Japi watched the display. She could see quite a bit, not to mention tell the difference between her Lori and Tom's Alex. The size difference was quite apparent. But there were also many other things down there.
"So the military has even better ones than this?" she said with a bit of amazement. "I didn't know Gaia had come so far, already." The rest she mumbled. Of course, she'd seen the technology of other worlds, much more advanced than this one, but she was practically under oath not to speak of it.
Lori instinctively brought her tail up to her face as she heard the sound but was somewhat reassured by Alex's words. She eyed his hand as he held it out to her for a moment, then took it. Maybe not all small things were scary after all.

((As a side note, I generally consider Gaia to have equal technology to the real world, with some variations.))
"Oh, yeah," Tom said, suppressing the urge to ask about that somewhat odd comment about advancement...there'd be time later. "Military sonar can kill things that are too close to it..."
Alex was pleased that she'd taken his hand. He smiled at her, and used his other hand to grab on to it, too. He was small and somewhat squishy, and so didn't want to slip loose if she started moving quick. "Okay," he declared cheerfully. "Let's go up to the boat!"

((I figured. Japi's been to lots of worlds though. And IC, it's been several years since her last visit to Gaia.))
Japi was a little alarmed at that idea. "You mean on accident because of it's power? Or do they do it on purpose." She thought about it a moment, she might have gotten the wrong impression to start with.
Lori nodded and held on tightly to his hands. "Okay," she muttered softly as the started up for the boat. She let him lead. She'd prefer for him to break the surface first anyway.

"Uhm...both, I suppose," Tom said after a moment's consideration. "Although, using it as a weapon would be difficult. So, mostly on accident." The little screen was still displaying a bas-relief image of the sea beneath them, although not quite as stark as it had been for a few seconds after they could hear it sound.
Alex was disappointed that he wasn't going to get a free ride up, and did not really hide it (he didn't think to). A second later, though, the disappointment disappeared, as he realized he was holding Lori's hand, and so (while drifting his way toward the surface) took the opportunity to run a finger around on her hand, feeling the way it was textured, and comparing it to his own hand. "Your hand feels cool," he told her.

"That's such a shame," Japi said with sincerity. Her first worry had been correct after all. Poor little fish swimming along doesn't have a clue and his life is suddenly over. Japi looked off the side of the boat. At least this one wouldn't do that kind of damage.
Lori laughed a little, in a more natural way than her usual nervous laughter. "Your hands are squishy," she replied. "Mine are scaly." She paused a moment. "Mommy's hands are soft." She almost closed her eyes but for her usual fear of her surroundings coming and, well, eating her or something.

"Yes, well, they don't do it very much...and they can tell if there's something big nearby before doing that," Tom said. At about that moment, Alex arrived at the surface, and smiled and waved up at the boat. "There you are, Alex!" Tom said cheerfully. "I hope you two had fun down there..."
"Oh ya," Alex replied with a grin, as he pulled Lori's arm toward him so he could wrap both of his around it. "We saw some neat fishies that I hadn't seen, and an octopus, and..." He looked around. "Things! Yeah."
Tom laughed, and moved over to the boat's ladder to help his little one aboard again. "Well," he said amicably to his passenger. "It has been very nice to get to know you a bit. I'm sure I'll see you around the company some time."

"I hope so," Japi nodded. "I should be getting Lori back home anyways."
"See you again sometime?" It was an odd question for Lori to ask and she said it in such a hopeful tone.
Japi smiled at Tom and Alex. She wanted to tell them how big this was, but it was time to go. She waved at them both and jumped into the water. "Ready to go home sweetheart?"
"Uh huh."

"Have a safe swim home," Tom said genially, with a small wave.
Alex, meanwhile, was smiling broadly at Lori from his little perch on the side of the boat (Tom had assembled a little seat for the boy on each side of the cockpit, so he could sit reasonably well and see where the boat was going). "Okay!" he declared to Lori. "See you soon!" He waved happily.
Once the swimming travelers were safely moving again, Tom adjusted his sails and set the boat moving again, onward to adventure! (Or maybe just dinner.)
