It was early morning, where breakfast was just starting to be prepared, and the larger majority of the weyr wasnt awake. N'tos didn't normally wake up at this hour, but for some reason, he couldn't fall back asleep.

Asceth who had sensed his rider's predicament had offered a suggestion, Why don't mine go to the lake?. With that suggestion in mind, Notos had swiped a bottle of oil, sweet sand, and a good scrub required to bathe a dragon. He wasn't worried about Asceth's hunger, having fed a majority of yesterday feedig the brown. And Asceth didn't seem to have any complaints either.

The dragon crooned, as he dipped into the shallow end of the lake. N'tos was already pulling back his sleeves and the ends of his jeans, so that they wouldn't become wet. He shivered at the chill of the early morning air, but he enjoyed it! It was so much more refreshing than the scalding heat later in the day, or the heat that accompanied the overcrowded weyrs. Definitely something to look forward to, N'tos reminded himself as he pured a handful of the sand onto Asceth's hide.

"How do you like it?" He called out, while wondering if anyone else was awake at this hour. Very much The brown answered with a low murmur, closing his eyes. Indeed, he was enjoying it!

Kaedrelath often preferred to be bathed in the early mornings, while most of the Weyr was only just beginning to stir. Lucky for the blue, his rider didn't mind. M'zaji was grateful for the quiet, peaceful moments the could enjoy together. They had the lake to themselves, and could talk freely with one another.

Well... had had the lake to themselves. M'zaji had been astride Kaedrelath's neck, stripped down to only his breeches. The bluerider leaned out and reached down with a long-handled brush to roughly scrub a particular spot the his blue insisted was still dirty! No, not quite yet M'zaji. How is it you cannot see the dirt? Its right there; I can see it plainly! Kaedrelath insisted, snorting in slight irritation.

"This spot looks as clean as that one," the rider pointed out harshly, gesturing to a spot Kaedrelath had deemed satisfactory only moments ago. Out of his peripheral vision, the bluerider watched the brown and his rider approach. The petty tiff between rider and dragon was forgotten; much more interesting was the prospect of company! Kaedrelath warbled a friendly greeting to the brown, and M'zaji waved the paddle-brush over his head with a grin. "Morning," he greeted the pair, nodding his head.

N'tos waved back, moving closer to the other male. Company had not been expected, but it was certainly welcome. And apparently, they were here for the same purpose that they were, taking care of their dragon's oral hygiene. It was always fun to be with someone else, rather than by yourself, Notos welcoming the opportunity warmly. Asceth moved as well, eager to interact. Staring at the blue, N'tos couldn't remember neither rider nor dragon. Man, he really needed to acquaint himself with other people in the weyr.

"My name is Notos, and this is Asceth." Notos gestured to himself, and the small brown. "What's yours?" He asked cheerfully, knowing that Asceth could tell him their names if he wanted. But that took out all the fun in greetings, otherwise that there would be no point to it!

Hello. Asceth responded pleasantly, staring up at the larger blue. His eyes whirled in pleasure, partially at the bath, and at the prospect of making new friends.

M'zaji made a mental note that the brownrider seemed slightly surprised that he had company at the Lake. The bluerider knew it was early, but because it was a habit, he didn't find it exceptionally so. The boy is N'tos, and his brown is Asceth, the astute blue dragon quickly came up with the pair's names and supplied them to his rider. M'zaji sent back his thanks to his dragon. "Well met, N'tos and Asceth!" M'zaji called back to the young brownrider and his dragon, Kaedrelath echoing his rider with a friendly rumble.

"We are M'zaji, and this is Kaedrelath," the bluerider replied, gesturing first to himself then reaching down to pat his dragon on the shoulder. Good morning, little one, Kaedrelath greeted his draconic company amiably enough. He warbled cheerfully, shifting his wings. M'zaji went back to work, scrubbing away at Kaedrelath's shoulder with the long-handled brush. "What brings you two out so early?" He queried, glancing down at N'tos.

"I couldn't sleep." N'tos admitted freely, continuing with, "So Asceth thought that time could be better spent on his bath, I think." The last part wasn't really indecisiveness, moreso a humorous joke. In return to the blue's friendliness, Asceth couldn't help but respond to it with some of his own. Morning. I trust your day is well? Asceth applied himself with all the manners that one would have towards their elder. He was still marveling at the largeness of the blue, and was quite small in comparison.

"Come on, Asceth." N'tos said mildly, turning the dragon's attention back towards him. He applied himself to his hind leg first, using a smaller brush than M'zaji. Wiping a wet hand across his forehead, he called out to the rider above him, "How about you? Free time? Habit?" Actually, the latter would be quite probable. As far as Notos had seen, the dragonriders were always up before the candidates. It wasn't that they had to be up either.

You are a dragonrider, also. Asceth responded unexpectedly, reminding N'tos of his recent luck. Shards, he was really going to have to get used to that! But either way, a low chuckle rumbled in his throat.

The bluerider paused in his scrubbing to chuckle at the young brownrider's frank response. N'tos' response seemed more like a jest, so the bluerider felt free to laugh rather than inquire further. Kaedrelath impatiently snorted, and M'zaji took the hint. He leaned back down to scrub his dragon's shoulder, not wanting the soap to dry on his hide. Dried soap was a pain to wash off, not to mention it dried out Kaedrelath's hide. A dragon with a dry hide was NOT a happy dragon!

My day is quite well, thus far, Kaedrelath responded to Asceth amiably, dropping his head down to be closer to eye-level with the young brown. I see your day is going well- a bath is always a pleasurable thing! the blue remarked, and unexpectedly threw his head back to let out a throaty, excited warble. When he returned his head to eye-level with Asceth, Kaedrelath's eyes were a rapidly-whirling mix of happy blue and green.

"Hmm?" M'zaji looked up from washing Kaedrelath, N'tos' question having slipped past him. "OH! Why're we here? Habit, mhmm. I like to wash him early, before it gets too hot, y'know?" the bluerider jerked a thumb towards the sky.

Kaedrelath's happiness was contagious, Asceth's eyes slowly turning to a jade green. He appreciated the thoughtfulness of the older blue, talking on the same size as the weyrling dragon. Indeed, it is. He agreed with a nod, continuing with, We should convince yours and mines to feed and oil us. Then, it would become a better day!

"Ah, makes sense." N'tos followed his gaze towards the sky, and nodded affirmatively. Right now, the rays of line were peeking out of the clouds, warming the day but it was still a bit on the chilly side. Around noon time, there was blistering heat, sometimes reaching the point of scorching. N'tos hadn't paid attention to that though, thoughtfully wondering if he should change his habits also. It would be smart to do so, rather than getting sunburned all the time.

He reached down to scrub Asceth's hide absentmindedly, Asceth interrupting his conversation with the older blue to look back at His. Be caref-- The brown didn't finish his thought, before N'tos approximately slipped on a rock. There was a LARGE splash, and a spray of water as N'tos went down. He lost his footing, becoming drenched in water. It may have been shallow from a standing point, but from a sitting point, now his pants and half his shirt was drenched. "Maaaan. It looks like the dragons aren't the only ones getting a bath today." His expression was a mixture of deflation, sheepishness, and ruefulness.

Kaedrelath rumbled happily at Asceth's suggestion, making little ripples in the water that crawled outwards, away from his body. A bath, an oiling, and feeding- that would be MOST enjoyable! But, I fed just yesterday. Kaedrelath remorsefully informed the young brown. The dragons of the Weyr, being so abundant, were on a rotating feeding schedule. Kaedrelath would be politely asked to refrain from eating for another day, or two. However long he could hold out. But, an oiling will be nice. Coupled with this bath, it will make a much better day!

M'zaji retreated into the comfort of his bond with his blue. He withdrew into their shared mind as he scrubbed and lathered up his dragon, their conversation consisting entirely of feelings rather than words. The sun was beginning to grow hotter, and a light sheen of sweat formed on M'zaji's bared skin.

The large splash created by N'tos slipping on a rock had the bluerider decently startled. He visibly jumped, steadying himself on Kaedrelath with a hand clutching the blue's neckridges. "Whaaa-?" M'zaji mumbled, looking around with confusion etched apparently on his face. "Oh! Are you alright, kid?" He asked the young brownrider, unable to keep himself from laughing. "I'm sure the water felt nice- its starting to get pretty warm out!"

*fingertail - small carp like fish

The little brown looked crestfallen, when the blue informed him that he had already aten. But he brighened up again, as the blue told him that he was still able to enjoy an oiling. I will ask mines too. Asceth nodded, letting out a warble bubbling in happiness.

But N'tos had a bit of a problem now, his predicament leading him to a soaked state. His hair dripped with water droplets from the spray of his splash. He fingered his damp strands, his hand wandering to the back of his neck with a humorous smile.

The question had him lifting a soggy hand up, pretending to inspect himself. "Yeah.... ah!" His answer ended on a sudden sound of surprise, shuddering at something in his shirt. His face darkened into a scowl, one hand reaching into the back of his shirt, fishing around for something. It was obvious what he was looking for, when he emerged with a flopping fish in the palm of his hand. They were called fingertails, weren't they? He released it back into the water, but not without a roll of his eyes. "Why don't you join me?" He asked, he couldn't blame the other rider of laughing.. but at the same time, N'tos didn't want to be the only object of entertainment.

Did you want to take a bath too? Asceth asked of his bonded, slightly quizzical. N'tos didn't deign to answer that, a devilish smile slowly spreading over his features. Without another word, he sent a large splash towards M'zaji with the swipe of his hand. "You could use some cooling down." He teased, intent on not being the only one wet here. Oouh. Both yours and mines will take baths? Asceth asked hopefully of Kaedrelath.

M'zaji was very concerned about N'tos. What if the boy had fallen and landed on a sharp rock, or an angry school of fish? There weren't many fish in the lake, but there were a few aggressive strains. The bluerider frowned, his eyebrows furrowing deeply together as he leaned out over Kaedrelath's shoulder, looking down at the weyrling brownrider. He brightened considerably when N'tos assured him he was fine- and couldn't help but laugh more when the fingertail was removed from within his shirt. "Hey, at least you've got a snack no-" M'zaji was stopped mid-sentence by a sudden, and unexpected, mouthful of water.

The bluerider sputtered, and used his free hand to wipe away the dripping water from his face. "What the-?!" He exclaimed, sorely confused for a moment. Where in Faranth's name had that wave come from? Kaedrelath rumbled in an amused fashion beneath him. It looks like the young one wants to play, the blue observed. M'zaji turned his eyes towards N'tos, his gaze intensely scrutinizing. But he couldn't maintain it, and broke down chuckling. "That's true, kid. It's gettin' hot out," the bluerider pointed out, gesturing with his long-handled brush to the sky. "I can kill two birds with one stone!"

The bluerider slid down from Kaedrelath's shoulder expertly, landing in the water by N'tos. He bent his knees to brace the impact, and shot a grin towards his new friend. "Besides. Kae's feet are always dirty, and muddy- I can clean 'em better from down here!" The blue dragon warbled appreciatively, delicately holding out on of his front hands for his rider. Just, take it easy- M'zaji! M'zaaaaji, you KNOW how ticklish I am! Kaedrelath trilled, his voice squealing and high-pitched. He wriggled his front toes as his rider scrubbed in between them; he nearly rolled away from M'zaji to avoid being tickled. He raised his tail and slapped it down on the water's surface, sending a frothy spray up over the entire bathing party.

Yes, Asceth. We will all take baths today!
