help matters. Perhaps she'll warm up to him eventually, but probably as friends.
He wished the other girls in the game would just grow up already.
