Horror Inc. Art Contest - Open to All

Geez, yesterday I was messing with my filters because the flow had gotten weak. The one in my puffer tank was just clogged with snails so I tossed those out into the tank and everything was fine. But the one on my 20g was clogged with sludge. I did my best to clear it out without using tap water. I normally use spring water for my tank changes because we have poor water quality that prime won't fix and it's only 25 cents a gallon anyway.

So anywho, when I finished and turned it back on everything backed into my tank and turned the water a solid brown. I was out of water so I couldn't do a massive tank change. I hauled my filter into the bathroom and scrubbed every inch of it with tap then dried it thoroughly. When I set it back up, it wouldn't turn on. Luckily I had a brand new 30g filter in my closet. I pulled that out, set it up, and it cleared the water in no time.

Lesson: When you do water changes, always rinse your filter media and tubes in your bucket. Not sometimes, always.

What a day.

Damn, that's quite sucky.
But hey, at least no fish were harmed smile

The water where I live is pretty icky too, much too hard. 21 GH and ph 8
That's why I alwas have 6 liter of water lying around.
I do use tap water, I just mix it with a cup of tank water, some softer and once in a while some cycling stuff, and then put it away to age for a week or two.
Personally I find spring water a bit too hard still, but then again, I strive for a low ph.

Yeah, I gotta start keeping water aside for emergencies other than my tank change water. The Spring water I use is very soft, which is good for most purposes but not for my snail tank, so I supplement that one with tums.
