When I was a little girl I had a re-curring dream/nightmare.
In the dream I was wearing a long cotton nightdress and in some of them I was trying to lift a baby out of a window in the cealing of a kitchen, sometimes it was a doll. Although the danger seemed to alternate between rising water and fire, the dream was fairly consistent.
After speaking recently to my Nan about the re-curring dream (My mum's family are quite open when it comes to the "Paranormal" (In fact, my Nan's a palm reader)), she told me about my mum waking up in the grip of a nightmare when she was a child, she was convinced the house was on fire. In a blind panic she got my uncle (Then a baby) and tried to lift him out of one of the high windows in the kitchen.
My Nan was equally as stumped as I was, but we both feel it may have been a memory my mum passed on to me. We all pass on certain things that any scientist will pin on coincidence (Again, this is my mums side, my father's side are very closed minded). For example: All the women on my mum's side of the family have been born with a bite mark on their inner right thigh. Oddly enough when my Great-Grandmother was carrying my Nan, she was bitten by a dog in the same place.

I was just wondering if I was alone in these "strange" happenings, and what you all think of such things.

I've never heard of a person inheriting their parent's memory. On the other hand, I do believe that most, if not all human behaviours and instincts are the sum of our ancestor's experiences, going back to the primitive simians we ascended from. So I suppose what you're proposing is not impossible. It might even be a wide-spread phenomenon, unrecognized because most dismiss or forget it.

It may be possible.
Inherited memories are not as uncommon as people believe. Some are actually mistaken as "past lives" until a family member verifies that it was an event that happened to some direct-line family member.
But I'm not familiar with the subject myself

Anyway, I found a site
Hope it may be of some value, even though is seems to be more on scientific speculations and theories. My suggestion is to see if you can find any info from Carl Jung Studies. He is a psychologist who worked with freud for a short time, but his focus was more on dreams. I'm hoping it also includes some research on inherited dreams.

This site is a bit of a lenghty read. But it goes into some minor details about the brain and nerves, and uses the idea that instinct is inherited memories, as well as the mental links of twins and such in it's arguements.

Well, you obtain you aura personality and aura specializations from your parents. So maybe if the memory had some emotional effect on her, her aura had kept that close, maybe as if she had learned something from this tragedy. And then, when she had you, the aura power passed to you, thus also copying the fragment of a memory and making it occur in one of the most relaxed ((but not really meditated)) state of mind and body.
