I'm sorry, but I just have to have a moan about this subject.
I think its ridiulous that the game makes you choose between these two characters. Personally I have always gone for Eresh because I like my sorceress types and I love exploring her dungeon, but recently I've started feeling sorry for Euram, and since he plays a big part throughout the first chunk of the story, his redemption should be an important part of the game's ending as well, not an optional thing.
Another reason it pisses me off is because there are plenty of crap characters who could have been swapped for either Eresh or Euram, such as Haleth or one of the dwarves or beavers.
And another thing - Euram can not be used in your party, even though he carries a sword and fights against you with it in Sable? It just doesn't make sense. If he had been a usable character, I'd have definitly tried for him instead of Eresh on one of my replays. On my next playthrough, I might try for Euram, but I feel I'm missing quite a lot by not recruiting Eresh.
For those of you who have used Euram - does he actually get any animated cut scenes when you recruit him, or is it just boring dialog?

Since I lost my copy of V I'm not sure if I'm right but when you recruit Euram there will be no cutscenes, just some dialog to help Euram start on his path of redemption.
I completely agree with you on not making Euram a playable character. I would've definitely used him for my party if he was made playable. Maybe they were rushed by the end of it? Can't really say.
Personally I would rather go for Euram then Eresh, Euram had an interesting story before joining you while Eresh is just recruited because of Jeane. Then again Eresh did have the Pale Gate and Resurrection Rune with her lol..

Vengence of Areashine I hate Euram, so I didn't feel bad when I didn't recruit him. Long live those who carry the Pale Gate Rune! Yea... I just didn't like Euram along with his father... they were so .... bleh. Though I love the town though ^^.

Well I thought Euram was a ponce when I first saw him (obviously we're supposed to think that!)
But over my last replays, I've gotten to like him. His little flourishes and theatrical speeches, he's kind of a piss-take of aristocratic gentlemen that you find in these sorts of stories.
I also like the way they made him look like a weaker Gizel. They are both blond and wear similar clothing, but obviously Gizel is the brooding stud, while Euram is the geek.
And I did like that little pose Euram made with his sword when he challenged the Prince outside of Sable.
