Tch. Your styles are yours and yours alone. If you feel like wearing something, go for it.

Though if you ask me, I'd just be happy with a wind-up pocketwatch. Then again, that'd be all I have, if I had it.

I think you should try to express your self as much as possible while youre young. Don't let other people's idea's ( even your sister's) put you down. think to your self. "This is me and if you don't like it then you can suck it" She's just going to have to accept you the way your are, I'm sure you would for her. As far as the fact that she doesn't like the way clothing looks on real people... that's the reason WHY they are thought up to begin with, so that REAL PEOPLE can wear them... so that real people can express themselves outwardly, not only inwardly (like drawing).

That's what i have to say about this.

Perhaps there is more to the situation than just her picking on your fashion sense. She seems to think that you are trying too hard to categorize yourself by your wardrobe, based on her attitude towards your wardrobe change.

I believe that the best way to get around someone else's opinions is to completely accept them at face value, take what you can get from them, and throw out the rest.

Make sure you are beefing up your wardrobe for the right reasons, and then you might see a change of attitude in your sister. Or, you might not. Is your motivation for beefing up your wardrobe to express yourself, or are you rushing into it and conforming to the Steampunk "norm?" I don't really know your sister, but I am an older sister myself so I know how we can be, lol.

If she's a good sister, then she'll love you no matter how you dress around her and her friends. She is probably giving you fashion advice because she cares about you and she wants you to look your best.

No, I haven't been obnoxious with my lolita and steampunk (I haven't talked about it much this summer). I think she doesn't want me going out looking weird.

@ DarkMusica: I actually started out just drawing it and looking at steampunk media but eventually my love for steampunk and lolita couldn't be contained to drawing it. I still draw goths too but I just don't feel compelled to wear it myself.

I don't really have steampunk clothing. I wear black jeans and a tshirt all the time. I'm considering building a steampunk costuming outfit, but that takes money.

You can get good stuff cheap from thrift stores I've heard.

first off, don't worry what others thing.

Aww crap, this is like ripping of a bandaid because I don't think she's going to change her mind. My sister just caught me on a lolita community on livejournal. She was all "Don't you dare go loli >: D" Incidently I AM dressed kinda sort of loli. So, yheah, she'll just have to get over her subculture aversions. By the way, I responded with, "Too late! I"m too far gone XD," whilst spinning around in a roller chair. So too bad, she'll get over it eventually.

Or just completely wig her out by going into a lengthy lecture on how ballet flats prove useless and downright dangerous as footwear on a airship of her Majesty's. o_Q

Sorry, I'm not very creative with thread names (part of the reason I never make any). Took forever to come up with this one.

Now don't get me wrong I looove my twin sister. We agree on most other things except whether pineapple cake is tasty. But sometimes her normalness can be annoying. Also I like to wuss out so I can avoid conflict .

So today I'm wearing the steamy ensemble I was going to wear Sunday but forgot. I've gone more subtley steamy before, and by subtle I mean brown outfit as my steampunk wardrobe is very limited. I've been trying to beef it up. So I put on my vest, necklace and brown skirt, and when it gets to the shoes she suggests that I wear gold ballet flats as opposed to boots. What annoys me mostly is myself because rather than say anything I just put on the flats and waltz out the door. I mean it looks okay, but later I tried on the boots and some black socks and those actually look better and much more steampunk. But if I wear the boots she's going to be all OMG that looks odd x_x. When I wore my subtle lolita she was all like "lawlz, trying to get as close to lolita as possible rolleyes " That's why I didn't even tell her I was going for steampunk and she still doesn't know about this guild. She thinks subculture clothes are okay to draw but looks stupid on real people. The way she talks about lolita's I'm really apprehensive about wearing lolita or steampunk.

tl;dr - I let my normie sister talk me into watering down my steampunk outfit to avoid conflict and now I feel like a b00b.

Start making fun of her clothes. Wear what you want.

... Tell her...tell her... Guys think steampunk/lollita dressed girls are cuter, so nyah!

o.o I don't condone such a focus on what one wears though...I swears it... BUT! I find girls dressed as such hella more approachable- what with the fact that I've yet to find any of the such who bore me...which is a major issue with me. Normal women are boring. ^^
