Hi there!
I thought I would start a virtual cookbook here in the guild. I am taking an advanced Japanese cooking class! I find traditional Japanese cooking the most appealing. I roll sushi and make Onigiri almost daily. I make my own ramen and press my own noodles. I will occasionally post traditional Japanese recipes. Be sure to check back every now and then to see some of the links to traditional recipes! If you want to know a recipe that I haven't posted or maybe I forgot something ( I am human! ) Feel free to post something! I have made this so even if you have no idea what you are doing you know how to cook tasty Japanese food!
Thnx,
Nopinkz

I thought I would post a recipe for Onigiri! (Rice Balls)
I got my recipe from this site. It is a great recipe and I eat it all the time!

http://www.justhungry.com/2007/01/onigiri_omusubi_revisited_an_e.html

I found that this tecnique is much much easier than holding the sticky rice in your hand! There are three problems with that really.
1: It burns your hand and after you make onigiri it could blister your hands! Ouch!
2: Two words! {Portion Control}. Yes. That's right. Portion Control. When you do it the traditional way you have no way of telling if you got the right amount of rice to filling ratio! You could get it all wrong if you haven't done this (many) times before.
3: It is easier to shape the Onigiri than the traditional way. Now this might be a personal thing but I think it is much much easier to shape!

Comments:
I love Onigiri! It is a great snack and easier to make. My favorite filling is pickled plums or hosin sauce! Most people don't realize how easy it is to make but this recipe proves them wrong. You do have to know how to make sticky rice though. And if you don't make the rice you can really mess up the dish!

Next recipe is Gyoza! Again this is a really good site!

http://www.japan-guide.com/r/e107.html

There are a bunch of things you could put into gyoza! Not just pork or fish!
I use beef in my gyoza. But I guess it just depends on what you like. As an american I do not own a wok. Yes, I know that's just terrible! But I use a thin aluminum pan and turn the heat up. Not that this replaces the fact that I should own a wok, but I am very pleased with how my food turns out. Now it says sake. I never use sake in my cooking! Mainly because I am underage. Sake is optional, I use soy sauce and some rice wine vinegar.

Comments:
Gyoza is really tasty if you cook it right They are very easy to over cook the first couple of times you cook them. Like most cooking, PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT! Unless you have grown up doing these or done them a long time they take a while to do right. If you mess up, DON'T GET DISCOURAGED!

How about some Tempura!? Who dosen't love some tasty tempura?

http://www.japan-guide.com/r/e106.html

The versitility really makes it for me. It is a well known dish and fairly easy to make. It is fairly cheap as well. It's not very expensive to buy the panko coating. I think the most expensive part of the dish is the meat or veggies you use.

Comments:
I love Tempura! But I also like how versitile it is. You can make veggie tempura or sea food tempura. Maybe even mushroom tempura! Of course not everything is good deep fried in panko. Or is it? X3

Who has had some Koroke? Check This Out!

http://www.japan-guide.com/r/e101.html

They are a tasty fried croquettes. Though not an original Japanese dish, it is still a popular dish! Much like tempura, you can put almost anything in them!

Comments:
I made these snack one night for a late night and I discovered that they re-heat very well. Sometimes we al have left overs. But some things aren't as good when you try to eat them the next day. These re-heat excellent. They taste exactly like they do the first time. If you like Tempura, I urge you to try these out! :3

Who dosen't know about Ramen?

http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2042.html

Some people prefer to make their own broth. I love to make my own broth personally. I make my own noodles as well. But others like the instant ramen. I believe that the homemade ramen has thicker noodles and a richer broth. You just have to know what your doing!

Comments:
I personally HATE instant ramen. I always have and I awlays will. Not to be rude but I grew up eating the homemade stuff and I don't think there is much competition!

A tasty recipe called Gyudon! Yummy!

http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2345.html

It's a beef and onion dish served over rice with a sweet and salty flavor. It is a tasty dish that I eat whenever I get the muchies for something tasty! It is also a cheap dish to make. In fact it was one of the first dishes I learned!

Comments:
I love to eat this dish. It's even better when it is cold outside! It is a very cheap and filling dish!
