I've only ever had that once luckily.
I had someone asking me to increase the price on an item though.
I think he was trying to artificially inflate it
Wouldn't it be easier for him to have bought the item and then raise the price himself?
It would if he had the gold to do it, but I can imagine it would be hard to AI really expensive items by yourself unless you're insanely rich.
It's also lower risk if you can get the other people to just increase their price rather than buying it yourself. If you buy out all the lowest priced ones, AI the item, then no one buys, you can lose a lot of gold

I actually had to put a notice in my store saying not to ask me to change my prices because I used to get so many beggars. I still get the occasional one who refuses to read, but they've gone way down in numbers since I added it.
